Congrats to the Naira...! I pray for more progress in this nation's economy. I wish Jagaban and his team massive success in all their efforts to better the nation. Meanwhile, still waiting for prices of foodstuffs and commodities to follow this positive trend. 1 Like |

predictor1:Tell them. Even the 1 naira to 1 dollar in the 1980’s Nigerians love to boast about was a subsidy of the official market where the black market was 4 naira to the dollar (4 times the official market). Abacha also held the official market at 22 naira throughout his tenure with black market at around 88 naira (again 4 times the official market). Same mistake Zimbabwe made in the history of their currencies. Tinubu and Cardoso on the other hand had the guts to devalue the official market twice. First from 450 to 750, then again from 900 to 1400. 2 Likes |

LegendHero:It is you who is poor at maths You used 28 as the multiplying factor to get x8 for PDP Then you used 216 as multiplying factor to arrive at x6 for APC Why didn't you maintain the 28 as multiplying factor? How did you pass WAEC? You only proved that APC deteriorated naira at a geometric rate of 216/28 compared to PDP's arithmetic rate of 28 That's besides the fact that your N28 at 1999 is a lie |

LegendHero:Must you spew rubbish? Where were you 1999 to know dollar was ₦85-90 to a dollar? PDP kept dollar and pounds relatively stable for 16 years. Pounds was between 180 - 250 in all 16 years. Dollar was between 90 to 150, it was only during the normal election shenanigance from politicians it rose to 200 of which after elections and it was expected return back after beneficiaries of the largesse unloaded their forex loot. How can you in all responsibilty compare 80 to even 200 to $1(PDP) , to 200 to 1300 for goodness sake? Oga, 2000, I got contract from FAAN, of which I imported the products from UK in pounds, the exchange rate was ₦190 to a pound. 1 Like |

Kukutenla: —If PDP took it from 28 to 216, that’s like 7.7x which is approx 8x. Meaning 8fold. —If APC took it from 218 to 1200, that’s like 5.5x, which is approx 6x. It means 6 fold. You should probably use your brain when responding so you can understand post before jumping to talk. By the way, I got my masters in Engineering in USA, maybe you can tell me your qualifications and level of education. Lastly, my argument of 28 was based on the USA official report on their government website that placed official annual average dollar rate to 22 in 1998. Oya show me your own rate in 1999 that said it’s over N80 for official rate. https://1997-2001.state.gov/issues/economic/trade_reports/africa98/nigeria98.html 3 Likes 1 Share

Dollar-Naira Exchange Rate from 1997 to date (Black Market Rate.) 1997 $1 = N84. 58 1998 $1 = N84. 70 1999 $1 = N88-N90 (PDP) 2000 $1 = N105. |
