The British were the most powerful military in the world in 1897 when they invaded Benin. They invaded everywhere they wanted, including India and China. Being military weaker than an invader doesn't mean you are not civilised. You're just militarily weaker.

By the way the British burned down Benin city and bombed it to smithereens, and there are only one or two houses existing there today that were there before the invasion, and they are tourist sites today.

Excellent reply!

By the way, so we can still find some of these ancient buildings with Benin architecture?

It's funny how they insult their own ancestors but praise Korean movies like Jumong, where they proudly incorporate some of their own history.

Their buildings were similar to the ones in the picture you shared.

Benin empire was built by the Yorubas.
In fact, they are our cousins. Many of them bear Yoruba names, they even use Oba of Benin.

How can you build for someone else what you don't even possess yourself?

And what were your ancestors and people known for ?

You that your people only became civilized to an extent due to borrowed European culture in 1945.

British looted Bini of its artefacts .

While Jewish merchants nearly harvested your people to extinction into slavery.

Know when to shut up .

When the European came they met the Oyo Empire, Bini Empire, proud kingdoms in the SS and a powerful Islamic theorocratic empire in the north and kingdoms in the middlebelt.

There was nothing worth writing about your people other than the level of barbarity , savagery and cannibalism.

By ancient eyewitnesses. Foreign visitors, British, Dutch etc. The Dutch explorer Olfert Dapper drew that second picture in 1671, and the first was by a British explorer visiting Benin in 1846.

why not say that the Europeans came and saw only one democrats in Africa and that democrats happen to be the great igbos?
You pride yourself with having a king,a man who controls the destiny of millions.
A man who exploits the people under the guise of king, oba, emir or whatever.
It should worry you to think about how numerous the Igbo race is and yet no King,no one invaded them and they invaded no one.
It is supposed to be a case study.

Prince Ohenhen, in 1510 during the reign of Oba Esigie.

The Benin kings often sent their princes to obtain blessings from the Aro priests of Igboland.

Outsiders regarded the Aro theocracy as the Igbo leadership, and approached them for all issues pertaining to Igboland.

Igboland was a loose confederate theocracy.

Funnily enough, many people in China will agree with that statement, particularly the older gen, who recall the tranquil old days before heavy traffic and skyscrapers everywhere you turn.

The Igbo people already knew about the Benin empire and named the city Idu. It's said that Idu is the son of the progenitor present day Aguleri.

Aguleri is the founding place of ndị Ìgbo. In Igbo folklore, we start by saying "akụkọ iduu na ọbá". This is us reminding our kids about our old brother iduu.

Go to Facebook and search for "maazi dibia" to learn about the Igbo people. We do not come from Israel cause we have rich history preceding all the Bible stories.

There's no better way to describe the Igbo bravery than the "Igbo landing" in USA. Go read it up
