A video showing a large crowd of people chanting "Ebi npalu" (there’s hunger in the community) at the front of the palace of the Emir of Ilọrin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has gone viral on social media, causing alarm and anger among the residents of the city.

The video, which is only 26 seconds long, was purportedly taken recently, amid the economic challenges facing the country. However, some residents have questioned the veracity of the video, noting that it resembles a similar protest that took place in Niger State and other parts of the country a few weeks ago.

One of the residents, Alhaji Oba Daudu, who lives near the palace, told Daily Trust that he did not witness any such protest at the palace. He said he was shocked and confused when he saw the video online, and he rushed home to confirm the situation. He said he found nothing unusual at the palace, and he accused the makers of the video of being "dubious and evil" for creating panic in the polity.

According to Daily Post, the Emir of Ilọrin, who is also the Chairman of Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, has reacted to the video, saying that it was a false and misleading representation of the reality. He said the video was actually from the events leading up to the 2019 general elections in the state, when some political parties staged rallies and demonstrations at the palace.

The Emir, through his spokesman, Mallam Abdulazeez Arowona, called for calm and urged the public to disregard the video. He said the video was aimed at tarnishing the image of the palace and the state, and he advised the people to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
