Akoko-edo Are NOT YORUBA by babasolution: 12:45pm On Dec 30, 2023
Akoko-edo is in the extreme northwestern part of Edo state.
Comprises many villages consisting of the okpameri group(which is not a tribe but an alliance).such as ibilo,ekor,ekpesa,lampese,ugbosi- afe,ugboshi-sale,ikiran-ile, imoga,ososo,ekpe,onumu,dangbala,ojah,ikpeshi- atte, somorika, bekuma ,ojirami
The Uneme such as Ekpedo,uneme- OSI,uneme- erhunhun,etc
Igarra(ebira),and
others.

Most of them have histories relating to Benin origins while some of them are aborigines.
Few communities like ibilo, ekpesa, ugboshi etc trace their origins to IFE but it's highly disputed as their language and culture defy this narrative.

The Akoko-edo have some ethnic relationship to some villages in Akoko-ondo and idoani who also trace their origins to Benin, however the Akoko-ondo have become heavily yorubanized most of them however still retain traces of their Benin origins.

The fact that many indigenes of Akoko-edo bare Yoruba names and some of the villages have Yoruba names confuses people to think they are Yorubas, even indigenes themselves.

However the Yoruba naming factor was influenced by the early Yoruba missionaries, and traders, who spread Christianity and education and trade by means of Yoruba communication, this made the zone adopt a Yoruba naming convention and made Yoruba the lingua franca since most of the villages spoke their own unique dialects which were bare mutually intelligible.

This Yoruba influence as died down in present times, however some still retain their Yoruba names, this makes Yorubas mislabel them as Yorubas when they are actually not.

There are Igbiras in akoko edo, yorubas and benin..Why didn't they choose Benin as their lingua franca but instead chose Yoruba language.
I think Yoruba influence is more visible in akoko edo than other tribes.

Yoruba became an influential language there, around the time of the Ibadan invasion there from the 1850s

Does it mean we can call the place a Yorubaland by conquest.

The major influence were not the Ibadan but yoruba missionaries, and British colonialist who promoted the use of Yoruba as lingua franca like they did with Hausa in the north,
Yoruba influence has been watered down over the years however

This was what you said "Yoruba became an influential language there, around the time of the Ibadan invasion there from the 1850s"

Why was Yoruba language not promoted in the south east, benin city etc but only in Akoko edo.

I don't know what you mean by this
Why was Yoruba language not promoted in the south east, benin city etc but only in Akoko edo.

Yoruba missionaries were the main guys in Akoko-edo, not in the southeast or Benin.

Akoko-edo church and education outpost was administered from Ikare-Akoko, which are yorubanized akokos, some of whom have Yoruba origins, missionaries stationed there who were mostly Yorubas were posted to Akoko-edo, likewise teachers ,court clerks and colonial admin staffs, they were the major influence on Akoko-edo, however Yoruba had previously broken into that zone through interactions and trade with Yoruba groups and other Benin and Nupe groups, but the Ibadan invasion increased Yoruba influence and the subsequent Yoruba missionaries further increased Yoruba influence in the zone, but the people were still eventually able to retain their non Yoruba language, customs and traditions.

Anybody can claim to come from anywhere even Swahili,if it does not corroborate their first language, it is scientifically impossible to come from there. In 2024, let us start doing history with a little sense alongside.

It is just like claiming to come from Egypt when you do not have any linguistic affiliation with them

Thier first language is more akin to Bini and other Edoid lect when they are over 200 kilometers away from Bini even though they are next door neighbors to yoruba
