Mrs Nkechinyere Mbah, the wife of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has announced that she would sponsor the three children whose mother committed suicide by running into a moving vehicle.

The Enugu First Lady promised to sponsor their daily needs and education.

She announced that the scholarship would be undertaken through her Custos Care Foundation when she paid an unscheduled visit to Ogui Police Station, Enugu, where the children were kept in custody.

It was learnt that the woman, whose identity was yet to be known, who reportedly suffered from depression over the high cost of living.

She left her children at the police station, stripped herself naked and ran into a moving vehicle, which crushed her to death. This left the children who are below 6 without a mother.

The eldest of the children, when asked about their father, said their father had been lost. She could not give any other information about their family, town or residential address.

The First Lady announced sponsorship of the children’s education from nursery school to university level. She also directed the immediate relocation of the children from Ogui Police Station to a home, where the state government would take care of them.

Addressing reporters, Mrs Mbah appealed to people who are depressed to seek help and go for counselling to avoid taking drastic decisions.

She also urged the Commissioner for the Ministry of Children, Gender and Social Development, Mrs Ngozi Enih, to intensify sensitisation and counselling of people, especially depressed persons to help them come out of the situation.

Many Nigerians have been experiencing unprecedented hardship following the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu, which have drastically pushed up the rate of inflation and prices of goods and services.

She is not doing it through state government but through her foundation.

Even after their tenure in government, the foundation will continue with its duties, functions and social obligations, so this was a good move.

Things have gotten so bad that I begin to wonder what the president does with the huge amount of dollars Nigeria generate daily from crude oil sales.

The poverty in the East come be like say e hard pass the one for Borno.

Some people kill their kid to eat while this woman chose to go to heaven rather than fend for her kid.

He gives it to your state governor, who squanders it.

Federal allocation to the states has more than doubled since subsidy removal.

It's not easy been a widow in present day Nigeria but suicide isn't an option, doesn't she have relatives on both her side and her husband side, what's the meaning of her husband was lost? Poor. Journalism, something deeper triggered this level of frustration and depression.

The rate of hunger in Enugu and it's environs is alarming. I live in Enugu and I feel so sad seeing how men and women sleep without eating anything.

Some families sell their Children to enable them eat. Some young Girls go into prostitution for a plate of Indomie. The hunger here is worst

Forget how Nairaland members from the East are hyping their region online daily. I live in Enugu and I tell you this, the hunger here pass the one in any part of this Country. Begers have taking over every part of this state. The price of food stuffs here is 5 times the amount of the same food stuffs in other region.

Transportation is even worst. From Abuja to Asaba is 14k but from Abuja to Onitsha is 25k. Asaba to Onitsha is less that 4 kilometers. Transportation fare in the East is the highest. Come and see as everyone dey trek for Enugu.

so who are the people paying for prostitution services and how much are they paying? Let us start from there.

The first lady has a good heart. It's obvious the deceased family and inlaws abandoned her.
If the first lady had not come in and Nigerians begin pour in millions on the kids, that is when Mr Man that abandoned his wife and might have been hanging around with side chicks will jump into the picture to show appreciation.

It was sad event, this is the wrong time to be in Nigeria. Things are extremely tough and tight for low income earners. It is not easy navigating through this period.

It's sad she had to resort to such sad act before the state could recognize that some destitute need scholarship or any help at all. Now they have given the children scholarship, gone back to their abode to lay in wait for the next mother to commit suicide.

If only there are means or avenues she could have approached for help without having to result to this extreme.

Her children should have been a good reason for her to find a way to survive. Many women are going through hardship but just can't give up because they know their children will suffer more.
