Most Nigerians have this idea that govt is where the money is at.

They are so wrong. Nigeria's annual budget is $40 billion.

But GDP is $400 billion. wink

That's the Private Sector.

Oil and gas accounts for less than 15% of GDP.

So those hundreds of billions of dollars is all private sector-generated. So the private sector is WHERE THE MONEY IS AT, if you want to form a CNN-grade network, or anything big, in fact, in Nigeria.

If you can leverage the private sector by forming a consortium with qualified people, and you can make a business case for such a station to big companies, it's BOOM TIME! Big money comes in, and you do it.

Go to America, UK etc. Virtually nothing is run by the govt. It's all private sector, from stadiums to airports to power plants to railways to TV networks.

We call ourselves a capitalist economy, yet we seem to have a communist/socialist outlook in which the FG is expected to provide everything. undecided
Do NTA generates funds on programs they air?
What do they do with the adverts funds they generates monthly n annually?
Atleast govt takes care of their personnel cost, what do they do with funds they generates from their local programs?

It's beyond embarrassing. And very unfortunate. The thing is people feel that mediocrity and corruption affects the simple masses on the streets, but the thing is that mediocrity seeps into everything we do. As it is, Nigeria has no defense systems and nothing to show for it's oil wealth. If you trace the reasons why, mediocrity and corruption is at the foundation of that. We have nothing. We are just sitting ducks for when the west realises they have the power to wipe us all out and take what they need.
I tell you, they never reason that matter. Anyday famine or natural catastrophe happens and the zoo becomes the heaven, they will just wipe everybody and occupy it

What allocation? They get a pittance, and have always gotten a pittance. The govt simply can't afford to spend big money to make NTA what you think it should be.

Go and see how much FOX NEWS has to spend each year, and compare it to your 'NTA allocation'. You'll be embarrassed.

Abeg forget. The govt priorities are roads, schools, hospitals etc, not NTA.

Why is govt even SUPPOSED to have expertise in running a TV station??

It's really not their job.

If you want 'CNN-LEVEL', do what those who started CNN did. IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH GOVT.

It's Private Sector.
@your first paragraph, if they can't generate IGR to augment, then the government should stop giving anything and they should close down.

While I am surprised that a studio could look like that, then I am no longer surprised when a paltry N137m is for studio equipment for states capital stations in the whole country.

Ask yourself if N137m is enough for even 1 state capital station?

It means every state capital station of NTA must depend on their own share of the N137m to procure or upgrade existing studio. Hence why you have such obvious makeshift studio.

That is nonsense.

Will the government commit more money to such when it is yet to better fund Healthcare and other infrastructural projects? No!

The respective states NTA stations should pursue IGR from its advert slots and programme slots.
If they can't generate IGR to augment what they get from government, they should close down. This is an eyesore!

The approved moneies for projects that were not disbursed by CBN while national projects suffered for lack of funds, where are they? Where were they channeled to?

thats a perfectly normal tv studio in a country with government sponsored terrorists.
What else did you expect, you want them to make modern studio for people they send terrorist and kidnappers to.
You people need to wakeup before your sense of self preservation blows alarm for you.
NTA is not your friend. NTA and the terrorists have same master, by caring about NTA studio you're saying your life is CHEAP.

Every agency of government using their platform to pursue IGR through adverts and programmes will account for every naira by sending the funds realized to the same government that you are defending!
Those working for the FG and incharge of the states won't cater for the wellbeing of staffs and make provision for the needed equipments but they will still expect the staffers to generate IGR!
How will that be possible when the little they manage to generate is taken from them?

Contextual Information:
Historical Funding: In the 10 years prior to 2021, the federal government invested a total of ₦67 billion into NTA, with a significant portion going toward personnel costs.
2020 Allocation: In 2020, NTA received ₦6.6 billion, with ₦6.1 billion for personnel and only ₦303.8 million for capital projects.
Comparison: In 2025, NTA, alongside the National Orientation Agency (NOA - ₦24.4 billion) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN - ₦21.5 billion), accounted for over 60% of the total budget for the Ministry of Information and National Orientation.
193 Million for Content acquisition? Can you even acquire 3 moderate talent level shows with that? This is not 1980 when actors were paid N500 o.
Re: Checkout What NTA Jos Studio Looks Like (Photos) by Reference(m): 6:29am On Mar 08
When you expertise at government propaganda, that is exactly what you look like in the long run.

The average Nigerian does not watch them and advertisers know this so the real economy puts it's resources elsewhere.

The NTA is supposedly fashioned after the BBC. But even that struggles to compete with the private sector despite the fact they are leagues ahead in authenticity, reliability and truthful reportage.

Like most government institutions that have become political tools and supporters of the 'government of the day' instead of being servants of the people so their fortunes are tied to the government of the day.

Way out.
Nigerians should stand up and demand a charter be established to make the NTA and other government mass media corporations totally apolitical, unbiased and people centric. Only then will the eyes of the public return and with that the resources to compete.

The OP did not pick out the backdrop for criticism.
I think it is the whole set up.
From the picture everything looks to tatty from the furniture to the floor.

It is not only about what is visible on tv. The working environment matters. Remember this is broadcaster is decades old, yet cannot find a culture of excellence, cannot establish decent standards.

The president owns TVC and knows what a modern studio looks like yet they have ignored the NTA.

They benefit from the degradation of government owned institutions. Imagine NTA wirh the widest reach was modernised, they wont make any money so kill the NTA...kinda want they have doelne to education. Kill the public schools and build private ones.

NTA Jos is one of the oldest tv stations in Nigeria.
In 2026, the studio still look like this.
