I hear some dumb Economist is asking Nigerians to dump their MTN and Airtel lines and use GLO instead. According to him, that would shore up Naira against the dollar. Dumb eeeeh!

Dumb as he may be, he has 6000 followers hailing him. People who also reason with their a..us. The Dumbo forgot that Nigeria also receive remittances from Diaspora much more than what MTN and Airtel get. And who will employ the millions who are dependent on these two telecoms companies.

He should also ask Nigerians to avoid Toyota vehicles and buy Innoson. Sorry, Innoson is an Igboman, so no need to suggest that. What about we abandon DSTV and watch NTA only or better still stop buying Total, shell, etc oil, stop drinking Guinness drinks, Unilever products. Infact we should stop going abroad for medical treatment.

How about we ban foreign rice, foreign clothes, and infact bring all Nigerians abroad home including the Economist so that we conserve the Dollars.
I forgot self, foreign airlines should also stop coming to Nigeria. We do not need BA, Emirates, Qatar Air, Ethiopian Airlines, etc because they remit their revenue home. Let us start using only Nigeria Airways. O! Oh! Sorry, that one is moribund, what about Buhari's Air Nigeria?

Such iberibeism can only come from unemploed or underemployed morons parading themselves as political influencers or should we say they are AGIP (Any Govt In Power)

Reno is a glorified rabble-rouser who lacks actual substance. So based on his logic, Nigerians with investments in other countries should not repatriate profits back to Nigeria after certain periods. They should simply leave their profits in the overseas countries of investment forever. So investors are now father Christmas? If the Nigerian government makes this their official stance, which foreign investor would be crazy enough to bring their hard earned money to Nigeria?

Furthermore, GLO is not a publicly traded company so they are not obligated to reveal much about their financial structure. How sure is Reno that 100 percent of their revenue stays in Nigeria?

OP too made good his point by pointing out the aspect Omokri didn't spell out for Nigerians.

Many African countries with less exports than Nigeria have a more stable currency than naira even though they import like us.

Naira is losing value because some people are benefiting from it. Stop the corruption there and watch things change for good.

There is something called Capital flight, mtn makes all the money and then repatriate them in dollar to South Africa, while I don't entirely agree with Reno, a lot of people here sound like illiterate and it's so disgusting, this is the same reason a lot of you are are not employable, you know nothing about simple terms like capital flight or inequality in balance of payment.

Millions of Nigerians abroad repatriate over 21 billion dollars, I don't see the countries abroad shouting, mtn repatriate it's profit, some idiots start shouting. Meanwhile they forget that shell, chevron, Mobil, nestle, Unilever, pz, Cadbury, benz, toyota, klm, Emirates, delta Airlines are all foreign companies like mtn. If mtn should be dropped to prop up the naira, then all these multinational, Chinese and Indian companies must also be dropped. Therefore retaliation on Nigerians repatriating their income abroad should be discouraged.

You come my country, make money and send it back to your country, it reach my turn, you say no, lie, lie because you want to prop up naira

You don’t have to address everything you see on the internet because those people already know their target audience for their goals…only apc you will find that kind of reasoning. Actually I marvel at campaigns of not patronising company products situated in Nigeria where probably like 80 or 90 percent of their staff are mostly Nigerians.
If such fold up, ain't we increasing the jumper of unemployed in the country.

What we should preach is for such foreign owned companies to be appropriately taxed.

Likewise to those saying we consume foreign yen yen yen nonsense, they should come out to list 10 to 15 commonly consumed foreign food/items by 90 % of ordinary Nigerians that could warrant such daily negative impact on the Naira.

I wish the OP can remove the word 'dumb' or any insulting word to allow fair contributions to his post.

Efcc raided Dangote office. Then Asiwaju got a call, our busy body, too much grammar Efcc boss backed off. You see I like Asiwaju for one thing, he could be stubborn at times..... that's if there's nothing to lose, but he has something to loose: 2027. So I don't expect him to apply more pressure. Dangote is bigger than Asiwaju. Truth be told, Asiwaju really wants to help but the people behind all these are big and have something to make him carve.

Back to oga Dangote.
Few years ago, Dangote was broke and cash strapped. Western lenders won't talk to him. Buhari was not too ok because rescuing a big rich man comes with unintended consequences... your local currency will go! Dangote handlers sold Emefiele and Buhari a dummy; a Nigerian -Dangote JV. All hogwash. That's for another day though!

Dangote is not off himself, he's tied, like most people who make their money through Deals with Bretton Woods institutions, to agreements he has no option but to follow through.

One of such agreements is ditching the Nigerian crude, with less logistic palaver for American crude with lots of logistics nightmare for a subsaharan country.

But one thing most people, especially the badly educated ones, the political jobbers and those with corn in their back pocket, refused to see is that Dangote is the most dangerous Nigerian alive, not politically or sectarianly but economically. These are my reasons.

1. CBN gov Emefiele & Buhari funded a broke Dangote with our FX reserves when western lenders won't cut him a slack. They even tried to destroyed him with a flimsy bitch in a hotel. Buhari & Emefiele sallied to the rescue. Wrong move. With more than $2 billion dollars cash, they rescued him. $2B for a project that would not impact sufficiently? Common...our leaders are dumb! $2B spread to 5000 smes would make Nigeria give India a hot Chase! Let's assume 50% of the $2B were stolen as usual, $1B in the right hands of local businesses will do a healthy economic revamp!
What should be preferred? $2b for one project that would employ less than 1,000 persons, most of them sourced from India or $2b for 5000 smes with capacity to employ at least 5 directly. Numbers is everything! Well, they foolishly gave him access to our reserves, and Naira took a dip.

2. Dangote, Emefiele and Buhari knew all along that there's no crude oil to give Dangote....80% of crude production is tied to loans already collected, stolen or misapplied... They knew Dangote will have to source from abroad.... this is where it gets really dangerous for the local economy and people. Dangote will buy crude from the US in dollars, and Dangote will refine the crude in Nigeria and sell in Naira. After selling in Naira where will Dangote get USD to buy next batch of crude oil? Sorry bruh.... Dollar is going to 2500ngn Hahaha 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Sense no go kill Bigkoko hahaha 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Asiwaju knows this, that's why he initially authorized a raid on his Lagos office. But Dangote handler's get mouth pass Asiwaju!

Govt & black market people will have to keep at least $5b monthly for Dangote to meet up on his payment in exchange to the naira you guys would bring to buy PMs. sometimes you will be forced to save a useless entity because of how big it is and who has mouth in it! That's Dangote issue!

By his decision to buy crude from US, perish any hope of the naira recovering. Even dumb Buhari know that if you float your currency, you are toast!

Oga, which points did Reno make?

Everyday, governments at different levels are talking about foreign investments ... and today, one busy body man comes to tell you to shun MTN ... laughable!

1) Does Reno know the amount of money FG & States make from MTN?

2) What about the millions of Nigerians employed one way or the other by MTN?

3) What about the 'technology transfer' enabled by MTN in the Nigerian telecom sector?

4) Nigeria would probably have had the worst telecom sector in West Africa if not for MTN. Truth is that, Glo services are poor.
