KANO, January 9, 2012 (AFP) – Police and protesters clashed in Nigeria’s north Monday as thousands converged on a governor’s office during nationwide fuel price strikes, leaving 30 wounded, including 18 who were shot. Protesters set two vans ablaze and also sought to set fire to the home of central bank governor Lamido Sanusi in Kano, but were stopped by police. A union leader also said police shot dead a protester in Nigeria’s commercial capital Lagos as thousands of people demonstrated there. Police fired tear gas and shot into the air as thousands of protesters converged on the governor’s office in the northern city of Kano as part of a national strike over fuel prices. A huge crowd of protesters had gathered in Kano, the main city in Nigeria’s north, and clashes broke out with police who pushed them back as they tried to enter the governor’s office, an AFP correspondent reported. Protesters set two vans ablaze and also sought to set fire to the home of central bank governor Lamido Sanusi in Kano, but were stopped by police. “In total, we have 30 wounded, 18 of them with gunshot wounds,” said Red Cross official in Kano Musa Abdullahi, updating an earlier toll of 14 wounded, half of them shot http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/01/protesters-set-vans-ablaze-sought-to-set-fire-on-cbn-govs-home/ |

Re: Protesters Set Vans Ablaze, Sought To Set Fire On Cbn Gov’s Home ! by muami(m): 2:59pm On Jan 09, 2012 |
alj harem:They simply did not shoot because they have been infiltrated by Boko Haram. Yes, we are not in dictator regime just as protesters are not dictators. so if they ask for it, you give to them. Try and use protest to breach No. 10 or the White House and see if you would not be shot. |

muami: God's grace does not work for nincompoops like you, you would dare to state that the police should have shot to kill. Are you out of your mind? Today alone, the police have actually shot and killed a protester in Lagos. And you have the nerve to post such ediotic imbecilic c.rap urging the police to shoot to kill? You will live a miserable life. Everything that you desire in life will be ruptured and stolen from you. Your body will be torn to pieces in the most violent circumstances. You will die by shooting very soon. That is my prayer for you in the mighty name of the most high God. And it wll come to pass. Ba.stard. You are not worthy of life. Amen. |

^ Please go and read history jaare. There is no uprising of people in history that does not develop violent edges or that is not to some extent taken over by such actions. The question you ought to ask is what is causing this? ? ? ? There are many forms of violence. The oppression of the poor by harsh policies is a huge form of violence. The shooting of protesters is violence. It is hypocritical to exact such violence on the poor and expect them to remain non-violent. |

Protesters turning into "burning down houses and residences", this is serious o, muami: How do you know that protest hasn't been done aggressively @ the White House? Ask the Tea Part Group as well as other groups who have protested @ the White House. Apparently you won't climb over the gates but it doesn't mean anyone was shot. Haba, you guys should carry news that you know of. |

My understanding is that the shooting of protesters by police is to curtail their arson and terror tactics. so my observation still stands. The protesters are now becoming glorified arsonist and terrorists. Quite sad! |

NIGERIA BEHOLD YOUR REAL LEADER - Christine Lagarde See us your Nigerian CBN Govornor & Other top Official are selling us Out!!! Here is the proof of what is really happening and behind the riots in Nigeria, Guinea, Cameroon, Ghana and Chad [b]IMF Forces African Nations to Remove Fuel Subsidies January, 1, 2012 NewsRescue- Joining Guinea, Cameroon, Ghana and Chad, Nigeria on New Years day removed fuel subsidies in accordance with an order from the IMF (International Monetary Fund). This created a jump in the price of automobile fuel from about 65 Naira per liter to 140Naira per liter overnight, Sunday. This brings fuel/gas prices in Nigeria to about the same price it is in the US, though lower than many European nations. http://www.newsrescue.com/2012/01/imf-forces-african-nations-to-remove-fuel-subsidies/ http://globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=28520 |
