Poem: Nigeria a failing Nation

A nation with so much natural resources
But squandered by the heartless aristocrats
A nation full of potential
But crippled by the influential.

A nation whose slogan is peace and unity
But characterized by disunity, ethnicity and nepotism
A nation hinging on the labours of heroes past
But all efforts now lie in vain.

A nation born to be the giant of Africa
But is dwarfed by bad leadership
A nation trusted with so much crude oil
But embattled with debts

A nation destined to shine
But has her stars hidden under a bed
A nation born for great things
But is limited by harsh realties.

A nation religious to the core
But her clergies are mainly con men
A nation that should be booming with Agriculture
But has her farms destroyed by herders

A nation with a leadership whose mantra is renewed hope
But has dragged her people to penury, corruption and crimes
A nation called Nigeria
A total disappointment
A failing nation.
