Oba Of Benin Installed As Chancellor Of NOUN by God1000(m): 12:45pm On Apr 15
The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has been installed as the Chancellor of the 42-year-old, National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN, by the Federal Government.

DAILY POST reports that the Benin monarch was decorated at the 13th Convocation and Investiture Ceremony of the university on Saturday in Abuja by the visitor of the institution President Bola Tinubu, where a total of 22,175 graduates bagged various degrees and merit awards.

President Tinubu, who was represented by the Minister of State for Education, Dr Tanko Sununu, urged the Benin monarch to improve the fortunes of the university towards achieving the core mandate of the 42-year-old institution.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Oba of Benin, Osaigbovo Iguobaro, made available to journalists in Benin City, said the royal father was also conferred with Honoris Causa, Doctor in Public Administration, of the university.

In his acceptance speech, Oba Ewuare II called on the Federal Government to consider robust funding for the university.

The monarch, also called on the government to be cautious about establishing universities with dual roles in ensuring that standards are upheld.

While promising to carry out his responsibility diligently, the new chancellor of the university appealed to the government to include NOUN graduates in the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC scheme by amending the act that established the institution.

The traditional ruler commended the university’s management for its commitment to service, which served as an inspiration to the university, where a total of 22,175 graduates bagged various degrees and merit awards.

Earlier, in his address, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Olufemi Peters, said the convocation marked a milestone for graduands at the event, which he said heralds a new era for those who seek knowledge regardless of their academic background.

In his address, President Bola Tinubu sued for cutting-edge multidisciplinary research that would benefit Nigerian citizens and Nigeria.

Tinubu assured that the Federal Government would continue to promote distance learning, noting that distance learning has been widened by the government to accommodate private sector involvement to create access and promote quality and affordability in the mode of tertiary education.

Please I want the oba to clarify us on this:

Why is Benin Kingdom so uncertain in today's history; with no substantial proves who there predecessors or descendants are.

Today, ask the benin people who there descendants are:

(The 1st day) They will claim their descendants are the yorubas.

(Day 2) They will say it's the Isokos

(Day 3) They will say it's the Ijaw

(Day 4) They will say it's the Igbos and Ikwerres

(Day 5) They will say its the urhobos (after their migration falacy)
People with barely 4 local govt in Edo state, is it not funny?..

Presently, they're raising unequivocal issues and doubts among other confused tribe that are willing to dive into their confusion.

These people are really confused who they are, where they came from and who were their good or bad neighbours.

Today they claim fathering Yoruba, tomorrow Igalla or Ijaw, next Igbo or Ikwerre or Opobo or Urhobos. They seem to be hopeless in determining who they are.

(And they claimed they once had a kingdom, odiegwu).

How can you be a father to communities that are one hundred percent more than you in population, with highly sophisticated different languages, culture, tradition and customs?

See the sizes of Yoruba - Benin, Igbo - Benin, Igalla - Benin. It is that of a Squirrel to an Elephant, and you want a sage to believe that the squirrel is the father and founder of the Elephant. So where is the rationale, the similarity, the closeness, etc.

Congratulations sir. May your tenure bring great tidings to NOUN sir.

It's increasingly clear that it is a lie and failed history revisionists peddled the falsehood that it is a taboo for you and past Obas to leave your palace. They did not know that one day, internet will come and expose them with pictures of past Obas outside their palace and even bowing to greet the Queen of England.

The same reason why small countries like Isreal are more important to the USA than large countries like France and Netherlands...
U can give birth to a child and the child will become greater than you which is the prayer of all responsible fathers...
Why you had to bring up this issue is what I am yet to understand.....

The topic was for his installment as a chancellor...

Your own argument is about history...

Benin was well known all of the world as far back as in 1440
No other tribe comes close to Benin.
Benin was the last tribe to be conquered by British and they were the only tribe to fought the British and refused to join Nigeria initially.
History need to brought back into our curriculum
