Reps To Investigate Exorbitant Charges By POS Operators by GuruboiNaija: 7:14am On Dec 22, 2023
The House of Representatives has resolved to investigate the exorbitant amount charged by Point of Sale (POS) for withdrawal of money.

The resolution to probe the operators followed a motion moved by Mohammed Shehu on Thursday.

Mr Shehu lamented the high charges by the operators.

He stated that some POS owners charge as much as N4,000 to withdraw N10,000.

The lawmaker said POS operators are now literally selling bank notes to customers, noting that the government has the power to regulate the activities of the operators.

“There is a need for the government to utilize its relevant authorities under the Central Bank of Nigeria, Act 2007 to supervise Commercial Banks and advise on financial matters, including regulating Point of Sale operators, this will validate public confidence and address the hardships faced by citizens in Nigeria’s financial transactions,” the motion reads in part.

Following the presentation, the House resolved its Committees on Banking Regulations and, Digital and Electronic Banking should investigate.

They are just trying to divert our attention from their own corruption. When CBN policies make it difficult for the people and POS operators to get cash, whom are you blaming? See ridiculous claims...

APC the worst government ever to rule. 500% inflation of everything, including value of naira. Cash scarcity. They are advertising Palliative to tickle ears of those they made poor, as if it will not instantly disappear under hammer of inflation.... That is if its not a lie. We are in a big mess.go to immigration offices, and see crowd of people leaving. Thank God we are all here together, experiencing it.

Funny fools that lacks the capacity to think or better still fools that are deceiving their fathers and not Nigerians.... instead of investigating the main reason why there's no cash and looking for solution, they are here looking for petty POS operators who also find it difficult to access cash! Thieves

This is just a load of rubbish! The CBN started it by ensuring that the banks don't have enough money to dispense to customers; this in turn encouraged POS operators to be willing to pay for cash; the greedy bankers will in turn make money off the desperate POS operators who will then transfer the burden to innocent people who need cash. They are following Emefailure's footsteps but they are not sharing the blame with him

If this news is actually true, then the reps needs Brain check cos it's obvious they're all mad, how does POS operators excessive charge affect the country now or is the cause for the current inflation? All these while POS have been charging one hundred naira only if not for the recent cash scarcity caused by the useless rep and useless APC. I have millions In my account and needed to withdraw just 50k yesterday at access Bank but was told I could only get 2k and their ATMs hasn't been paying for a while so tell me with all sincerity, how would a POS operator get the 2k and do it for same charges? Definitely they will go sort for cash from fuel stations and super stores of which those ones will take advantage of the situation and extort them in a way of selling the cash to them and u expect them not to hike their charges? Only a foolish Nigerian will put blame on any POS operator at this time, blame it on FG, APC and gullible Nigerians that voted them in after last horrible experience. I have no pity so let's all suffer it. Merry Christmas to you all and see you in 2024 .
