For over two years, the agitation over the exponential rise in the rate of dollar had been a regular subject of debate among political class, elite, academics , artisans, traders and even street boys. For over three weeks now, naira has been very consistent, as it gains heavily against USD. Today, USD plunges to #1100 in the parallel market, but the greediness in the marrows of our people are forcing Nigerians to perpetual suffering. Before the surge, when USD rose to #1100, a bag of cement cost #4600 but today at the same #1100, it cost #8400. The prices of food are so high that a cup of garri in the south west now cost #150, and bag of rice cost 78000 as against #30 and #42000 they were sold when USD rises to the same #1100. Government need to be proactive and think on how to bring the dividends of this naira gain to the doors of poor masses. This gain should not be hijacked by some greedy business men, who claimed the cost of replacement when USD rises, but claimed old stocks when USD fall. Government should embark on price control so that Nigerians can be happy again, price of goods should be fixed by them with due consideration for logistics and other miscellaneous. Food market should be saturated, with each state governor been accountable to his people. In order words, government could create an healthy competition which will force this crooks in business succumbs. Nigeria is not for the rich alone, let the poor breathe.

You mean the dollar thief'nubu met @ #650 that currently sells for #1200 is defined as Naira gaining value? It's important you go back to school.

By the way, you want prices of goods to drop whereas the price of fuel, diesel and gas are yet to drop? You must be sleeping on a moving okada.

Cost of production is very high in Nigeria and diesel is the power house. Until there is reasonable price reduction on the stated items above, don't expect anything from the market to reduce in price. It's simple economics

The government is the problem.
1. Dollar will rise again. All these “wayo” fall in dollar is a lie. Nobody believes it.

2. It would take Atleast 2months before this so-called fall in dollar will start reflecting in the economy. But the sad part is before the we get to the 2months, dollar will fly back to 2k..

3. The damage has been done already. Tinubu is clueless and Nigeria is already too damaged cos of useless policies that were not properly thought out.

You comment show there is no hope within you. If you look at how the CBN as curtailed BDC after chasing away Binance you will know that dollar will never near 1500 again till Tinubu 4 year after that another thing might happen he he does not win reelection but if it does those hoarding dollars beta keep it for 8 years after Tinubu is gone for it to appreciate to 1500 not 1800 ever again no matter the circumstances.

People like you are the problems of Nigeria. When Dangote and Bua representatives were invited, their arguments for the hike in cement price was centered mainly on USD and other raw materials that were sourced abroad. Even though the cost of fuel and other indirect cost of production are important , little or no emphasis were placed on them in the meeting. Moreover, for long as I know, the adjustment in the pump price of diesel, and petrol was done over a year ago and the price was gradually maintained at steady state with adaptable tolerance. The only variable that was difficult to control at that time was the rate at which dollar was increasing, and now that some of the Federal government monetary policies are working, Nigerians should enjoy the dividend. The change in the price of diesel when USD rises to #1100 and a bag of cement cost #4600 is negligible and could not be responsible for almost 80% rise in the price of the same product. By and large, I am sure you are one of the crooks that is benefiting from this short run abnormal profit, which I see as a dubious approach in business. Mathematically, your selling price should be a function of your cost price , and not some dubious assumption, cost of replacement, for a good you bought at #10 but you decided to sell at #120 because of the surge in dollar, and now that USD is fallen the current market price is not acceptable to you. Government should the do needful and liberate Nigerians from this corporate theft you called business. Price of commodities should be controlled by government or they should create healthy competition to checkmate the dubious excesses of people like you, so that life can be bearable a bit for Nigerians that are crying.

If I may ask you, what is the genesis of this problem? If we revert the status quo, do you think prices of goods in the market would remain the same?

They killed the economy with luciferian policies and they haven't even adjusted and you want prices to reduce. Dollar @ 1200 is still very much high. Take it back to 650 and return fuel back to 200 a litre let's find out if the problem would remain same.

Besides, diesel and fuel are equally high and transportation is high too. Where are you expecting price reduction from?

Does price of diesel and gas constitute 85% of production cost? You want to cook food at home, so kerosene or gas takes 80% of the cost. I am not for a political party/tribe. I am for the poor Nigerians. The rise of dollar was gradual and the fall is gradual to. Nigerians felt the heat of the surge gradually and also the dividends should be gradual and conspicuous for everybody to see. USD will not fall for some selfish traders to make abnormal gain believing business is their calling. Government should act, Nigerians have suffered enough.

How many hours did it take for prices to increase after the announcement of subsidy removal?

The fact is, you don't want to acknowledge the problem and whence it came from. You have high transportation cost. It would be added to the cost of goods. Fuel is not cheap it has reflected in the cost of production and transportation. Gas has gone up so expect same increase in commodities dependent on gas.

You can't buy diesel to power your mechanised system and equally pay exorbitant taxes and not add them up to your goods and services.

You got dollar @ the rate of 1200 as against 650 and you think prices would reduce after importation?

Don't worry you will eventually become alright.

Stop using fuel price as an excuse for greed. There have been a balance in fuel price before this sudden surge in price value of goods.
What lead to the surge was exchange rate.
Why it is not reflecting is pure greed.

What balance? That transportation fare increased over 100% is the balance or what exactly?

Before Tinubu, came to power, I do spend less than 15k moving from Rivers State to Kano. The moment Tinubu announced that subsidy was gone, prices were adjusted and now, I'm paying over 30k on transport for same journey.

Besides, you can become a producer of goods too. Start off your own production firm and sell your goods cheaply let's find out how you are faring in the business eco-system.
