Dating scams are unfortunately a common occurrence online. Here are some warning signs to be aware of:

The person seems too good to be true: They may be incredibly handsome or beautiful, have a successful career, and be very complimentary. However, their compliments may seem over the top and impersonal.

They move the conversation quickly off the dating platform: They may try to get you to switch to texting or emailing them directly. This makes it harder for the dating platform to monitor their activity and take action if necessary.

They claim to be far away: They may say they live in another country, work on an oil rig, or are in the military stationed overseas. This makes it difficult or impossible to meet them in person.

They ask for money: They may come up with a sob story about needing money for a plane ticket, medical emergency, or other urgent expense.

They avoid video calls or in-person meetings: They may always have an excuse for why they can't meet up or video chat, such as a bad internet connection, being too busy with work, or security concerns.

If you notice any of these red flags, it's best to end all communication with the person immediately. You can also report them to the dating platform.

The Earlier warning about dating scams remains crucial. If you are looking to date online, be cautious and prioritize your safety.

Here are some general safety tips:

1. Be wary of individuals who ask for money or personal information quickly.
2. Meet in public places for first dates.
3. Tell a friend or family member where you are going and who you are meeting.
4. Trust your instincts and avoid situations that make you uncomfortable.
