One of the signs of the end time.Instead of the church setting the pace,we are the ones copying the world. What is the motive behind Valentine? Celebration of lust and promotion of mercantile. You dont need to be a prophet to perceive thick stench of sex and unbriddled passsion in the air. Just step out into fast food places on this day and you will be confronted by tennage boys and girls in pairs. What do you call this? On this day,Satan unleashes his arsenal on the whole earth. Many would lose their virginity on this day; many would contract HIV : many would be raped too.

Sorry. A Christian is a christian. A sinner is a sinner. Chrismas, Valentine day, Easter, Sunday Mass or Service, Ash wednesday etc. are christian ceremonies meant for good. But If anyone wants to use iit as avenue for sin, no one stops him. The truth is that those who truly understands what the ceremonies mean would always benefit from the grace involved. If a married couple who has been living in chaos for all these years would on Feb. 14 2012 decide to settle their dispute, Glory be to God.

It is so funny and amazing how people are so quick to make up different meanings and significance of the St. Valentine's Day. For your information, historically, the day has nothing to do with giving to the poor or less privileged; it's simply and purely a day lovers use to rekindle their affection for each other.
Pls dust up your history book before coming here to make comments; some of us in here are very well versed in history.

There goes another meaning for valentine. Catholics in the house please is this true or you guys really do not even have the slightest clue of what valentine really is?
Re: Valentine Celebration Is Forbidden In Christianity by 2mch(m): 11:53pm On Feb 05, 2012
Is this a sin? Is that a sin? life is short o, make una live a little. Even Jesus drank wine. Nigerian's always want to be holier than thou, but havw no problem visiting evil babalawo's to harm themselves. hypocrites cool
Re: Valentine Celebration Is Forbidden In Christianity by OmoPastor(m): 7:43am On Feb 06, 2012
One can see that the so called catholics seem to be lost at the true meaning of valentine. Just see the post on the front page about picking val pal, where do you think such union will end? Yet some say its their time to re-kindle some love? Rubbish!!!

Val has pagan origine. Early christians did not celebrate it, niether our master Jesus. All the iniquities associated with val is a sign that God's spirit is not in it. Therefore, true christians should avoid such ungodly observance and stick 2 the ones endorsed by our Lord, namely, rememberance of Christ death.

Valentine day has become the day of sorrow, regret and weeping for many teenagers. Why? They lost their virtues carelessly through sexual immorality. Therefore, valentine day should be eliminated. God bless omopastor. God2man.

Valentine's day celebration revolves round the actions of a Christian; a Catholic priest who chose love over war by joining young lovers in marital bliss against a stipulated law that arose due to to war.

Good to know that. But in any any case, people today are not bound by some preachers' opinion, so the OP is really a bit silly.
You want to celebrate valentine's Day?
Do it!

You don't want to?
Then don't.
But don't make it a preaching point.

Are you joking?
Do you really believe Valentine's day caused people to have sex before marriage?

Val does not have its root in paganism, pls people should get their facts right before posting. Dont say things based on hearsay, rumour or unfounded facts.
And Jesus had nothing to do with Val cos it had not even started when Jesus was physically here on earth. This thread is really helping to expose our people's shallowness and stupidity.

I am still surprised that someone said that even Jesus did not celebrate Vals day.
It is pertinent to note that the event that led to this celebration happened more than 1000 yrs after the death of Christ,so how will Christ celebrate it? This celebration is optional and should be celebrated by those who value love,
Others can choose not to celebrate. One thing I am sure of is that this celebration will be there' till thy kingdom come'

Many teens today see vals day as a legal day to mess up and you say this does not matter probably some christians agree with this too. We must take a hard stand against this and teach our kids right cos the devil has taken over that day while many think anything that happens that day is okay.
Re: Valentine Celebration Is Forbidden In Christianity by PA1982(f): 8:31pm On Feb 06, 2012
^^^ What are you talking about?
Television, FB, twtter and movies influence teens much more than a specific calendar date in February.
Please don't make yourself ridiculous:
many think anything that happens that day is okay
Get real!
Re: Valentine Celebration Is Forbidden In Christianity by FXKing2012(m): 7:34am On Feb 07, 2012
The true motive of Val is a good one, problem is it has been bastardized just like many other doctrines/teachings have been bastardized.
Re: Valentine Celebration Is Forbidden In Christianity by InesQor(m): 12:28pm On Feb 07, 2012
People don't need Valentine's day to "commit sexual sins", there are 364 other days in a year if they want to do that. So how does forbidding Val's day change anything?  undecided

