This minister of power is a very funny man. He knows the problem with the power sector like the back of his hand, which he keeps reciting every opportunity he gets. Too bad he has absolutely no clue as to the solutions, except that cost-effective tariff rubbish he sings about every time . What a shame.

The cause of the problem is that the government does not let the discos charge a cost reflective tarrif. Ever since privatization in 2013.

I mean a private company should be able to set it's prices. It is only in Nigeria that we think government should set their prices ..crazy eh?

This means the discos cannot make a profit that would enable them pay the Gencos adequately

Meaning the gencos owe the gas people 1.3 billion dollars. Gas people are tired of not being paid

The subsidy too is itself not adequate.

I don't see government with a forex reserve of 4 billion paying debts of 1.3 billion plus what happens for tomorrow?

The solution is simple. Allow the discos charge a cost reflective tarrif. Then there would be enough profit to pay for gas and everything else.

Allow the discos charge cost reflective tarrif.

That is how all those African countries with 24 hour power supply do it. Egypt that had power subsides has cut them.

Then increase it, let us see if we can afford it, we would self regulate.

The government should allow the discos to set their prices because at the end they cannot do anything about other costs like the cost of gas.

Buhari faced with low oil prices during his regime ramped up the loan taking

Result, the current problem where debt eats over 90 percent of revenue and forex reserves are at an all time low. And the problem we have now

Buhari also didn't reverse gej's price control regime on the power sector ( and tinubu is still continuing it too) , and even froze prices of power for two years. Leading to three discos being in so much debt they were taken over by their creditors the banks. Another one declared force majeure, and was taken over by government.

Genius indeed.

That's the result when you have incompetent manager. Tinubu is not capable. The earlier Nigerians understand that better for them.

I still find it difficult to believe Nigeria find it difficult to generate electricity for 24/7 use

Let them use the subsidy they are paying now to improve the quality of supply greatly, then Nigerians will be willing to pay a cost-effective what ever. That is the simple solution.

It's a sad irony that despite his own shortcomings, OBJ has been the relatively best president Nigeria has ever produced since perhaps 1979.
Definitely since 1999,Buhari and now Tinubu have shown they both don't have a single atom of capacity on how to govern.
One senile failure handed over to a mentally challenged, senile, drug dealer to finally rule us into oblivion

We went. From about 14hrs a day during the failure Buhari's tenure to absolutely no supplies since the turn of the year. Tinubu is a cancer eating away at the very heart of everything good in Nigeria.

talk about infrastructure deficit, how can we talk about a booming economy when there is no energy amid the high surge in the price of commodities and fuel even ghana has constant power supply. Government needs to take basic amenities like electricity seriously

Those of you still hoping the country will get better, keep hoping grin grin grin The country is dead and gone beyond revival and anyone with brain should start thinking of how to raise money and abandon ship and find somewhere else to call home.
