Nigeria bought less than 20,000 cars last year South African bought 500,000 during the same period

20,000 is not good enough to sustain an industry

Worse still is the fact that over 80% of that less than 20,000 cars are used ( accidented cars no body wants)

All this Jamboree makes no sense.. The focus now should be to grow the GDP per capita of Nigeria to say $10k to $15k once we achieve that the rest is easy

Oga dey calm down ogbeni. The article cleary stated that motorcycles and tricycles are inclusive.

At least we import those massively due to folks hustling with it.

What they do here...is Assembling ...no body dey Manufacture
Nigeria has several vehicle manufacturers including Innoson and Proforce.
I don't know why y'all keep up with this bullshit that those companies aren't vehicle manufacturing companies. No company manufactures vehicles 100%, all of them outsource parts.

Toyota uses engine components from Denso and entertainment system from Bangs and Olufsen
Some Mercedes vehicle engines are manufactured by VK
Audi uses engines from Pune

Nigeria bought 20,000 new cars last year.

How many used cars did Nigeria import?

How many stolen cars end up in Nigeria?

The answer to the above questions will indicate the demand factors in Nigeria.

There is a significant market for commercial vehicles in Nigeria. I will start by setting a strategy to outline the existing assembly plants across the country and then develop a supply chain that can support the assembly plants; this will include the provision of Steel, Polymers and Aluminium, tyres and Windscreen that account for 75% of the manufacturing of a car.

Unfortunately, the current minister of Industry is clueless and cannot drive the revival of the automobile industry in Nigeria. In the 1970 -90s, Nigeria assembled 150,000 vehicles and all those vehicles were consumed by the Nigerian government establishment and local consumers.

I have listed some of the following unused assembly plants in Nigeria.

JAC Motors. 45,000 capacity
VON (Stallion Motors) 25,000
Peugeot(Dangote) 45,000
Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company. -Capacity
NORD Capacity 5000
GIC Motor Companies Ltd,
ANAMMCO
Leyland Busan Motors Ltd.

Nothing like slow and steady here, even in technological advanced countries, their government don't manufacture cars.

Re: Nigeria To Commence Local Vehicle Manufacturing Within 10 Years - Doris Uzoka by wonderiyke(m): 9:15pm On Mar 30
There are companies already manufacturing cars in Nigeria. It appears these so-called cabinet members believe that Nigerians are so dumb that they can continuously "whine" them & nothing will happen. Or, they themselves are so out of touch with reality & they don't even care how it looks on them. Very sick county.
Re: Nigeria To Commence Local Vehicle Manufacturing Within 10 Years - Doris Uzoka by Yankee101: 9:16pm On Mar 30
You’re not serious
You chose a date after your possible tenure
You can set up manufacturing in 12-24 months

Only if Nigeria government will shun tribalism, ethnicity, religion, nepotism, bigotry, Nigeria would have been a new hub of technology not only just in Africa but the whole wide world.
What are u saying for God sake. Where is tribalism and nepotism in all this. Do u want the federal government to give all portfolio for ur ethnic group before they do the right thing. Though I know where u belong or coming from but u can't reap where u did not sow. The people that sow are reaping the fruits of their labour. Go back to ur region and solve the tribal and nepotistic problems happening there before coming online to rant about Nigeria

Are they talking about electric vehicles here?
I think you were hasty in ur response. Vehicle manufacturing is highly power intensive. A country with dilapidated electricity will lag grately in this area.

So he was right afterall.

Otondo...

Thanks for the very nice response. Good evening and good luck.

Also, you know i did not call you otondo, so why should you be so abusive, old chap?

Anyway, you don;t need to use bad language. It only prevents others from seeing any valid point you have to make.
