The 191k isn't so bad if not for inflation.
That's what happens when we prioritize yam and cassava diagrams(theories) over farms(practicals).
We keep teaching and grading people based on yam diagram accuracy and have forgotten to check farm output.

Nigerian professors are not adding any value to the nation.

The ones at the medical field, ordinary vaccine for malaria, they can't produce yet they're the loudest.

The ones at Mechanical engineering can't even change their car oil without the help of a roadside mechanic.

Na only to sell textbooks, speak big big grammar and rig elections for politicians dem sabi. Nonsense!
You sound like a kid.

Do you know how much and what it takes to research?

Most of our laboratories and research facilities are totally useless.Developed countries pump billions of dollars into research yearly. How do you expect a lecturer with a miserable pay and very poor working conditions to invent anything?Yet these same ones leave our shores and do very well.

If you had studied in Europe or US or even some Asian countries, then you’d realise what you have as universities in Nigeria are useless structures churning out unbaked graduates.

How much value is Nigeria adding to them?!!

Compare the state of learning and research abroad with your country first.

Do you know what research costs?!! Do you know how many millions of Dollars some single research gulp yearly?!!

Do you think it's lecturers abroad that cough up the money used for their successful and even failed research?!!

How much is yearly allocation to Education in Nigeria?!!

You claim they are useless, but graduates they trained go on to excel in so many fields within Nigeria and abroad... A lot of these lecturers Japa and get high positions in schools abroad.

Just come out and talk the personal beef you get with lecturers instead of making misguided utterances.

This is really heartbreaking. This shows you all you need to know about govt's non-challant attitude towards education, how do you pay a lecturer a miserly near 200k as salary, like how?

1. It is really sad that a PhD holder earns less than N200k in this economy. How will he cope?

2. Economic hardship is forcing this diligent lecturer to start a side hustle. Of course, he has to if his family won't suffer. But what that means is that he won't be able to give his ultimate best as a lecturer because his attention will be divided.

3. He is apparently discouraged at the economic prospects of his career path too. Again I don't blame him. He's trying to create alternate source of income.

4. Back to the loan issue, the bank isn't going to give him a business loan. For all we care, it's a startup he's coming with. Otherwise, the bank will have requested for his business records. Which I don't think he has.

5. So the bank will extend to him a personal loan facility based on his salary.

6. Without being sentimental, the bank simply can't give him that amount; for his own sake and for the sake of the bank. Let's do the maths:

5 million at 24% interest = N1,200,000

Meaning he has to pay back N6.2 million over 3 years

Assuming he's paying back equal amount (which will not be the case because banks collect back loans with reducing interest), but for the sake of discussion, let's assume he's paying back equal amounts:

He will be paying back: N172,222 monthly.

If you are a banker, will you give him that loan? Knowing fully well he has to spend on feeding, clothing, transportation etc. And no, the bank does not care about his Academy's success or otherwise. The loan will be given strictly on the feasibility of his repayment capacity based on salary.

7. If he's really interested in this business, my advice will be for him to take a loan of N500,000 or less. And even at that, it's likely he will pay back from his salary and not his business. From the way he talked, it's apparent he knows little about business. He wants to invest 5 million in public speaking in Nigeria. And that means he expects to make at least N8 million back. It's obvious he hasn't done any feasibility studies for that idea. I just wonder, who are his prospective clients?

I'm grateful for his own sake that he was denied the loan. God forbid suicide.

8. On second thoughts, he probably wants to take the loan and JAPA.

On point. I've commented extensively on the shallowness of the educated class in Nigeria. Wasn't it Prof Tam David West who told Nigerians in 2014 "there is nothing like fuel subsidy"?

Majority of Nigerian lawyers don't understand that NOBODY legally owns land in Nigeria.

I could go on and on.

Good Luck to Nigeria.

It is terrible..No sympathy given to the 191 lecturer.. grin

You can't become rich with salary.

On a normal, a PhD holder should know how to create wealth...But in Africa it is targeted for pay rise.. lipsrsealed

A PhD holder in English should have a school and lesson centers scattered in PH. English teachers are needed every now and then.

There are other small small business he can do to earn from profits rather salary.

For someone who has taught for 10years if na business man, 5M will be his detty December doings.

PhD holders when one small boy who learnt plumbing material sales can make more than that in one week.

If the aim is making money why should i go to school to acquire everything while the real aim is money.

Abeg make we leave this matter.

His salary is a little over 100euros! 1 euro is #1455 naira ,100 euros= #145,500.
I recommend he leaves the country. As a PhD holder,he is skilled and would get a job as a lecturer with salary of around £65,000 to £70,000 pounds per annum.

His knowledge would be much appreciated in the Western world. If he waits 8 years according to him to be a professor, his salary of #440,000 is just 300 euros!

Since we all can’t come together and agitate for our own country as rivers men

You want to team up with backward Bayelsa state, you no even mention Akwa Ibom. Bayelsa state is in a serious state of dilapidation.

Funny enough Tinubus propaganda government announced increment in university salaries by 35% to take effect from jan 2023. Up till now it has not been implemented. Same with the audio wage award. But there would be money for private trip to paris.
They have started the noise again with new minimum wage. Noise making government. Who never pay wage award one increase minimum wage... Clowns
Tinubu is just noise and little action. God help Nigerian workers

Tinubu is not your problem ok. blame uni port .
The lecturer categorically stated that other institutions pay better than uniport. Though it’s still poor but better than uniport.
Lecturer complain of poor salary you complain, FG increases school fees you still complain .

Better carry gun and visit Abuja stop Disturbing us . Do you know how much Obi increased igbariam fees too when he was governor? Go and check before you start blaming Tinubu again . I find you guys criticism biased .
