President Bola Tinubu on Monday afternoon signed into law the 2024 Appropriation Bill at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Tinubu signed the N28.7tn budget document earlier approved by the National Assembly hours after he arrived in Abuja from Lagos where he spent the past week holidaying.

The budget is N1.2tn higher than the budget he proposed to a joint session of the National Assembly on November 29, 2023.

Then, the President had pegged the budget deficit for the 2024 fiscal year at N9.18tn.

He stated, “The N9.18tn deficit is lower than the N13.78tn deficit recorded in 2023 which represents 6.11 per cent of GDP.

“The deficit will be financed by new borrowings totalling N7.83tn, N298.49BN from Privatisation Proceeds and N1.05 trillion drawdown on multilateral and bilateral loans secured for specific development projects.”

He also emphasized the need to maintain the January-December implementation cycle saying “Our goal is to ensure that the Appropriation Act comes into effect on January 1, 2024,”

On Friday, December 29, 2023, the Senate increased the 2024 budget by N1.2tn, moving the budget from N27.5tn to N28.7tn.

According to the report submitted by the Appropriation Committee led by Senator Solomon Adeola, aggregate expenditure was pegged at N28,777,404.073.861; statutory transfers at N1,742,786,788,150; recurrent expenditure at N8,768.5330,852; capital expenditure at N9,995,143,298,028 and GDP at 3.88 per cent.

Budget of Tinubulation, I guess.

How does the budget affect the lives of common Nigerians, if not to make the rich richer?

Hope Nigerians will someday somehow get some little value for the time they waste in reading stories about Tinubu and APC.

I don't know if it's a dream I'm dreaming but I thought he has already set up a body that will coordinating the financial activities of this ministries. Because its safe to say our so called ministers and permanent secretary are the real looters.

Recurrent expenditure at N8,768.5330,852; capital expenditure at N9,995,143,298,028 and GDP at 3.88 per cent.

Not bad... compared to what we used to have where recurrent stealing exceeded capital expenditure.

Also, budget coming into effect 1st day of accounting year of the country is a great departure from past norms where economic activity is usually at the low eb in the first quarter because everybody was waiting for the budget.

Implementation is the main thing.

Tinubu and APC don't know what to do. All the promises are scams. N35k was only paid for September . Some FG staff not paid December till date. shocked shocked cool cool cool cool

That 28.7 trillion of the certificate forger and narcotics trafficker's budget is less than the 4.5 trillion GEJ budget if you factor the astronomical decline of the naira since 2015.

Recurrent expenditure figures are really high compared to budgeted figures for capital development

I hope they can maintain the January to December financial year cycle this time around. The AGF should immediately issue a circular to close the capital accounts of all MDAs.

.

True. Imagine a dollar rate of 200, and we budget 28trn.
10trn capital expenditure = a whopping $50bn. Imagine mega infrastructure $50 will build

1. West-east road ($4bn)

2. West-North road ($3.2bn)

3. Calabar-maiduguri(EAST-NE) ($6bn)

3b.Middle belt connecting highway ($7bn)
(I think the middle belt has one of the most disjointed roads, no major 6 lane highways). Good tourist attractions sites the the mambila plateau has no good road connections.

4. Ibadan-osogbo - ilorin-minna(spur connecting Kaduna) -Abuja ($7bn)

4.West-East standard rail ($7bn)

5. East-maidiguri standard dual carriage rail ($8bn)

6. Kano-maidiguri standard rail ($2bn)

7. kano-maidiguri road ($500m, major sections had already been done)

8. Major power infrastructure overhaul(generation, transmission, distribution) ($20bn)

9. Bridges, hydroDam,port, FTZ, airports,Cheap government housing(mortgages) ($10bn)

10. Consumer credit ($5bb)

With private sector participation you'll be spending $150bn annually on capital intensive infrastructure.
Without this I don't see Nigeria going anywhere with all this disjointed budget that can't complete a single meaningful capital project

Thank God it is not literally a budget of Atikuloters.... grin

Budget of a country affects its citizens whether "rich" or "poor" those that usually miss out are those who don't realise or deny this fact. No one is an island to himself... just keep doing the "good" things you are doing and the good of the country will rub off you somehow somehow get your Hope Renewed grin
