Personally, my suggestion is that government should shave about N30 off the subsidy amount and demonstrate its ability by using the saved amount to lay railway tracks from the South West of Nigeria to the South East of Nigeria. Also do same from North West of Nigeria to North East. This can be finished within two years.

Government should then lease the use of the tracks to a reputable firm for a lease period of 20 years and recoup all the money spent on the tracks. See there? It did not cost a thing!

Simultaneously, offer bank guarantees to reputable companies that want to build refineries in Nigeria (only companies that have built same in other countries) sign MOUs to the effect that subsidy will be removed within two years time. To convince them further pledge to buy all refined products at prevailing market rate where subsidy is not removed. In two years come back to the Nigerian people and present your achievement, announce other great projects and remove the remaining subsidy.

Kindly repost the idea if you agree, or tell our president if you have his ear, before he runs the country into a ditch.

This guy going by the pseudo name Beaf is a spinner of tangled yarns. So because GEJ is from the minority group, this diminishes the mandate handed to him by by a reasonable majority of the nigerian people.GEJ unfortunately does bot understand what authority and power is niether does he know how to wield them,Gen.Danjuma was the first to tell him this.GEJ has allowed himself to be tossed here and there with absolutely no resolve at anything.Aside lacking administrative experience in handling a country as Nigeria which he confessed to,he lacks practical innitiative and any form of creative leadership.Beaf should let him know what he owes nigerians, break off the status quo ,take radical stance and deliver on promises of the mandate the people handed him,

How can men of God condemn the present situation, don't you know that the current hardship in the country is good for church business? There is a straight correlation between poverty and religiousity as men seek divine help to solve simple problem like maleria, fertility issues, and other Poverty related issues. The more hardship there is the more despirate the people, the more they are susceptible to exploitation by men of gods, alfas, Babalawos and all manner of shaman.

There is no savings whatsoever from removal of subsidy. In the last budget government allocated about N220billion but ended up spending close to N1.5trillion, so where did the balance come from? If there is to be any money to be expected from fuel subsidy removal, we would have seen it in the expected revenue projection of the budget.

We also need to show some encouragement, but wait despite all that we have been deprived of, the government should at least pay for some their own personal needs from their salary to help us cut cost.

nuclearboy: grin. What would 30% of their salaries do when allowances alone exceed one Billion? Who would trust that an announced "donation" is not followed by a quietly applied increase in "allowances"?

Way its going, this seems not a quarrel about fuel subsidy but one about corruption, wrong priorities and greed in high places!

You want a proposal? Okay, let them reduce national recurrent expenditure from 72% to 45% across board! Let the NASS reduce their total pay package by 70%! 30% of at least 20 million each is still 3 million per month. That is enough for "public SERVANTS". The pesident can bloody well feed himself and family and there is no frigging need for every dunce in govt to have an official trained with Nigerian funds, stand behind him always - let those policemen go to work as detectives etc rather than as ADCs.

Govt uses too much fuel on escort cars. Let ministers pay for their fuel and only the president and VP be fueled by the country. And 10 cars is enough for ANY motorcade rather than dozens and 5 mile long road blocks.

When such as these are seen, the man on the street will feel easy but right now, gej supporters feel they have been lied to and cheated and won't listen to "palliatives" such as a fake 30% "donation" out of Billions
what you have suggested ain't happening here! This is Nigeria o!

@Poster, I fully agree with your motion. Those of you supporting the removal of fuel subsidy are nothing but traitors. I wonder how many of you are even aware of the fact that the monthly salary of a Federal legislator in Nigeria is more than that of US President Barack Obama. And 25% of the Nigerian annual budget is spent on salaries, benefits and other expenditures accrued by our so-called Federal Executive council. Considering this senseless misplacement of priorities plus the cantankerous corruption in the govt, why should there be adequate money to finance social development project in the country in the first place? As if this gross injustice is not enough, they are blaming the lack of funds on the only last govt subsidy (fuel) left for the poor masses.

Some educated illiterates in support of fuel subsidy removal often try to relate our situation with other developed countries, not knowing that the minimum monthly wages in many of those countries are even more than the annual salary of most Nigerians, how silly can one be to compare "apples" with not even oranges, but with "kulikuli" .

What the sensible masses are saying is that the problem (lack of fund for social projects) is due to the rotten system of governance. Removing fuel subsidy and even increasing fuel cost 100 fold would not bring social development as long as GEJ's "chop I chop" system remains . An old wine may be put in a new bottle, but its still an old wine.

GEJ and his FEC should lead by example by first removing/cutting the incessant "chop I chop" subsidies they enjoy, before having the audacity to debate whether or not to remove fuel subsidy for the masses. Saying fuel subsidy is the reason why there's no enough money to finance social projects is treasonable and a great affront on the sensibility of Nigerian masses.
