Correction, he got in office in 1986, not 96. He’s been ruling for the last 38 years. Whenever there’s elections, the opposition party candidates have in the past been put under house arrest. He amended the constitution to raise the presidential retirement age ,by throwing out of parliament members of the opposition party, so that only his party members were left inside. He then claimed the bill had been passed in his favor
