Affairs of Nigeria is presided over by extremely evil and corrupt men and women in connivance with their foreign slave masters . Nothing will change with mere words or plea these people know the solutions just that they don't want the country to be liberated.

From your intonation, you'd rather the 1999 constitution remain than we going back to 1960 or 1963 constitution just to spite some people you love to hate

What business do we have with Aburi?, is Aburi a place in Nigeria?. Anything that's not agreed upon on Nigerian soil is total rubbish. Aburi was between two military men, 1999 constitution is also a military document. 1960 constitution is the people's document, unfortunately, some people carried out a coup, gave way to mllitary regime in Nigeria and threw away the people's constitution. Same people who should be asking Nigerians for forgiveness are still talking about a toilet paper called Aburi.

If something can be done very fast to adopt this 1960 constitution. It will be good for the country. Things are already falling apart.

Of course, at the time, we were not an independent country, we had to go discuss our independence and constitution through people's delegates across the country, not a clash of egos by two military men in nearby Ghana which had nothing to do with the interests of the people. For me, 1963 constitution remains the best.

They can review the 1960 or 1963 constitution.

The 1999 constitution did not come from the people so cannot be accepted by the people
flokii:
They can as well review and update the constitution.. 1960 laws can't and won't work in 2024. The gap is too much and things have changed.

Let them call for a national conference or referendum or whatever and allow ethnic groups make input on changes they want effected in the constitution.

Please nairalanders ,let's stick to the topic and ignore this diversion.

From comments from you Ibos here on this thread , we can see how you are all against any talk of restructuring.

I have been saying it here forever that the last people in Nigeria to agree on restructuring is the Ibo man.

Your position since Ironsi announced decree 34 has been always towards a powerful central government.

Obi kicked against restructuring during his campaign and said it was down to what he said was bad leadership .

You are singling my post out despite me responding to your fellow Ibo who blamed Aburi accord collapse for all our woes.

That post was the major distraction and deflection which I needed to correct and highlight that since 1999 , any talk of even resource control for states has been opposed by your Ibo legislators.

The fact remains that the Ibo will be the last to see Nigeria return to her original constitutional template as your ambitions are to rule and dominate the polity from the centre.

Name just one Ibo man who has called for constitutional amendment back to pre Ironsi . Just one !

Protip: you can't because no Ibo man has ever raised the issue of restructuring .

It is either Biafra or an Ibo presidency.

The only people south of the Nigeria that have consistently stood against resource control has been the Ibos.

Even the VAT ruling secured by Rivers and Lagos was met with silence from your region.

Since 1999, Ibo legislators have consistently stood with northerners to block any discussion on resource control for states with the Niger Delta oil resource agitation under Obasanjo demanding for 25% opposed under the gimmick of third term.

Ibo legislators stood alongside the north over the offshore/onshore dichotomy which was only settled by a supreme court ruling .

From this thread we can all see how you all oppose any talk of restructuring by hiding under senseless excuses after the other.

Your truth is riddled with lies. Yes aburi should be thrown away because it's a military document but begging for forgiveness is d most narcissistic thing a tribalist can say. The coup was a military affair not tribal. There has been many coups and military leadership in naija for 40 years so therefore I guess every tribe of the military HOS should apologize too right? So you mean Akande is the first person that has said we should restructure or go back to the 1960 constitution?

The westerners have been pushing for restructuring since the 1990s infact Tinubu had problems with Obj while he was governor because he was trying to create more LGAs for Lagos. Tinubu is president now, let him do the restructuring he has been fighting others for
epainos:
I agree with Akande; however, the monster we need to first defeat is tribalism because it is the reason they will not want that 1960 constitution. Those people who don't want to embrace this suggestion will go back to their people and say that it is the Yoruba man who wants to use it for the benefit of themselves. As soon as those illiterate Hausa and Fulani hear it, they will not allow it. This is our problem. Remove tribalism and we will be fine. But can we do it? Nope. The best option is that Nigeria should split. Let us return to that 1960 era whereby each region controls its wealth. Let each region start paying its legislatures. See...they won't teach them to make the job non-lucrative anymore. Shikena.

Baba Akande has been consistent with this position. Honesty, 1960 constitution is the only antidote that can restore peace, progress and bring developments back to Nigeria. Each region can develop at their own pace. Each region can have their security outfits without dictating the kind of arms they can possess to fight insecurity. It is the 1960 constitution that can make us bear the name Nigeria with Eastern region being the manufacturing hub of the nation. With Western region being the financial hub of Nigeria while the northern region will be the food baskets of the nation. It will bring out the best in us and reduce wastages as being witnessed today

Its not by force to be together. The two countries of Nigeria and Biafra would have made progress since 1967 as separate countries.

Together, we have only retrogressed
aswani:

Thank you so much for your excellent post, we should all come to Nairaland to learn or disseminate useful information. You have played your part, hopefully others can.

To further your point, Gowon didn't sufficiently arm the midwest despite pleadings by Ejoor because he didn't want to give Ojukwu an excuse to start something because there was effectively a standing army ready for battle on his doorstep.

Of course Ikemba went ahead and invaded anyway and then completely lost the plot in proceeding towards Lagos.

Gowon treated Ojukwu with kid gloves, a quick, strong and effective clamp down would have stopped the war ever happening. I understand why he did it though, he expected Ojukwu to ignore the hawks in the Biafran cabinet spoiling for an unwinnable war.

But was he not amongst the Politicians then,or was he not even a governor?
Why is it that when Politicians have enjoyed their times and rested they now start to tell other NIGERIANS- this is how to go about this!
What were they doing when they were there as leaders at that time?
This is Political deceitfulness that have no remedy!

Re: Throw Away 1999 Constitution, Embrace 1960’s, Bisi Akande Tells NASS by DMerciful(m): 2:39pm On Jan 14
The 1999 Constitution enables useless leaders to be selected. It would be difficult for useless leaders to come through the 1960 Constitution because there's no sharing from the center but contribution from the regions to run the center. A useless regional or state leader cannot generate enough resources to run the state, how much more contributing to run the center. A useless leader will not survive six months

Akande is an example....and if it was a Hausa who said it...the Yoruba man would tell his people the same.

Oga... you are a solid example of tribalism. grin
That Yoruba man is what you saw...this is why I said that tribalism is the root problem of Nigeria. grin You are a perfect example..

The westerners have been pushing for restructuring since the 1990s infact Tinubu had problems with Obj while he was governor because he was trying to create more LGAs for Lagos. Tinubu is president now, let him do the restructuring he has been fighting others for
Who are the westerners? So, are you blind that restructuring is the way out? Is Justice Oputa also a Westerner? Lol. grin I am sure you don't know him...so there is no need to go more into it.

I am not aware of Tinubu wanting more LGAs, but this is the normal tactic of governors. Even this was the same reason everyone demanded more states and IBB gave everyone more. Lol. And this is what killed Ibo. After giving them 6 states, he gave them the SE region and cut off other places they used to control and called the SS. Lol.

Creating more states is not restructuring. Creating more states means you want an income from the central government in Abuja. But restructuring is cutting out Abuja...and each region controls its resources. They are not the same but opposite of each other.

Go to school...go learn. Just don't dabble into topics you don't know and attack people anyhow. You will only injure yourself.

Good luck!
