Nigerdock Restaurants and Canteens

We are representatives of Nigerdock and have been made aware of the recent comments being made on Nairaland.com about the restaurants and canteens at the company’s premises. The great thing about social media is that while some can make certain statements about a topic, the subject and those being targeted have a chance to respond and shed some light about the matter. ‘And wit di comments where dis somebody de make fo our company we no go just lay back and allow dem to talk rubbish.’ We believe in the welfare of all our employees and have taken these recent allegations very seriously.

Nigerdock is a leading indigenous oil and gas services company in Nigeria. We have over 3,000 employees across our industrial operations which span over 100 acres in size and include Nigeria’s largest shipyard and fabrication facilities. There are a number of restaurants and canteens and we can tell you that the comments being made are completely unfounded and outright lies. The restaurant in question is the Shore Club Restaurant within Nigerdock’s housing estate (formerly known as the Kosi Wahala). In recent years the restaurant was completely refurbished with an added bar and lounge and with brand new kitchen equipment, tables, chairs and a new name that fits well with the surroundings as it is located along the Badagry Creek shoreline. The restaurant is for ALL Nigerdock Senior Management staff and clients, and serves both Intercontinental and National dishes.

In recent years we have made major investments into the company and as we have grown larger there have been significant changes. The number of international staff has grown considerably as we try to bring a completely new business into Nigeria which has never been done to this scale before. It is this change in culture to the company that may have given the wrong impression. But the statements made in this forum are far from the truth and harshly unfair especially as Nigerdock has been the champion and the voice of Nigerian Content in the industrial development of our Nation.

Nigerdock has other canteens for the Junior Staff that have also had a recent refurbishment with new equipment and are outsourced to professional catering companies. The cost for eating at the Junior Staff canteens are highly subsidized by the company in order to keep meal costs very affordable and in fact the company is even considering offering free meals there. We do believe there can be improvements and we have plans to upgrade our canteens even further. We also plan to add more restaurants for all our Staff in order to give them further variety of dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Please do visit Nigerdock.com to get a better idea of what we do and understand that Nigerdock is a genuine and highly valuable corporate citizen in Nigeria. We believe in our great Nation and are developing an African symbol of success that we can all be proud of.

Sincerely,
Nigerdock Management

Ok, I found the thread you were referring to https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-795089.0.html

So, Oga NigerDock Management how far? Nairaland wan spoil ya "market" ? No mind dem jare.

But I get one "Qweshion"

So what is junior Staff? Why are you segregating your workers restaurant services in 2011?

You are in the oil Industry, so I bet the human resource and facility services professional you hired are widely travelled and they've observed best practices across the world.

So, when you visit shlumberger or baker Hughes offices outside Nigeria, do you see them segregating restaurant and office cafe into Junior and Senior??

Don't be silly, it is a very Duumb Nigerian practice, your company should set a good example by ending it, it is enough that you pay them different salaries, they should at least eat equally and in the same public/company restaurant. Let them mingle.

I'm calling you out on this because you claim to be a fully Nigerian company, set a good example in the private sector. You should not be promoting the same backward and elitist practice we see in the public service, the private sector should be the home of best practices Messr "Nigerdock management" PR.

One other reason why you need to change this separate junior staff eating space, From the picture you obviously employ a lot of foreign or European workers, I bet most of them are "senior staff" right? I don't have to spell how that looks to you, do I? That is probably the reason why your people are complaining.

I'm sure the foreign "oyinbo" Staff you have in your company eat in the same cafe as "Junior staff" in their home country, so you are not doing your country and yourself any favors by condoning this display of inequality.

Let people mingle and eat equally Oga Nigerdock, if Senior staff don't like it, they can quit or jump inside badagry creek, stop the segregation.

Take care.
