How Can We End Corruption In Nigeria: From Top To Bottom, Or Bottom To Top? by Princek12(m): 10:03pm On Jan 19, 2012
Do you think that in order to end corruption in Nigeria, that it would have to start from the top, that is, start from the people at the helm of government. Or do you think that it would have to start from the bottom, that is, start from ordinary Nigerians like you and me. Either way, it has to start somewhere. I'd love to hear from my intelligent Nairaland brethren.

How about from side to side?

What kind of reasoning is this? Corruption can be fought effectively when we all do what is right within our respective areas of influence. We need not be involved with government to fight this monster. This is something all of us has had a hand in raising so why should it be any different in bringing it to a stop?

As if we don't already know.

Pass a STRONG, NON DEFIANT anti-corruption with punishments up to the "DEATH PENALTY" depending on the type of crime and what components it's associated with.

Dealing with Corruption starts from the Church

and then to the Rich looters and Fraudsters including Corrupt past and present leaders plus traditional rulers and LG Chairmen, Councilors, office holders

Forgery should be checked and those found wanting sacked.

Followed by the middle class

then the Youth and the Poor.

Everybody from CHURCH, MOSQUES must confess and restore all they have stolen and wasted

ELSE they will be made to restore seven times (7) of whatever they have stolen or wasted.

I am sorry to say this, but the truth is that those who say from Bottom to up has never given this a thought.

Corruption was enshrined in Nigeria from Top down. There is unmanageable corruption because those at the very top, abuses our law and render them ineffective. Now tell me how we can get all the families in Nigeria to abandon corruption when our laws are very flawed in its implementation?

Whereas a single determined President can pick out very few hands among the Nigerian lots and work with them to make our laws effective and with that, corruption will be reduced. People are generally born to be selfish and like cutting corners. It is only because of the law that people from other clime seem to be better than us.

So our problem is not necessarily corruption so to say, but a leadership that refused to do its work. Our task is to have right thinking leaders. To use our best 11, as leaders and not common criminals in power

Nigeria's biggest problem is lawlessness. The only way we can tackle corruption is by enforcing the rule of law.
But it's pretty tough cos we've sunk so low sad

I always beleive in the power of the peeple, it needs to start with the everyday man that will teach his children not to be corrupt and inforce truthful values in them, so they can in turn live upright. If the government see this trend they know the people wont stand for their corrupt ways. sadly Nigeria is many generations away from reaching this objective.

Yes, most Nigerians both at the top and the bottom are corrupt. But also in the same Nigeria, the lawmakers, and the enforcers of the law happen to be at the top. Since you need the lawmakers, and the enforcers in order to fight corruption, it behooves you to start this by fighting to end/curb corruption at the top in order for to get the trickle down effect you need.

Electoral reform is the answer!

When our leaders know and understand that they can be voted out if they do not perform, then they will sit up and do what is necessary. The reason why our leaders are doing nothing at the moment is that they believe they can always "buy their way" back to office. If there are real elections and voters understand the power of their votes, our leaders will be forced to fight corruption and we will all join in.
