What do the house think of the interesting news that our Honorable Speaker in the National House of Representative is a professional beautician or Hairdresser, and also battling with another serious allegation of certificate forgery.
Re: The Honorable Speaker (hairdresser.) by desgiezd(m): 10:49am On Sep 24, 2007
I'll rather wait for the people alledging the certificate forgery issue to come out and prove their case before making any comments.
Re: The Honorable Speaker (hairdresser.) by folem: 1:25pm On Sep 24, 2007
There is supposed to be dignity in labour but some people keep reminding us that the speaker is a hairdresser as if a chicken farmer was not once US President.

In the USA, some states elected  wrestlers and body-builders as their governors.

Without OBJ's monetisation policy we would have also been talking about N3-5 Million furniture allowance for each legislator as well as anything between N5-15 Million each for renovations too.

Stop the criticisms based on her previous profession so that we can focus more on the substance.

Re: The Honorable Speaker (hairdresser.) by ayomifull(f): 3:05pm On Sep 24, 2007
Can we please drop this certificate thing! The unhonourable woman and her co armed robbers wants to divert our attention from the armed robbery that happened in the name of renovation, no it can not be swept under the carpet and she definitely should just bow her head in shame instead of trying to shift attention and get cheap sympathy.

I agree with Folem that professional career or job should not be a condition to hold a political office. We need a decent, committed and honest individual.

Its about competence. The job requires a high level of competence which one might not expect in a hairdresser

Who or What professional is competent to be speaker by your own definition?

It is very puerile that many people have chosen to lay much emphasis on the fact that the speaker is a hairdresser, as if that disqualifies her from possessing common sense. You don't go to school to learn how to be Speaker of The House of Representatives or House of Assembly. In all countries practising democracy, and where they have an elected house, people from every work of life are elected based on the popular vote.

BTW the current speaker is a 3-term lawmaker.
Re: The Honorable Speaker (hairdresser.) by chidichris(m): 6:26pm On Sep 24, 2007
if we must overlook everything about the woman, it must not be the means of her assumption of office.
one will always think of how she came to power.
she is obj's anointed and for this reason she is not our speaker rather obj's speaker.
hairdressing may be her talent not speaking so let her go back to her workshop and do what she does best.
how many women in the house is she dressing their hair or since when did hair styles be our problems?
she is a simple thief and one of the federal criminals representing the women folks in the criminal activities of pdp.
i know with her personality and whatever, she cannot win election as the chairman of her local government's hair dressers' association.
anyways, one can see from her dressing how she trapped obj and the next allegation will be if she has a baby for obj because nothing goes for nothing in nigeria.

Certain professions require higher levels of mental aptitude and competence which will come in handy for being a Speaker.Hairdressing isn't one of them.

It is very puerile that many people have chosen to lay much emphasis on the fact that the speaker is a hairdresser, as if that disqualifies her from possessing common sense.

Is common sense a sufficient quality you look for in a Speaker.Illiterates have common sense,so you won't have any problem with a stark illiterate being a Speaker?

In all countries practising democracy, and where they have an elected house, people from every work of life are elected based on the popular vote.
The only problem with the above is that its untrue. You will find that most people who occupy such positions often have stellar academic credentials
Re: The Honorable Speaker (hairdresser.) by Mamajama(m): 8:13pm On Sep 24, 2007
My question was, how long ago was she an hairdresser? and what does that have to do with her potential as a politician?

Don't we have actors and wrestlers in politics? I heard there was a porn star in politics too. Lol

To end this argument, I’ll want to ask anyone to list at least five point of what should be use to qualified a person to be a Hon. Speaker of any house of Assembly (e.i education, family, etc)
Re: The Honorable Speaker (hairdresser.) by chidichris(m): 8:59am On Sep 25, 2007
i am suspecting she was given this position while massaging the past president. maybe that was why she needed a more scientific massage machine at the cost of N98 million.
a N98 million massage machine and a renovation cost of N628 million in a country without electricity, water supply, no security and very bad roads and total lack of basic armenities.
well, she is not alone. ribadu can use this as a basis of placing his organisation's success in the one sided war against corruption.

