Fuel Subsidy, Anti-government Protests And The International Media by JayCee2010: 6:28pm On Jan 04, 2012
FUEL SUBSIDY IS GONE!!! And its not gonna be back, at least any time soon. Jonathan called our bluff and proved to nigerians that he wasn't a "spineless wimp" after all!

Prices of virtually EVERYTHING, from transport to food stuff to photocopies have more than doubled. There is a huge public outcry against the government with protests sprawling all over the country. So far the official death toll is at one. (RIP Mustafa)

But maybe the removal of the subsidy is in our best interest-what with our deplorable economic state. However what guarantee do nigerians have that the proceeds from the removal will eventually and soon benefit nigerians, with all the shameless corruption in the government?

How does Jonathan expect to buffer the effect of this fuel subsidy removal for nigerians, 90% of whom live on less than $2 a day??

Who should be held responsible for the loss of lives and property that would result from anti-government protests

Why is the international media-CNN and others, not covering the situation in Nigeria like they did for other occupy movements??

These protests aren't necessarily about the fuel subsidy removal, but a reaction to nigerians being fed up with the uncontrollable corruption and embezzlemnet in the country- Our own occupy movement

How can Jonathan expect to successfully implemet austerity measures in a country where most people are living in abject poverty, and he and his cabinet and legislators live lavish and luxurious life styles at the expense of the common man

Jonathan is telling Nigerians: " Manage the hardship for some time, things might get better in the future. If they don't, then get used to it ( after all I used to walk barefooted to school). In the mean time, I will continue to enjoy all the luxuries and priviledges of being your president, and allocate ridiculous sums of money to my office to fund my lavish lifestyle!!!"

God Help Nigeria!
