since subsidy on kerosene and diesel was removed, has it reduced debt, reduced the burden on the poor, provided investments and jobs? how has it benefitted the poor?

Since you like selling things at a loss, Lexy2014, can you tell me how you will run a business where your customers determine your cost price, instead of you.?

Questioning World Bank Assertions: While the World Bank advocates for cash transfers as a solution to poverty traps, recent research indicates that the conditional cash transfer program initiated by the Nigerian government since 2016 has yielded limited results. This prompts a critical examination of the effectiveness of such programs and raises concerns about their impact on household consumption, financial inclusion, and employment, particularly for women.

Addressing Mismanagement: The suspension of the cash transfer program due to alleged misappropriations underscores the need for robust oversight and accountability mechanisms within government initiatives. Instances of corruption within the program not only undermine its intended purpose but also erode public trust and confidence in social welfare initiatives.

Ensuring Transparency and Efficiency: The revamping of the cash transfer program by the Federal Government is a step in the right direction to combat fraud and improve efficiency. Immediate implementation of direct payments can help mitigate the risk of misappropriation and ensure that funds reach intended beneficiaries without delay or interference.

Exploring Sustainable Solutions: Instead of solely relying on cash transfers, there is a need to explore holistic approaches that address the root causes of poverty and economic instability. This includes investment in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and job creation initiatives that empower individuals and communities to become self-reliant and resilient in the face of economic challenges.

Prioritizing Social Protection: As the government finalizes its reform agenda, it is imperative to prioritize social protection measures that provide a safety net for vulnerable households. This includes scaling up existing programs, improving targeting mechanisms, and enhancing coordination between government agencies and civil society organizations to ensure effective delivery of assistance to those in need.

Enhancing Governance and Accountability: The ongoing investigation into allegations of corruption within the cash transfer program highlights the importance of strengthening governance and accountability frameworks. This involves fostering transparency, integrity, and ethical conduct within government institutions to prevent future instances of fraud and malfeasance.

In conclusion, while cash transfers can be a valuable tool in addressing poverty and inequality, they must be implemented alongside complementary measures that promote sustainable development and inclusive growth. By enhancing transparency, efficiency, and governance, Nigeria can ensure that social welfare initiatives effectively uplift the most vulnerable segments of society and contribute to long-term economic prosperity.

We are a broke country. That is why we are spending 90 billion on such things...because that is what you and most nigerians want. Money shared 'equitably'...not money spent on innovation, industry and in essence making more and more money.

We have been told what to do and it is outlined here

Thomas Friedman...Pass the books , hold the oil

But we can't even afford subsides anymore anyway. That 90bn belongs for education, not travel.

Stop this nonsense about we spending whatever

Itz a few people that do such wastage

A government that is so much about the well-being of it citizenry will not think or attempt to impose unnecessary levies on people in the midst of intense hunger.

Keeping subsides, means more debt, which means more burden for the poor. Remove subsides, and there is a chance of investment and jobs , which benefit...the poor.

IMF are not just spying on us in the interest of world rulers, they are actually supervising our developmental level. Keeping us down and never to rise up by dictating everything to their puppets we call leaders. If IMF and World Bank are willing to see Nigeria civil servants get improved wages, you will see FG agreeing to the Labour Union proposed minimum wage now.
