I've always wondered why cousins cannot marry each other. But in the Bible, cousins were able to marry each other, so why is our own different here?
I was told that there's a religion that allows two first-cousins to marry each other. I don't want to mention the religion, but I know you know.
Also, I was told Chinese marry their cousins and that's why they all look alike.
But if you try it here, they will accuse you of committing incest. And this can be traditionally an abominable act, a taboo that will make the gods angry.

So now, who says it is wrong for cousins to marry themselves and who says it is not wrong?

Here's my Take on this:

"Marrying your cousin doesn’t automatically cause problems, but genetically it increases the chances of both partners carrying the same hidden (recessive) genes. If those genes carry a disorder, the children have a higher risk of being affected. That’s why cousin marriages can lead to more health issues in the bloodline over generations. The closer the relation, the higher the risk".
I'm not a medical practitioner, I may be wrong though. But this is what I can say.

Now, let’s draw probabilities using geography. Say you’re cut off from four billion potential partners, you still have — at the very least — one hundred million potentials (half of Nigeria’s population). Why should a human being return to his/her family tree for a life partner? Science already shows that doing so is dooming the next generation with unfavorable mutations. Our ancestors likely realized what is common knowledge today, hence why the practice is verboten.

The Bible was made up by illiterate shepherds in times before science. It holds no law to be considered in modern times. The same as most religions.

Some families have longevity gene in their bloodline while some have gene defect that causes some sickness and misfortunes that lead to untimely death, barrenness, delayed destiny, etc. In the olden days, our forefathers in Igbo land for instance made sure a family that carry the misfortune of untimely death or poverty or madness marry from a family that carry the good gene and fortune of prosperity, longevity and sound mind to help their children evade the chances of getting their bad family gene and misfortune.
