Well-done to the state government for renovating the stadium.
My own is why did the state government decide to build the stadium directly opposite the national stadium in surulere?
This stadium should have been built in epe, badagry or abulegba to further spread development within the state.
Imagine if Nigeria hosts the nations cup and we have the national stadium and teslim balogun hosting matches. The traffic and congestion in that axis will be mad, sighting of the stadium there was not thought through at all.

The development of the country is not centered on your poverty, if you are hungry get off your lazy ass and work like everyone is doing.
We won't stop developing the nation because you are hungry

Well done, Lagos State.

BTW, imagine the kind of world-class stadia that ordinary Ivory Coast has for AFCON.

Meanwhile, it's rocket science for many states in Nigeria to build a decent stadium and cover the entire spectator perimeter.

And I ask, who made Nigeria the giant of Africa?
Giant in population and economy then as an oil rich country but embezzlement and bad governance is d order of d day

How many seating capacity
All the same it’s a welcome development
Now to look for private clubs that’s can rent the stadium

I think the seating capacity is about 25,000 and I don't understand why some people have a problem with renovating it. My only issue with renovations is that if we had a maintenance culture, we would not be needing wholesale renovation all the time. I guess complete overhaul is another way to siphon money.

I Lived in England, Worked in England, returned to Nigeria, worked for NNPC, and then left for the United States where I am currently working. the only person poor here is you and you are poor in reasoning.

I am not a Fan of building infrastructures, not using them, or letting them deteriorate they renovate it and then let it deteriorate again. the next thing you will hear is the country is borrowing money to pay civil servants after all the looting from this project

Na better question you ask so o... As in, is there any particular reason it was built in that particular location?

If I may ask, is there any particular reason standard stadiums can't be built in universities? I feel they'll be well maintained and also generate revenue for the university

Nigeria is hard to understand. When one sees the stadia paraded by countries like Ivory Coast and Cameroon, one really becomes puzzled as to how simple things have since become impossible in Nigeria.

I don't think there is a single internationally worthy stadium in Nigeria, save to some extent in Abuja and Uyo.

The country is just a dead weight on Africa's progress! Google congo and see the wonderful infrastructure they are building all over the place! Our federal structure has to be the biggest disincentive to our progress ever! Fulanis are using their preponderance in security agencies and judiciary to recolonize the hapless and clueless ethnic nations in the south and middle belt! How is that fulanis rule themselves in their northern sates , rule all of us from Abuja in the federal government and still rule us in our Igbo states via appointment of fulani state police commissioners and DPOs, thru DSS state directors, thruNDLEA,Thru army,etc....! our mumu beva do?

Why are they renovating it, it's Nigeria hosting another nation's cup.

Feed hungry people first

Hungry people should get off their butts, and find something doing......

So we need to be hosting a Nations Cup, before renovating a decaying infrastructure?

some one is stealing millions as we discuss about this here. when they have finished their work or abandon it, they will either leave it to deteriorate till someone comes and renovate it again to steal money.
Better than stealing with nothing to show for it … I have never been against corruption but stealing our money to develop other nations is what I detest

Unless the stadium is used regularly for sporting events, maintenance will be difficult

To those that keep saying that renovations would not have been necessary if it was maintained. They have no idea of what is happening.

The construction of Teslim Balogun Stadium was started in the mid-1980s before it was abandoned. It was resumed in the 2000s, but still using the original design from the 1980s. It was finally completed in 2007. A lot of the facilities and design of the stadium are outdated. What is happening right now is an upgrade to bring it into the modern era.

For example, only the State Box was covered originally (see picture below). Now they are converting it into an all-covered stadium.

There were no hospitality suites. Now hospitality suites are being created.

It had no facade, but now a facade is being put in place.

The flood lights were on poles that were outside the stadium, now they will be on the roof.

Basically it was a 1987 type stadium and it is being converted into a 2024 type stadium.

The pictures below show the way the stadium looked before the renovation.
