‘Return Home’, Igbo Leaders Tell Igbos In The North by Pukkah: 3:07pm On Jan 29, 2012
At different meetings held in Enugu State over the weekend, Igbo leaders urged Igbos still living in the northern part of Nigeria to “come back home”. They based their decision on the incessant killing of their kinsmen by members of Islamist sect, Boko Haram.

One of the meetings was held in the residence of late Odumegwu Ojukwu and had the former President-General of Ohaneze-Ndigbo, Justice Eze Ozobu, and the leader of the Movement for Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Ralph Uwazurike, in attendance.

Another meeting was held between South East governors, politicians, and traditional rulers among other Igbo stakeholders. The Ohaneze Youth Wing also held a meeting, while the fourth was a South-East/South-South professionals meeting.

A statement signed by the chairman of the South East Governors Forum, Governor Peter Obi of Anambra, condemned the spate of killings going on in the country, and said that they (Igbos) were angry, especially as it affects Ndigbo.

“We have set up a committee to monitor the development as it unfolds and advice on future actions. We assure our people living in the North and other parts of the country that we are in constant touch with the various state governments to ensure the security of their lives and property,” he said.

However, on their part, the MASSOB and Ohaneze-Ndigbo leaders ordered all the wives and children of Ndigbo in the North to return home while their husbands stay back to take care of their investments.

According to Uwazurike and Ozobu, refugee centres have been created “all over Igboland to accommodate those without home”.

“The current situation in the North and the rampant killing of our Ndigbo, mothers and sisters in these areas, bring to mind a sequence of events and the pogrom that culminated in the tragedy of the Nigeria civil war. We are calling once again for emergency desks in the affected areas to be set up to access data regarding the nature of people who have lost their lives in the incidence,” they said.

“We are calling for immediate return of Igbo wives and children so that their safety can be assured here in the East. For the Igbo nation is once again facing an impending refugee crisis and our people are being forced to flee their homes and places of work and business to avoid death.”

More like which way Igbo people. Governors and fmr thieves in office said nothing happened to their people in north, and now this?

More like which way Southern minority. Our governors here are all thieves, along with their deputies, and we dont know how to pull out of this country

More like which way Yorubas. Even our venerable Fashola is completely playing to the gallery of Owambe leadership this 2nd term.

More like which way Middle Belters. We cant seem to get this "Northern" Islamic belt off our nyash

we are in constant touch with the various state governments to ensure the security of their lives and property,” he said.

State govts cant even guarantee safety for their own indigenes, where will they find time to guarantee that for others?

I smell a bad omen getting ready to happen. . . . . one of two things are likely here going forward.

1. A situation where, following this order, boko react by trying to ambush the evacuees along the way back to East.
2. A situation where criminals, particularly ibos themselves out of their greed ambush the evacuating buses to extort money or rob them.

What I think this Igbo leadership need to do next is release a public statement appealing to boko that they have heard their messages to get out of North and are responding to it, they should show mercy to the evacuating families and allow them safe passage home.

In december last year, a batch of igbo families fleeing Maiduguri were pursued and selectively murdered. You dont want repeat of that.

Likewise, I think it will be very very important for this leadership to provide escort convoys for the evacuees.

I hope they have a long term plan to either secede successfully after returning to the East, or the men staying behind get trained to fight for their investment. Bottomline is that I am measuring the success of Igbo leadership these days with their ability to deliver secession successfully, or fight in the core North effectively.
Anything else is not good enough. We cannot be repeating the same ritual everytime. We are either Nigerians or we are not. If we are, we must be able to live and die in any part of Nigeria; else we must secede immediately.

It is not the "Hausa money"; it is that people started to believe in one Nigeria after Biafra was forced back into Nigeria.
"Home" is now ALL parts of Nigeria. cool
That is why I personally urge my people to never leave the North unless we have been assured of successful secession.

No Igbo man believes in one NIgeria. Esp after the war.
Traveling is a huge factor in business success.

Show them the amount of money to be made in the SE, they'll come home.
Re: ‘Return Home’, Igbo Leaders Tell Igbos In The North by Onlytruth(m): 12:36am On Jan 30, 2012
You may not believe it but Igbo is perhaps the only big tribe in Nigeria that bought into the lie called One Nigeria, especially after they were forced back in after Biafra. They went out and started investing.

If Eastern Nigeria or even Igboland is assured of secession, then we must leave immediately and declare our independence from Nigeria.

Yorubas allow many different tribes to live in their lands without chaos and tribal killing, even after the war. For peace.
Igbo traveled in hope of large customers. That's business.

All we have to do is read posts on NL. Stop with the charade.

It is even funny for anyone to advise Igbo to go back home and stay there when Nigeria remains one.
That is why Nigeria MUST disintegrate to allow us go home and plan a great nation for ourselves and our children.

Yoruba are not Igbo; no offense. We have different dreams and aspirations and how we attain them.
Igbo man believes in taking his destiny in his own hands; business or trading for instance is given higher priority by Igbo than Yoruba.
The only way for us to pursue our God given rights to freedom and liberty is to be allowed to secede from Nigeria.
Those who want to live in a fake nation can go ahead. It has nothing to do with money. It has everything to do with FREEDOM.

We went home and actually declared independence from Nigeria in 1967. What we got in return was a war levied against us, and 2 million of our people died as a result. We've seen this dance before, that is why I urge my people to stay put and be ready to fight. We running home does not guarantee us safety, or even a possible disintegration of Nigeria.

The easiest way to know what a human being believes is to follow his money trail.
I can actually say that Hausa is the least to believe in Nigeria, followed CLOSELY by Yoruba. If you doubt me, follow their investments and see. No man puts his money in a place he does not believe in.

Humans basically put their money where their heart is.

I repeat, no majority tribe believes in Nigeria more than Igbo; but a human being has a limit even to his beliefs.

@ bolded,

wow! the fear of the yorubas is surely the beginning of wisdom for the igbos.

Okay what if we promised not to join the mallams in killing you igbos? Are the igbos willing to promise not to attempt to "liberate" us , next time they declare their

biafran dream? Deal??

Let me clarify this for you more. We are not afraid of your joining aboki. What we are concerned about is that by doing so, you paint a picture of a Nigeria united against the Igbos. In the civil war, that is what you achieved by joining aboki, not your military contribution to the campaign. I don't want to go into the debate about your contribution. We know who fought the war against Biafra. I won't debate it.

Even if you don't raise a finger against us, simply voicing your support for one Nigeria when we want out rallies the international community against a "belligerent and strong headed Igbo". We want peace and progress for our people. So, the best you can do for us to declare Oduduwa if we declare Biafra or Igboland independence.
