Nigeria's inflation rate is now at 33.69% as at April 2024 - the highest in 28years since Mar 1996. Since the turn of the new year, the naira, which was floated almost a year ago has witnessed a dramatic depreciation, leaving a devastating mark on organised businesses across the board. The prices of staple foods like beans and maize have increased by 300 to 400 per cent over the past year following the removal of the fuel subsidy and the depreciation of the naira. Inflation is outpacing the ability of families to cope, making essential food items unaffordable. Yet see how they hurriedly granted accent with gusto to a matter that has not national bearing on the sufferings their citizens are undergoing at this point of our national life. The most useless rubberstamp stooges. 109 Likes 8 Shares |

Even the US president can't toil with their national anthem simply because it's his personal desire with zero national interest. Changing the anthem to me is more like a personal matter between Tinubu and the writers of the current anthem. The old anthem was written by Oyibo, while the current one was written by Nigerians. To me, this current anthem is better than the old ones and Tinubu should carry his problem with the anthem to his house in Lagos. 71 Likes 4 Shares |

What again? Which country have you heard is changing national anthem, bikokwanu? Maybe they are tired of singing an anthem that is saying many things they are not planning to do in the next 200 years, so they want to change it to something that can accommodate their corruption 24 Likes 2 Shares |

They didn't change the anthem. They only went back to the original. If you're not the one who disvirgined your wife, you will regret your marriage because she will definitely go back to fvck her ex and you will train his children. How will you suffer to pay the bride price of a woman who was fvcked with just two eggs and indomie? The original anthem is better. Just like women, they're better in their original state. Do not breed with a second woman. Find an original (virgin) woman. 5 Likes 1 Share |

HIGH COST OF LIVING INSECURITY, BANDITRY, KIDNAPPINGS EPILEPTIC POWER SUPPLY TERRIBLE ECONOMY SLOW INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT CORRUPTION NOTHING IS BEING SAID OR DONE TO EFFECTIVELY CHANGE THE NARRATIVE OF THESE PROBLEMS MENTIONED ABOVE. BUT OUR GULLIBLE, NONCHALANT AND FOOLISH LAWMAKERS ARE MORE CONCERNED ABOUT CHANGING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM. THIS NATION IS CURSED WITH BAD LEADERSHIP. being a Nigerian is no longer a flex, it's a disgrace now. other Countries are institutionalizing revolutionary ideas, Nigerian lawmakers are pushing mediocre ideas. who did this to us 6 Likes

To them that is the major problem of Nigeria at the moment. Irresponsible and insensitive leaders. The druglord should have masterminded the replacement of the 1999 constitution to a more people oriented one. True federalism! Maybe Nigerians would have ignored his past crimes. Insensitive leaders. 5 Likes |

The old anthem was jettisoned for some reasons which include: it was composed by the White, L.J Williams and F.Berda; it didn't really have any element of unity among other reasons. The rush in adopting it and neglecting the one composed by Nigerians is what amazes me, despite the fact that we have numerous issues that need urgent attention. Unfortunately, the law makers have not really provided enough evidence to support their move. Nigeria will be better when Nigerians wise up and stop being gullible, and playing die-hard fans to their enemies. 3 Likes 1 Share |

This is one of the defects of democracy In a nutshell, it is not govt of the people by the people but rather govt of the powerful by the powerful. The legislature is not the House of the People but that of vested interests. I've never for once considered the merit of the anthem over the other. But it seems Tinubu has an emotional attachment to the old anthem, probably from his obscure elementary school days and wham, it becomes a national issue when he takes office. Majority of those who make up the population of Nigeria today were born into the present anthem. The old one holds no emotional or sentimental value for them, they can't even identify with it. So making Tinubu's personal problem with the anthem a national one simply makes Nigeria look like France of the LouisXIV era. Lyrically, the present anthem is far better than the old one. Just read the lines word for word. In the first place, the writers of the old anthem were not Nigerians. Yet the first two lines contains words like "we" and "our". This means those lines are lies. Even if the writers could have joined the "We" to hail Nigeria, Nigeria is not "our" native land for them. This means that anthem was a lie. Melodically speaking, it might be better than the present one but, the national anthem is not a party song. It's meant to provoke national fervor not a dance. Most importantly, the old anthem was rejected by the Yoruba sociocultural group right from its beginning, and it was fittingly banished by a Yoruba man as Head of state. So it's an irony that a president that claims to be serving the turn of the Yorubas is looking to bring back something that was majorly rejected by the Yorubas in those days. Whose turn is he really serving? 6 Likes 1 Share |

That the old national anthem was written and composed by the colonialists is very strong and important reason why we should never use it again. 9 Likes 3 Shares |
