shortgun:

The Nigerian Constitution does not contain any provisions for a referendum to be conducted for a region to secede or for the country to be divided.
You shouldn't be telling me this because I know. That's the reason why am asking the people asking for referendum to talk to their lawmakers. Only the lawmakers can make referendum be recognize by the constitution.

Smh. It's obvious that you don't know the history of the two countries.

Lesotho is one abysmally poor landlocked country that almost all the citizens must travel to South Africa before they can work, earn a living or become successful in life.

They have been begging South Africa for years to be part of the Republic of South Africa but South Africa doesn't want such a liability.

What a few people told a news paper outlet is not a reflection of the will of the people. If a referendum was conducted amongst the Basotho people, would majority vote to part of South Africa?

If a Referendum is conducted in the South East, would majority vote for independence or vote to remain in Nigeria?

It's important questions like this thar IPOB wants resolved, but unity beggars and their long failed "one Nigeria" no gree

Simon Ekpa is not the problem of Nigeria.

IPOB has one demand - conduct a referendum in eastern Nigeria and find out if the people want to remain in Nigeria. That request is as simple as ABC. Since we claim that Nigeria is united, why not conduct the referendum?

IPOB has a lot of crazy followers who could be as deadly as Simon Ekpa, if not worse. If you arrest him, another leader will emerge. He will kill a lot of security operatives and the government will declare him wanted.

This is common sense...
Guy, I beg gerrout with this your nonsense fallacious hypocrisy.

They want referendum in Eastern Nigeria, yet they voted overwhelmingly more than 95% for Gringory Obi to become President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria?

Why I don't think this is true. A 3rd country can not tell interpol to detain the citizen of a first country when all they had to do to get him is simply run his details on any Euro database to get him.

Did they not vote 95% overwhelmingly for yaradua?

Did they not vote 95% overwhelmingly for our brother from the Niger Delta Gej ?

They refused your darling daddy Buhari who you supported for 8 locust years & today you are blaming him Buhari for the hopelessness & cluelessness of your messiah Tinubu?

They should not vote those they believe are more competent than the fraudulent certificateless misfit Tinubu because of your useless tribalistic opinion.

No society is an absolute, in every society they must have foolish confused people.

Having a minute composure of 10 foolish people, is different from proudly agitating for an imaginary referendum.

If real igbos wanted a referendum, they would not not have participated in any election, like ipob demanded for.

The mad ipob Miscreants said no election, the real ndigbos said to hell with you Confused riffraff Miscreants, hence they came out & voted overwhelmingly 95% for Gringory Obi for the president of The Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Before Referendum the whole south east as a block can send a Message, Next election nobody should vote and no vote must come out of south east as a whole... we have six geopolitical zone and every politician must come with some mark no matter how small from each zone.... no body from south east must contest for any house of assembly or representative ... then the whole Nigeria will know whats up

The rigid process of constitution amendment makes it impossible for that to happen.
The Constitution only provides that an amendment may be proposed with a two-thirds majority vote in both the Senate and the House of Representatives respectively and subsequently approved by a resolution of the
Houses of Assembly of not less than two-thirds of all the States of the Federation.

Where will the Igbo senators and house of rep members get the required two-third majority to propose that amendment ?

Only a naive myopic minded backward thinking Nigerian will be using Scotland as an example, who is not aware that there is nothing like referendum in the Nigerian constitution.

When Awolowo in the 1960’s said the referendum clause be added to our law, it was still the great Nnamdi Azikiwe & co that rejected it.

So you a few of his tribe descendants today that are confused, should please shut up, polluting the discuss, & stop chasing shadows to hide their failure as menaces to society.

Lo

Under Buhari, there was a constitutional review and it lead to the decentralisation in the power sector and correctional facilities.

Your representatives have not ask for it, you're already giving an excuse. Let them ask for it first and see if the rest of the lawmakers at the federal and state level will agree to referendum in the south east or not.