Edit: another case of treating symptoms.
Re: Valentine Celebration Is Forbidden In Christianity by PA1982(f): 8:26pm On Feb 07, 2012
I'd like to think no one there believes teen sex never occured before St Valentine's Day became popular.
Re: Valentine Celebration Is Forbidden In Christianity by OmoPastor(m): 6:42am On Feb 12, 2012
val day is like an approved day for sexual immorality. many teens have this very wrong and twisted notion that whatever they can think of doing on that day is morally acceptable and generally permitted. many wait for that day to try things out.
Re: Valentine Celebration Is Forbidden In Christianity by numo86(m): 8:27am On Feb 12, 2012
@all, the   simple   truth   is   that   what   ever   that  did   not originate   with   God   never   has   his support & backing,
No matter how much people try to talk about d good part of val or any other pagan celebration that has been christianised(without even d support of Jesus) its origin will always surface,
We dont expect God to waste his holy spirit on a celebration or hoilday that never had its root in d holy scriptures, that is d reason why immorality will always dominate d celebration wether people like it or not,
drinking,smoking,fornication,revelry etc,
If valentine was rili approved by God it would never be like this & only few would be celebrating it,
But since d world we live in is filled with lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God everytin goes, hallowen, xmas, valentine, demonik carnivals etc, as long as there's partying people will always find ways to participate, even if it outrightly displeases God,
Who is st valentine to hav a day that'l make d whole world runnin around screaming LOVE, what happened to our master "Jesus"??, even d apostles never instigated days for christians to celebrate,
And hope we all remember that d pagan god cupid is tied up with valentine's day,
Lets be careful oooo

No doubt, but you are definitely not one of them.

The Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred. One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.

Other stories suggest that Valentine may have been killed for attempting to help Christians escape harsh Roman prisons, where they were often beaten and tortured. According to one legend, an imprisoned Valentine actually sent the first "valentine" greeting himself after he fell in love with a young girl--possibly his jailor's daughter--who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter signed "From your Valentine," an expression that is still in use today. Although the truth behind the Valentine legends is murky, the stories all emphasize his appeal as a sympathetic, heroic and--most importantly--romantic figure. By the Middle Ages, perhaps thanks to this reputation, Valentine would become one of the most popular saints in England and France.

The oldest known valentine still in existence today was a poem written in 1415 by Charles, Duke of Orleans, to his wife while he was imprisoned in the Tower of London following his capture at the Battle of Agincourt. (The greeting is now part of the manuscript collection of the British Library in London, England.)

That's an interesting site to learn fom.

Here's another:
http://www.biblestudy.org/basicart/what-is-true-origin-of-valentines-day.html

The religious police in Saudi Arabia, in 2002 and 2008, banned the sale of all Valentine's Day related items. The police warned shop workers to remove any items colored red as they consider Valentine's Day a Christian holiday. In 2008 this ban created a black market for roses and wrapping paper.

In Pakistan, the Jamaat-e-Islami political party has called for the banning of the holiday. Despite this declaration the celebration of Valentine's Day has grown increasingly popular. Florists are expected to sell a large amount of flowers, especially red roses.

In Iran, the celebration of the holiday has been harshly criticized by conservatives who see the day as opposed to Islamic culture. The Iranian printing works owners' union, in 2011, issued a directive banning the printing and distribution of any goods promoting the Valentine's holiday such as cards, gifts, teddy bears, posters, boxes printed with hearts or half-hearts and red roses. Activities promoting the holiday are also banned. The union warned that "Outlets that violate this will be legally dealt with."

So Christian and Islamic fundies should join in a boycott of VD!

More and from everyone's favourite source:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valentine%27s_Day

Though popular modern sources link unspecified Greco-Roman February holidays alleged to be devoted to fertility and love to St. Valentine's Day, Professor Jack Oruch of the University of Kansas argued that prior to Chaucer, no links between the Saints named Valentinus and romantic love existed.
[18]

So no steamy pagan origins to rail against!

But let's be honest.
We all know the real objection to VD this year:
Champion's League football!
