Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike from Rivers Judicial Council is on the list of priority nominees sent to the Federal Judicial Council Commission.

The President of the Court of Appeal, Hon. Justice M.B Dongban-Mensem has requested the appointment of 22 new Justices to the Court of Appeal, which include the wife of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike from Rivers Judicial Council is on the list of priority nominees sent to the Federal Judicial Council Commission.

This follows the creation of vacancies by the elevation and retirement of some Justices of the Court of Appeal.

SaharaReporters learnt that the Federal Judicial Service Commission at its 92nd Meeting held on March 27, 2024, considered the Judges nominated by judicial officers of superior courts in Nigeria.

Eighty-nine names were forwarded by the President of the Court of Appeal to the Commission, urging the approval of 22 out of the 89 candidates for onward transmission to the National Judicial Council for consideration and appointment as Justices of the Court of Appeal.

SaharaReporters learnt that members of the Federal Judicial Service Commission have advised the National Judicial Council to nominate the following 22 persons as their priority for appointment as Justice of the Court of Appeal.

Justice Olukayode Ariwoola is the head of both the FJSC and the National Judicial Council.

In 2022, Ariwoola attended a dinner held in his honour in Port Harcourt by the Rivers State Government under then-Governor Nyesom Wike.

Ariwoola backed his kinsman and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for his membership of the G5.

The G5 comprised five aggrieved Peoples Democratic Party governors - Wike, then-Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, then-Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and then-Enugu Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

The aggrieved governor called for fairness in the PDP, insisting that the then-National Chairman of the party, Senator Iyorcha Ayu, must step down to pave the way for someone from the South to succeed him, since the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, hails from the North.

“That is why we should not be scared to have these men of the integrity group. And I am happy that my own governor is among them because he would try to imitate his friend and in-law because we came here to marry for my governor.

“So, Governor Wike will always threaten that he will call back his sister if my governor fails to play ball. That is why you see him following his Excellency (Wike) because my governor is afraid of his wife being recalled,” he had said.

The nominees on the priority list as obtained by SaharaReporters for North-Central are as follows: Hon. Justice Polycarp Tema Kwahar, Benue; Hon. Justice Ruqayat Oremei Ayoola, Kogi; Hon. Why are you guys crying over this? Is this not exactly how Jonathan promoted Mary Odili from High Court to Appeal court and then Supreme Court in quick succession? Did anyone cry then? Was Mary Odili’s quick promotion to the Supreme Court a reward for Peter Odili helping Jonathan to rig the 2011 election?

If that's how bribing is easy, what's stopping others?

1 year allocation of Rivers Oil billions can't be spent in 4years. That's why Wike feels like dying as he dey see pepper for Fubara hand.

The way he bribed every 'supporter' around him during his time to buy their loyalty and tie them down, he is shocked that he is facing shege in their hands..

Just like Dr Odili protected himself with him Wife Justice Mary Odili. Wike is now thinking of doing the same by elevating his wife to Supreme Court Judge. He knows has more enemies even in his village despite all his ruthless bribing..

Na yourself you dey deceive. You probably started discussing politics when Wike became governor.

I have been reading and doing politics since the days of Champion Newspapers of MkO Abiola. I still have a few copies.

Wike is a bribing machine. He bought that slot for his wife.

Go and buy for your wife now, who is stopping you?

You have been reading and doing politics since Abiolas era yet you don't know that his wife has been a judge for over 10 years?

SE got 5, SS got 3, SW got 4

No noise about marginalization here but na CJ taking bribe allegations.. Perhaps the 5 appointed Judges from SE also bribed their way according to your logic
Everything is done by quota.
Before Tinubu entered, the SE had no Judge in the SC.. So three (one from each of Ebonyi, Abia & Imo States) balanced the slot. Every Zone should have at least 3 in the SC.

It is usual for their vacancies to be filled at the Appeal Court level. Every State must have at least two judges at the Appeal Court. Whilst we were at it, we lost two SE Appeal Court Judges (one from Enugu and another from Imo), so the slots are been filled according to the States.

I actually have no issue about SE getting 5 judges, I was only pointing out to the flaws in that guy's narration

There is a slot per zone, there is a minimum amount per zone they are just replacing people from the zone
