Social Media: A Curse Or Blessing To Christianity?

In the Bible days, to get the Gospel of Christ from one nation or part of the world to another, one would have to traverse long distances physically or through other transportation means available at the time to be able to do so.

This could take days, weeks, sometimes months, and possibly years to achieve, that's even if the person is able to survive the dangers and difficulties he faces along the way, for instance, ship wrecks, persecutions, diseases, etc.

However today, someone doesn't have to leave the confines of his building to be able to do so. Even from the comfort of one's living room, someone could be preaching the Gospel to those in an entirely different part of the world.

That's what the internet and social media has afforded today's preachers of the Gospel.

I'm pretty sure that the apostles would love to have had such an opportunity at their disposal. They would have taken it with both hands and exploited it to the fullest with respect to the assignment Jesus gave them to preach His Gospel to all men.

Of course, there's also the negative side that comes with the internet and social media, considering the fact that it's being more or less controlled by the world which in turn is under the devil's control.

However this is not unexpected as Jesus already knew this about the world yet He sent His disciples into the world to preach His Gospel, because He knew that if His disciples follow His instructions and watch and pray, there's nothing the devil or the world can do to stop or deter them regardless of the temptations, trials, persecutions, they brought their way.

Now imagine Jesus' walking on water, raising of Lazarus from the grave, or other miracles Jesus did being streamed or broadcast live on this day and age of the internet and social media, trust me, it will definitely have most views, if not most likes and shares than anything the world has to offer, because nothing of this world could equate that.

If Jesus is yet the most famous person that ever lived by far despite not having these channels at His disposal during His days, how much more if He did?

Jesus said those who believe shall do the works He did and even greater works because He was going to the Father. John 12:14.

That means that Jesus doesn't have to be here Himself to be able to achieve those same results.

He already made provision for His church to be able to replicate the mighty works He did on Earth before He left, so it's up to the up to the church to yield themselves completely to Him as did the early church, so He could use them to showcase the great and mighty works of God for the whole world to see that He alone is the Lord of the earth.

Hence I believe that if properly harnessed, the social media is more than a blessing for the church.

It provides a huge opportunity for the church to carry out it's divine assignment on Earth, to preach the Gospel of Christ to every creature.

God bless.

Take tb Joshua for instance....u see those confessions are all true about tb Joshua,
My mother in-law used to go to that church and now she's has been ordained by tb Joshua, she has her own class room church ....u need to see the evil prophesy shes telling people,
Don't get me wrong, I am not a saint but I know what I see

Social media is never a curse, it's just been abused by youths.

Moreover, Nigerians accept christianity from these white people but rejects sodomy from the same white christians.

Hypocrisy at it's finest

Both, depending on how you CHOOSE to use it. So it still comes back to you and your choice.
Life is all about the choices we make irrespective of the circumstances we find ourselves in.

It is a blessing when used moderately and appropriately, to promote your business and educate oneself. However, the tragedy of life is when grown individuals use it to propagate hatred towards humanity.

If we use it right, it can never be. The problem is in how we use it. It must be used to glorify God always.

The Devil can attack anything and use it against God's children but we can stop him on his tracks by exposing his tricks and staying from sinful activities.

We must stay alert always and use all platforms to glorify God.

Everything we do on social media or anywhere else must be done to the Glory of God:

1Cor.10.31 - Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

It's a function of application. It depends on users. Some of us choose to process what we see. Some embrace whatever they see.

Social media permits a free flow of peer to peer information and religoon thrives on ignorance and secrecy.

Your religion will likely be threatened by social media because the Internet is where religion comes to die.

10 reasons you should be ashamed of your religion and examples of how your delusions effect others.:

1. The Crusades (11th-13th centuries): These were a series of military campaigns initiated by European Christians in response to the expansion of Muslim territories. The Crusades resulted in significant loss of life on both sides, with estimates ranging from hundreds of thousands to millions of casualties.

2. The Spanish Inquisition (15th-19th centuries): The Spanish Inquisition was a period of religious persecution led by the Catholic Church in Spain. It aimed to maintain Catholic orthodoxy and eliminate heresy. The exact number of deaths is difficult to determine, but estimates range from thousands to tens of thousands.

3. The Salem Witch Trials (1692-1693): These trials took place in colonial Massachusetts and involved the execution of several people accused of witchcraft. The trials were driven by religious beliefs and fears, resulting in the deaths of 20 individuals and the imprisonment of many others.

4. The Thirty Years' War (1618-1648): This conflict primarily occurred in Europe and had religious motivations, particularly between Catholics and Protestants. The war led to millions of deaths due to warfare, famine, and disease, with estimates ranging from 4.5 to 8 million casualties.

5. The French Wars of Religion (16th century): These conflicts between Catholics and Protestants in France resulted in widespread violence and loss of life. The wars lasted for several decades and caused an estimated 2-4 million deaths.

6. The Partition of India (1947): The partition of India led to religious tensions between Hindus and Muslims, resulting in widespread violence and the loss of hundreds of thousands of lives. Exact casualty figures vary, but estimates range from 200,000 to 2 million deaths.

7. The Northern Ireland Conflict (1968-1998): This conflict, often referred to as "The Troubles," had religious and political dimensions between Catholics and Protestants. It resulted in thousands of deaths, with estimates ranging from 3,500 to over 3,700 casualties.

8. The Crusades against the Cathars (13th century): These military campaigns were directed against the Cathar heretics in southern France. The exact number of casualties is uncertain, but it's estimated that tens of thousands of Cathars were killed during this period.

9. The Rwandan Genocide (1994): This genocide occurred in Rwanda, primarily between the Hutu and Tutsi ethnic groups. While ethnicity played a significant role, there were also religious aspects involved. The genocide resulted in the deaths of approximately 800,000 people, mostly Tutsis.

10. The Spanish Conquest of the Americas (15th-16th centuries): This expansion by European powers, particularly Spain, led to the colonization and subjugation of indigenous populations in the Americas. The conquest resulted in the deaths of millions of indigenous people due to warfare, forced labor, and diseases brought by the Europeans.

Many more atrocities go on in religious setting even in the 21st century. Such as the raping of children by Catholic priests, and other abusive and toxic behaviour from pastors and other church leaders towards members and workers.

All these are made known through social media and largely the Internet! The recent exposé of TB Joshua comes to mind.

Don't go to church! Don't go to Mosque!

Religions are bad for you and for humanity.

To every good idea, there's always a bad side. Social media was originally designed to be a blessing, but human magnanimity has explored it to discover the other side of it that the original designer never intend.
It is both blessing and curse depending on the user.

All of the above.

Everything in life has advantages and disadvantages.

During COVID-19 worldwide lockdown, it was Social Media that made people not to forget about Christ. Churches broadcasted their services on Facebook and other Social Media platforms.

But today's woke generation especially those from broken homes have also been mocking Christianity on the Social Media. The Christianity practice today is not the same one we were brought up with.

Meanwhile, I am a Muslim who grew up in the Church, married a Christian, give birth to Christian children, but still an unshaken Muslim.

May God bless us all.

Since the proliferation of social media,
all the pastors that used to have tv shows of ludicrous miracles have recorded less and less of such miracles.

Go figure.
