Fact-checking Ochanja Road: The Truth Behind The Viral Video by SReporters: 4:05pm On Mar 26
In the wake of a viral video sparking concerns over the condition of Ochanja Road, our news team embarked on an investigative journey to separate fact from fiction. Following an on-the-spot assessment, we bring you an exclusive report on the actual state of affairs.

Firstly, our findings confirm that the portion of Ochanja Road depicted in the viral video is misleading. The actual area of concern measures less than two feet and has been inaccurately represented in the footage that has been making rounds online.

Further investigation reveals that Ochanja Road is currently a hive of construction activity. Contrary to the claims made in the video, work on the road was in full swing as recently as yesterday, Monday, March 25, 2024. Our team witnessed firsthand the serious commitment of the construction crew to the project.

On the matter of the heavy water logged section, it was established that this was a result of a silted drainage system rather than poor construction. The affected asphalted portion, which was laid just yesterday, had not had sufficient time to cure and stabilize before an unexpected downpour. This temporary setback is not indicative of the overall quality or progress of the roadwork.

It is also worth noting that the stone base of the short affected stretch, as well as the entire length of Ochanja Road, is robust and intact. This dispels any concerns about the underlying stability of the road.

In a twist of misinformation, the creator of the viral video has been found to have included footage of different, unrelated roads that are not undergoing construction, leading to unwarranted panic and confusion among viewers.

Our report also clarifies that the road in question is not among those that have been officially completed and commissioned by the government of Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR. To date, only the Port Harcourt Road and Niger Street Road in Onitsha South Local Government Area have received the governor’s seal of approval, both of which remain in excellent condition.

In conclusion, the story propagated by the viral video is a gross exaggeration, a deliberate distortion crafted by mischief-makers. The citizens and motorists of Onitsha can rest assured that the ongoing construction of Ochanja Road is progressing with due diligence and care, promising improved infrastructure upon its completion.
