Nigeria has defied all attributes that define a truly functional state. The people have proven incapable to manage the complexities that come with the demanding task of governing a multicultural society.

Now is the time to try a new approach which is to devolve powers to the states to create a scenario of healthy competition among the states for peaceful and harmonious development.

When one's problem can no longer compound or burden off on other's progress, it creates a scenario where people imbibe a more responsible decision-making culture that moves them from being a problem creator to a problem solver in the system.

Nigeria needs to exist as a completely decentralized state for this invaluable capability in its people to be realized.

from the below illustration you posted,a sane mind will understand that Tinubu didn't win.

How please? The East has the least number of registered voters of all regions, while the North and South West have the highest. What should that tell you?

I disagree
Decentralization is a very big problem

Prof is very right

Look at electricity for example
States are not allowed to generate and distribute electricity

This has hampered electricity Development

Very many things need decentralization
Let each region cater to there needs

With small power at the centre
You will see massive Development of Nigeria

But if we continue with the present template
A point will reach the centre cannot hold again

Example look at the economy
It's getting out of hand
Things need to be addressed quickly

Is the absence of decentralisation responsible for the failure of his Ogun state governors and his Abeokuta LGA chairmen to do what they are supposed to do with the billions of federal allocation and IGR received since 1999 plus the loans that they havbe obtained for future generations of unborn children to repay? A lazy man blames his tools always!

For 25 years he has been making noise about corruption but failed to advocate effectively for workers to be employed at his state and local governments to have every Egba child in free primary, vocational and secondary schools.

He is indeed the leader of his failed generation.

He fought vainglorious fights that did not impact his immediate LGA and state in terms of government employing workers to provide common services, facilities and utilities like ordinary water. Something his auntie that was not as educated and widely travcelled as he is worked on successfully way bak.

What an old failure Soyinka is.

The women’s revolt against taxation had been rumbling for more than a decade before the water rate victory.

In 1918, tax policies had been introduced that required women as young as 15, (the age at which they were considered marriageable) including those who were unemployed, to pay three shillings a year as income tax. Men, on the other hand, did not have to pay it until they were 18.

It was said government agents went about raiding homes and stripping girls of their clothes in order to assess their age for the purpose of taxation and, as the work was based on commission, extortion and abuse were rife.

Ransome-Kuti formed the AWU in 1946 to “defend, protect, preserve and promote the social, economic, cultural and political rights and interests of the women in Egbaland”.

Her aims and objectives were outlined in a document in 1947, called The AWU’s Grievances, one of the sub-headings in which was “Stripped Naked”. It contained a list of wrong-doings by the traditional ruler for “misusing his authority” and by the administration for “not providing medical and educational facilities for women”.

A food price control policy had also been introduced by the colonial government during the second world war which, in addition to the tax, further hurt female petty traders. When they could not pay, their goods or produce were often seized by agents working on behalf of the SNA.

After several years of complaints, the women mobilised under the leadership of Ransome-Kuti, and in December 1947, laid siege to the palace of Oba Ademola II, where they chanted war songs day and night, to demand the suspension of the tax.

Ransome-Kuti became known around the country for her activism. She had regular speaking engagements on women’s rights both at home and overseas and toured her region, raising awareness about women’s political and voting rights.

Electricity was decentralised with the 5th amendment to our constitution last year.

https://punchng.com/buhari-signs-amended-constitution-to-allow-states-generate-transmit-electricity/

Buhari signs amended constitution to allow states generate, transmit electricity.

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), has signed into law the constitutional amendment allowing states in the country to licence, generate, transmit, and distribute electricity.

This was made known in a tweet by the presidential media spokesperson, Tolu Ogunlesi, on Friday.

He tweeted, “President #MBuhari has signed 16 constitution amendment bills into law. By this signing, State Houses of Assembly & judiciaries now have constitutionally guaranteed financial independence, while railways have moved from Exclusive Legislative List to the concurrent list.

“Another landmark change: By virtue of the presidential assent, Nigerian states can now generate, transmit and distribute electricity in areas covered by the national grid. (This) wasn’t allowed pre-amendment. This is genuine, realistic restructuring — through the constitution.”

Decentralization is the starting point to solving the myriad of problems facing Nigeria. The current situation where most state governments do nothing to improve the economy of their states because they know that at the end of every month they will go to Abuja and collect money is the main source of corruption and ineptitude in the country today.
If true federalism is adopted by Nigeria, state governors will be more accountable as they will no longer be able to hide under the excuse of putting the blame of the lack of development on the federal govt.
They will find innovative ways to attract investment to there state or risk being left behind.
Until we start practicing true federalism, don’t expect any significant changes.

We need to restructure this nation for faster progress and better unity. True federalism brings about greater development and less dependence on cap in hand beggar mentality of going to Abuja for money.

The days of the Western Region were indeed glorious years even with the battle within. Perhaps we need to redevelop our farm settlements where they still exist and create more ( Oyo and Ekiti seem to be doing that).

Atiku, Tinubu and Kwankwaso shared the votes of you ethno-religious bigots during the presidential election to make Peter Obi win. It was when Yakubu Mahmood saw the sharing trend and understood that Obi had a very wide margin of votes to lead to Obi winning the presidential election, Mahmood ordered for disactivation of INEC's system for electronic transmission of vote results; he resorted to the abandoned manual transmission to make Tinubu winner.

Shut your trap if you can't be civil. You gave over 90% of your votes to your tribes man Obi, yet you're not ethno-religious bigots but others who shared theirs across the 3 leading candidates such that Atiku even won in Osun state and Obi won in Lagos, are the ethno-religious bigots. Just imagine the irony. The mumu Yorubas you deceived into your ethnic Obidient movement have had their eyes opened through your post-electoral rhetoric.
