Their poo will give you problem cos the holes in the net is too small for their poo to penetrate..you could check mine in the pic below.

Yes you're right. I'm currently experiencing that difficulty now. I won't make the same mistake in the next cage I'll construct. Thank You wink

There are so many breeds of Rabbit found in Nigeria. Some of which include The New Zealands white or Black, Chinchillas, Californians, Dutch, Rex, Palominos & Hyla, etc.
You might wonder. Why the Palomino??

I got 2 Palomino does (female rabbits) because I was immediately attracted to its coat. It has a Golden brown or lynx coat that is extremely soft to touch & standout amongst other breeds. They are medium to large sized. rabbits & they are good producers. And so, I picked them & I wondered what breed I'd get as my male rabbit.
Originally, I was interested in getting a new Zealand white Male that'll serve my females but after searching for a while & due to a little impatience on my part I luckily stumbled upon, or should i say i was introduced to the "Hyla" breed.
Many people find it difficult to differentiate between Hyla & New Zealand White rabbits. This is due to a lot of striking similarities between the two. But in reality, there are also a lot of difference such as;
1.The Hyla is bigger in size than New Zealands.
2. The Hyla has a bigger head shape & ears than New Zealands.
3. The Hyla was bread to mature faster and reach table size at a very early age, as early as 2 - 3 months. And as such, they're considered Broiler rabbits.
4. The Hyla may have dark makings on its nose & ears.

After reading about the Hyla rabbits & learning more about it's Characteristics & genetics, I decided I'd purchase 1 as a male. And so, I got a Hyla grower.
I intend on crossing Him with my females when they are Old & matured enough.
Many rabbit farmers are located far away from the area I live in, and so, I am going to be part of the very first amongst the few farmers that exists in this part of Abuja.
Join me as we monitor the growth of my rabbits & the growth of my farm. And when they're old enough to start reproducing, I look forward to getting customers that'll get rabbit from me, on this platform...
I will be updating this thread weekly. Every Mondays...
...

Hyla x palomino.. that's a funny combo .. although they'll go well if You're rearing for meats or pets.. but not quite for breeding purposes..

Hello Family.
It's been a very long while since I updated this page. This is majorly due to issues I experienced due to school, work and the country as a whole I sincerely apologise for my absence. But God has kept us thus far. Even if it is once weekly, I would update this page

So, how has my progress in keeping rabbits been in these past few months of silence? grin well, if you recalled, we started with 2 Female American Palominos & A Male Hyla Max rabbit. Unfortunately I lost the male Hyla Max due to the fact that he was fed with grass that had Fumigation residue. So, that setback prevented me from mating my girls at my planned time. That experience didn't bring me down as I'm proud to announce that we purchased 2 Purebred Newzealand White Males from Imported Parent stock tongue
Pictures will be below grin

Uploading pictures on this platform can be somewhat stressful and uneasy undecided

I don't know if Nairaland has employed a "4 Picture post per day" policy. Because I am not able to upload more.
I apologise for that.

Please just visit my Instagram page above. Follow, like and share grin

Good day Family. Hope we are all. Fine today grin well, its been a long week. Its such a beautiful sight, watching baby bunnies you nurtured from childhood even into adulthood. I'm a proud rabbit lover.
So, our week has been filled with a lot. Got bitten and scratched by some of my bunnies, but oh well, it's all part of the experience. And we added a baby female hybrid giant Chinchilla to our stock. Her dad is a massive Hyla Max & her mum is also a massive Chinchilla. Pictures don't do justice to their size unless they are viewed in person. So, as per Nairaland's new policy, I will only be able to upload 4 images today.

just my own thought tho.
is the iron net you used at the floor of the cage not too spacious? i think the one at the side will be better

Please can you share the names of the leaves you use in feeding them?
I use tridax majorly.

Okay sir grin first of all, the iron net used for the floor isn't too small. Infact, it is supposed to be larger than that ☺️ The one you can see in the picture is ½ inch by ½ wire mesh. Which is sufficient for even baby rabbits. The recommended one which I plan on switching to in order to avoid issues is the 1 inch by ½ inch wire mesh. With that one now, you won't experience much issues.
The net that you saw on the side of my cage in the picture, should & must never be used for the floor of Rabbit cages. It is usually called bokoharam net. The net is not strong enough to support rabbits weight. Particularly when they reach adulthood. And it rusts easily due to their acidic urine. Also rabbit droppings doesn't pass through easily as they grow bigger. And it is also more likely to cause injuries & also sorehocks to your rabbit.

Also, as for the leaves I feed mine, they are many. Yes, Tridax is very very good for Rabbits and they love it it soo much. I'm just going to make a list of things I feed my rabbits in general.
. Their formulated feed (which I formulate myself)
. Tridax
. Cabbages
. African Palm grass
. Bitterleaves (occasionally)
. Pawpaw leaves (occasionally)
. Plantain leaves
. Banana leaves
. Carrot leaves
. Lettuce
. Spinach
. Ewedu leaves (occasionally)
. Water leaf
. Stubborn grass
. Carrots (occasionally)
. Watermelon (occasionally)
. Banana peel
. Plantain peel
. Yam peel
. Sweet potato peel

Etc., there are more but these are just a few.

Also, it is important to properly wash grass/leaves you get, and wilt them for a few hours before you offer it to your rabbits. wink
