Am I On The Right Path? by Goodadvice01(op): 8:12am On Apr 17, 2025
I have been thinking over this issue for almost a week now but I can't seem to come up with any solution.

I decided to learn barbing from the best hands in my state as against coming to Lagos now. My initial plan was to learn it from now to December so that by January I'll come to Lagos as advised by some nairalanders. But the only problem I'm facing is that the apprenticeship fee is high, infact, I can't afford it to say the least.

So I decided to submit more CV and application letter. I submitted cv's to ten hotels and two filling stations on the 14th and 15th though I'm yet to hear from any.

If I'm hired anytime soon, my plan is to be removing 20k/25k from my salary and be paying it to the barbing salon every month so that when I'm done paying the apprenticeship fee by year end then I'll resign from the job and start learning the barbing work.

Is this a doable task? Can I achieve this?

Why pay money for something you have not started, what if you where not able to complete the payment, you think he will refund you what you have paid so far, don't just think of that.

There's nothing one cannot do,if he focuses his/her mind on it.

How old are you.

You are on the right track.

How much is the money and what is the duration of the training

Save the money in a bank and when it is complete, you can pay it at once, instead of paying in piecemeal.

During the training, avoid anything that will make you not to complete it.

I'm 25. The money is 150k.

What if I use it for other family problems

Why would you use your apprenticeship money to solve family problem.

Are your parents not working, don't you have other siblings, are you the eldest.

You are getting old, now,I got married at 26 years.

You're not the head of your family, don't use your apprenticeship money to solve family problems.problems nor they finish for this life

Are you the eldest

Barbing is a good skill to have. The bigger the city the more the competition . Do you have what it takes to be a good barber? ...are you good with your hands?...steady hands? .. .can get your hands to do exactly what you have in mind? Clumsy people cannot be barbers... precision is necessary.
If you have what it takes... I'll advise you invest some of that money and buy a clipper set and a good quality pair of barbing scissors. Go to You Tube and learn from relevant videos. You will be wayyy better off because you will be learning many techniques from certified veterans in the field . IPractice makes Perfect . Reason this... if the barber will teach you ...whose heads will you be practicing on? ...his head?...his customers ' heads? On your own ...you practice on your siblings' heads ...those of your neighbours ...other children in the neighbourhood. Which parent in these hard times will not send their children to get a free haircut? When you have practiced enough and reached a reasonable level ... that's when you start charging a small fee.... like a quarter of the standard price. The aim here is not to make you rich ... but to have some income and most of all ..to build a clientele. People like their hair cut I a certain way....so they stick to their barber as much as possible for as long as possible. The White House has a barber ..a professional barber...but yet Obama was trying to get his regular barber to continue cutting his hair but couldn't. With the cheap price you are grooming loyal customers. If you choose to be an apprentice.... you're done..paid the fees...go to Lagos ...rent a spot ...open a barber shop... who do you think would really be coming to risk a butcher job from you? ..... who will help the cat?

Buy a clipper set ..... learn on your own.

Instead of paying small small to the owner of the salon where you want to run the apprenticeship

Why not open an account for that purpose and start saving for it

This is to avoid stories as things may change or plans may change and you can't get your money back
