Once politicians defect from the party on whose platforms they were elected..there should be a law mandating them to step down from that position. If you feel the party that brought you in is no longer worth it then step down and let the seat be declared vacant. You can contest again using your new party in the now vacant position.
This nonsense has to stop.

Are they even supposed to be loyal to the governor?

Nigeria's brand of democracy is the worst in the world.
dangermouse:
Watching the impunity as it unfolds. How can the 27 law makers be loyal to an ex governor and not the elected governor they are serving under?

It is so gross and undemocratic.

Woke should let Fubara focus on governance as the elected governor of the state. He has had his days and time to let go.

Greed and selfishness is not good.

The 27 defectors have had their seats effectively declared vacant and untill the court says otherwise they cannot participate in any proceedings of the House including impeachment. They were in a hurry to please Wike and created an opportunity for Fubara to having a hold on them. You dont cite issues surrounding the office of mere National Secretary of PDP as ground for defection. For a defection to be valid, it must be an actual factionalization of the national party with two leadership. PDP is currently not factionalized, if they do real case in court, the 27 members have lost their seats.

There's something you ppl are not getting here.
He was handpicked for Wikes interest and not for his own interest. The reason he was handpicked was for him to continue his loyalty which he demonstrated during his tenure as Accountant G of RS.

Did he sacrifice anything before being the governor I don't know but I heard and it's true that Sim lost his 11 yr old son during the heat of the election and his Oga told him ' you are crying for your son, do you know what it takes to be a governor or do you know what being a governor is?'

So Sim will loose such thing and just go like that The blood of that boy will not permit that.

Also how many men here will allow your fellow man to dictate when your wife visits you, 2ho visits you and what you do with your time.

Those saying it's too early. Should Sim have waited till they impeach him before he starts fighting or he should have waited till he die?

Even a child fights an elder when he can't bear it again

Allthelight:
but fubara was also hand picked by wike

Press Statement

Rivers State Assembly: PDP Demands INEC to Conduct Fresh Elections in 27 State Constituencies.
…Insists Defected Rivers Lawmakers Automatically Vacated their Seats

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) demands that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should immediately commence the process of conducting fresh elections into the 27 State Constituencies in Rivers State which have become vacant by reason of the defection of the 27 former State lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The PDP asserts that by defecting from the PDP, the political Party platform on which they were elected into the Rivers State House of Assembly, the seats of the respective 27 former lawmakers have become vacant by virtue of the provision of Section 109 (1) (g) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).

For the avoidance of doubt, Section 109 (1) of the 1999 Constitution provides that “a member of a House of Assembly shall vacate his seat in the House if … (g) being a person whose election to the House of Assembly was sponsored by a political Party, he becomes a member of another political party before the expiration of the period for which that House was elected…”

By reason of the above Constitutional provision and its clear interpretation by the Supreme Court, the 27 defected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have vacated and lost their seats, rights, privileges, recognition and obligations accruable to members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The PDP therefore demands that the Speaker of the Rivers State House Assembly immediately comply with the provision of the Constitution by declaring the seats of the 27 former lawmakers vacant.

In view of the vacancy now exiting in the 27 State Constituencies in Rivers State, the PDP demands that INEC should within the stipulated period under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) conduct fresh election to fill the vacancies.

Our Party cautions that the former lawmakers should stop parading themselves as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly as such would amount to impersonation with serious criminal consequences.

The PDP commends the people of Rivers State for their steadfastness and loyalty to Democracy and Rule of Law especially at this time.

Signed:

Hon. Debo Ologunagba
National Publicity Secretary

If I read some comments, I know we're not ready to make progress.

How can someone support rigging because your candidate won? Or the minority would dominate because they have the power and forgetting that the table might turn someday.

Mr Okocha said the party would do everything possible to protect the 27 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers who defected to the APC.
If I am the president of Nigeria.
I will build a strong judicial umpire with an unbias antecedent nd strong adherence to the rule of law.
If the law says an office gotten on the mandate of a political party is no subject to cross carpenting or malingring.
If an at any point the said occurs the office is declared vacant.
So shall it be.
The rule of law has to be strickly adhered to so people will not want to think they can eat their cake and have it.
The governor should ensure that those 27 law makers loose thier seat as speakers of the rivers state house of assembly.
With a court Oder to get them arrested if they ever think of getting close to the assembly area.
Enough is enough
