He was the only player in the midfield even though he was poor yesterday. I didn't understand how every single player in the team starts running back towards their 18 yard box everytime the opposition is running at them with the ball. Like what pattern of football was that

Maurinoh's pattern. Pack the bus and get them unawares on counter.

That is what our coach learnt from his mentor. Super Eagles should have taking the fight to them. Immediately the Ivorians saw that SE was jittery and defensive, they increased their attacking pattern. I hate defensive football pattern. It could only work when you are leading with five minutes to go.

sad so na this figure head Osimhen Wan go madrid/arsenal and Co? A so called African best without impact. He better remain in Naples and be scoring his Tap Ins. Whether we like it or not Osimhen is not a world class striker. I don't see the reason for the Osimhen hype. Very average. Even Yak and Julius Aghahowa that never won CAF best were more prolific in front of goal. See that Sebastian haller has been a beast since his Ajax days. He was diagnosed with cancer, recovered, started two games for ivory coast and scored both winning goals. That is the job of a sensible striker. We keep consoling ourselves with Osimhen dey disturb defenders, he sabi put pressure but when he was needed most he was no where to be found. If Osimhen had the balls to play all our penalties rather than Ekong it would add to his tally. Such an unreliable No 9. Iwobi and that chukwueze should never be invited again. Very mediocre set of fools

We were all disappointed but ur rant is insensible.

In all honesty, yesterday match was the worse of all they've played in the tournament.
Not true, they plaid their normal game that has been studied by team prepared to win the cup.
Expired tactics

Our coach is under a contract for some years,
Now that afcon has ended...
What will he be be doing? Just collecting salaries,
Why not go to local leagues and pick good players from the leagues and groom them just like westerhoff ?
We have time to get young players who are eager to struggle for goals than the ones already earning billions that are not ready to die for Nigeria.
Let him not be idle waiting for friendly games and tournaments to come, go to local leagues and start selecting the best , put them together, let them be like families, and see what happens to ur football team

A very good battling midfielder. The Ivoriens were tactical enough to choke up the midfield and give Osimen a capable handler. Game over!
Re: My Player Of The Tournament Is Frank Onyeka by Dsimmer: 1:03pm On Feb 12
If a team midfield could control the play with technique, awareness etc, headless chicken running in the midfield wouldn't be needed much. The midfield failed yesterday, like they failed in the tournament!

That was why Cote d'Ivoire improved with Seri.

Onyeka was supposed to be the holding midfielder since Iwobi isn't one. But Onyeka lacked the awareness, technique and reading to even do any of that. As for Iwobi 🧐..

You made a very wrong choice...
Onyeka is just an average guy. His lack of awareness, lack of reading of the game, imprecise passes, lack of technical abilities with the ball, etc makes him a poor candidate for the midfield job of the national team.
If he improves alot, then he can be a good sub option for that position.

calm!!! Agreed Oshimen needs to be more prolific!there were many unpardonable chances in the competition he should have buried! Chukwueze plays better in his club than for country i dont know if hes played out of position. as for Iwobi he needs to up his game madly! the Eagles need a holding midfielder their ball possession is catastrophic!! how do you give an opposing team over 60% possession??

These boys played rubbish throughout the tournament.

Yesterday's game was particularly shocking...!

Maybe someone forgot to stress the importance of the game to those people, cos they played as though they had nothing to lose.

Cote'divoire players showed real hunger and desire to win that game from the beginning till the end.

Super Eagles didn't even show any sense of urgency or zeal, even while in a losing position.

Cote'divoire never had it that easy through the Knockout stages...! Teams made them sweat for their victories.

Last night, they were in perfect control from start to finish.