Simon Ekpa is funding terrorism because he his outside nigeria yet the government did not do anything to held him accountable. When this terrorism grow wild fires we look for whom to lay the blame on. God forbid you could be a victim one day. If the south east wants seccesion let them bring democracy and show us the way it can be done instead of acts of terrorism. If you burn down the region it will take thousands of years to rebuild along with wasting civilian life's and the rest of the world won't slow down or wait for it.

This man.
The Review done was to move power generation from exclusive list to concurrent list, its not the same as changing the constitution completly to divide the country.
South east doesn't have the numerical strength in both houses to propose a referendum...it's a fact.
No region has the required numerical strength to push for constitutional amendments alone.
Perhaps you could push it to your senators, persuading them to give it a try, it might succeed, if you have the numbers as stipulated by the constitution.

At best, next election, go and contest, win then use your office to make such request. As you can see, the rest of Nigeria is not bothered.
Worst case scenario, it will be another tiny Lesotho inside South Africa.

So you are part of those that are creating this fake map of the south east of Nigeria?

Some people do feel a constitutional review is not possible, so they do ask for the constitution to be discarded and a new one should be written.

Your people should talk to your lawmakers instead of always crying about it on social media. Let your lawmakers make the move first.

We can never know, the rest of the lawmakers might agree to a referendum in the south east. A lot of Nigerians like me will fully support a referendum in the south east geopolitical zone.

All your efforts to demoralize the Igbos online has always been futile.

Since 1960, Igbo manufacturers have been silenced politically in Nigeria but somehow you guys want a magic gain of the Naira over the dollar.

You continuously create a small dot at the bottom of the Nigerian map and call it South East while you enlarge the top of the map and call it the north. Don't worry, you will be notified of the real size of south east Nigeria when Biafra is actualized.

Quit the victim mentality. Igbo are stakeholders in Nigeria, it's unpatriotic hate-filled bigoted lots , mostly those from very poor and less privileged family backgrounds, who misrepresent Igbo among other Nigerians.

I have educated these misguided unpatriotic lot that the Igbo ancestors who at Independence signed up to be part of Nigeria turned out to very clever and intelligent lot, far more than you uncouth lot who only know how to insult and cyberbully anyone who holds a contrary opinion to your own. These Nigerian heroes of Igbo extraction at Independence forsaw the disadvantages of the Igbo, they know that the Igbo don't have land and large population like the Yoruba, Hausa and Fulani and that they lack access to the sea but being part of Nigeria is a big blessing and opportunity for them to leverage on these benefits other parts of Nigeria possess and the benefit of that their wise decision still linger till today so much that an Illustrious Nigerian of Igbo extraction is today the Naval Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. But for those our wise Independence leaders, it will not even be possible for landlocked SE region of Nigeria to have a Navy let alone become Chief of Naval Staff.

Your blackmail will not work. Not every Igbo hates Nigeria and at nowhere did I read that Igbo collectively agreed to be out of Nigeria. If it is so, at least Igbo representatives in Nigerian legislative assembly would have moved such motion endorsed by all the Senators and HOR members of SE extraction.

Unpatriotic elements and haters of Nigeria and other Nigerians who claim to be Igbo and spokespersons for the Igbo are impostors and their hate speeches, cyberbullying and criminal blackmail don't represent the Igbo.

You are pushing your hate-filled agenda and you will always lose. Igbo are stakeholders in Nigeria and contributed to building what we call Nigeria today that most of you hate-filled unpatriotic and misguided lot want to destroy because of hate for other Nigerians. But if the patriotic Igbo don't rein in the hate-filled lots among the Igbo and continue to keep quiet, then the rest of Nigeria will still move on las las and not bother at all, it's even a waste of time and resources waging another war. Worst case scenario, it will be a Lesotho in South Africa and life goes on.

Until then, I will defend the interest of every patriotic Nigerian of Igbo extraction.
God bless Nigeria for ever! All the enemies of Nigeria will lose las las. They always lose.