Yes, we do have actors and wrestlers in politics and also chicken farmers and shipyard workers too.

I repeat that in all countries practising democracy, and where they have an elected house, people from every work of life are elected based on the popular vote.

May I ask you, what are the stellar academic credentials of the last Speaker of the House of Representatives Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari? or did the "stellar" academic credentials of former Senate President Chuba Okadigbo save him from impeachment on grounds of misappropriation of funds?
Re: The Honorable Speaker (hairdresser.) by tonia2000(f): 10:18am On Sep 25, 2007
Really i believe potentials and ones ability to perform a designated duty is the most important,Being a hairdresser or even fashion designer doesnt matter it could be an added skill/advantage and shouldnt be an obstruction or limitation to becoming a speaker in any circumstances.Patricia Etteh if not for her Greed is an Experienced politician.
Re: The Honorable Speaker (hairdresser.) by ono(m): 11:51am On Sep 25, 2007
Folem's view is very much valid and I'll go with him.

Paper qualification and the number of certificates you have does not in any way indicate or guarantee your level of intelligence. This has been proven time and again all over the world.

I suggest we stop chasing shadows and face the substance of this Ettehgate saga; like Folem rightly said.

Repeating something doesn't make it true.We are discussing the position of Speaker and I am totally unaware of democracies where people from any work of life get to be appointed Speaker. It is not a coincidence that almost all of them had stellar academic credentials and excellent careers in intellectually tasking jobs.

Giving me the example of Alhaji Masari is bizzare since the whole point of the discussion is that Nigeria has a culture of medicority.

Former US president George Washington  never attended college but he had a classical education in morals, manners and gentlemanly conduct which matters most.

He was a Planter, farmer and soldier, and was a professional surveyor at age 16

Bill Gate is also a very good example but anybody that should hold political office must “have a classical education in morals, manners and gentlemanly conduct which matters most" as mensioned by folem. Which means that such person must be genius, innovative and proactive.
So, Mrs. Etteh is a genius, innovative and proactive person or she has a good moral, and conduct that is perhaps known to all or what do you think?
So, is Mrs. Etteh a genius or beauticians a job of a genious?
Re: The Honorable Speaker (hairdresser.) by sirwebs(m): 4:38pm On Sep 26, 2007
Can somebody pls tell me some of the bills tha have originated from Etteh? In what capacity had she acted in the House before being made Speaker courtesy of the chance of Birth place?

Who is talking about morals. She is a corrupt woman and not a very smart one at that. Imagine The Speaker of the House defending herself and justifying her actions by telling us she could have stayed in a hotel and incurred more debts. Sounds like the mentality of someone in Kindagaten. Maybe she didn't even attend one.
Re: The Honorable Speaker (hairdresser.) by chidichris(m): 6:13pm On Sep 26, 2007
the woman in question is just a shadow, as a good actress, she was bent on reading and interpretation of scripts well written by the secret operators who are bent on achieving the third term agenda.
credentials will only come into play when you go the wrong ways otherwise no one will care who u are when the going is good.
leadership is a thing of the heart and has nothing to do with education and criminality also is a thing of the heart and most times run in families so a careful examination of the woman can lead us to the source of her actions against the helpless nigerians
Re: The Honorable Speaker (hairdresser.) by Seun(m): 6:22pm On Sep 26, 2007
If a beautician can read and write, is honest, is willing to learn, and has common sense, she is qualified. wink

The whole society needs moral overhaul. At least where thieves are not celebrated

Re: The Honorable Speaker (hairdresser.) by chidichris(m): 11:51am On Sep 27, 2007
this cartoon says it all. the woman is into beauty and fashion so give her 1 billion dollars, she will know how best to ultilize and finish it on a bed room flat talkless of such a big house.
anyways, charity begins at home.
she better go back and start from her house.
i think the woman in questions is qualified as a proffessional in many aspects of life eg. hairdresser, beautician, politician and a criminal

The governor of the sixth richest economy in the world is a body builder and an actor, his name=Arnold Schwarzenegger. Former American president Ronald Reagan was a B-movie actor. Judge her by the way she leads parliament.
