the quote goes

Ojukwu is a traitor number one and we describe him as a fugitive offender. He is a traitor and we are not happy about that. He led us into a war and we were with him but he abandon us and ran away.

mumu alj_harem, does it occur to you that those igbos who were/are bitter at ojukwu for his so called running away, actually wanted to continue the war? do you even have a brain at all?

if ojukwu stayed, the war would have simply continued.
effiong even mentioned it indirectly.

Ojukwu left after it was clear and unequivocal that Biafra's defenses had been crushed.  If Ojukwu stayed the Nigerian troops would have done to him what the rebels in Libya did to Ghaddafi.  They would have humiliated him and killed him.  We must remember that Ojukwu was a leader who commanded the respect of his people.  If Ojukwu was humiliated publicly and killed, the post war reconciliation process would have been very difficult (almost impossible).  Igbos would have hated Nigeria forever and they would have refused to assimilate.  We need to thank God that Ojukwu was able to see writing on the wall and leave at the right time.  Below is an excerpt from an article written by a man who witnessed Ojukwu's departure:

"Odumegwu-Ojukwu left Biafra for exile on January 11th, 1970 and the war ended January 12th when Uli airport was captured by Nigerian forces. By January 6th when Owerri (the last Biafra capital) was captured, Biafran resistance was effectively over. We held Uli airport to allow the Biafran leadership to escape because we knew the true intentions of Nigerian forces. Nigeria would have loved to capture Odumegwu-Ojukwu, parade and mock him before executing him. So, it was our prayers that Odumegwu-Ojukwu would be wise (not stubborn) enough to escape before Nigerian troops takeover Uli airport. By God's grace, Odumegwu-Ojukwu left before we surrendered Uli airport. Despite the Nigerian "No Victor and No Vanquished" and "generous amnesty" at the end of the war, Gowan (the then Nigerian leader) confirmed on January15, 2003(BBC) that Ojukwu would have be killed if he did not escape in 1970. God saves!! We thank God for Odumegwu-Ojukwu's life because the enemy still wants him dead."

He fought against Nigeria and was welcomed back as a hero into the same country that he fought against. He was blessed.
