Any Cisco-certified guys around here?

Hey folks,

I am looking at building a career in networking and telecoms. So I started a self-study programme towards achieving my objective [of getting Cisco-certified]. I might get some training later if I think I need it. But at the moment, I am leaving no stones unturned in making sure I blast the [Cisco] exam at a go.

I would like to know if anyone would be willing to share one or two thoughts with me: advice, materials and other stuff. Cheers. cool

I am in the final semester of CCNA, but I hope you have actual access to a router and switch configuration else life is going to be tough and put bluntly I do not think it is possible to get anywhere without one.

If you have any questions I can help you if you need.

"Cisco Systems, Inc, one of the most successful companies of the Internet era, originally manufactured only enterprise routing equipment. These days, Cisco sells a variety of devices for both enterprises and telecommunications carriers.

"Cisco provides certifications to professionals in the networking field. These include:
[li]CCIE (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert)[/li]
[li]CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional)[/li]
[li]CCDP (Cisco Certified Design Professional)[/li]
[li]CCIP (Cisco Certified Internetwork Professional)[/li]
[li]CCSP (Cisco Certified Security Professional)[/li]
[li]CCVP (Cisco Certified Voice Professional)[/li]
[li]CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate)[/li]
[li]CCDA (Cisco Certified Design Associate)[/li]
I own a cisco 2611 router as well

Btw beleive me you will not be able to pass the certifcation without some kind of formal training, reading it out of a book just won't work.

The CCNA Certification is basic and most common Cisco Certification:

"The CCNA certification indicates a foundation in and apprentice knowledge of networking."

"CCNA certified professionals can install, configure, and operate LAN, WAN, and dial access services for small networks (100 nodes or fewer), including but not limited to use of these protocols: IP, IGRP, Serial, Frame Relay, IP RIP, VLANs, RIP, Ethernet, Access Lists."

CCNA Resources:
[li]"The CCNA Prep Center (a comprehensive, free resource) is designed to assist those preparing for the CCNA certification. Although this site contains useful content for CCNA candidates, it does not cover all the skills and knowledge that you need to prepare for CCNA exams. You will need additional information, training, and support to pass the exam."[/li]
[li]Free CCNA Flash Tutorials on subnetting, layered communication models (OSI, TCP/IP & Cisco), IP addressing, and number systems.[/li]
[li]The Cisco Internetworking Technology Handbook.[/li]

One thing is this, certification does not mean you are well groomed in networking, a career in networking build on certification is nothing but a top down approach.

You need to know your onions first, once you are confident about you hand-on skills you can then proceed for certification. Cisco and MS know this and that's why the test questions in these exams bring your real world experience into the limelight, if you don't know the inner workings of these technologies and you are faced with questions that you have not come across before you are bound to melt like an ice in the Sahara.

Get the hand-on knowledge by working in companies that have these equipments first, but am not sure anyone of them will be willing to employ someone without certification, so this is a caught 22 situation.

All the same i wish you the best.

Q. Which two statements about the transport layer are true?

A . port are used to pass information to the lower layers

B . protocol include file transfer, email, and remote login

C . port number above 1023 are dynamically assigned by the network information center (NIC)

D . port number are used to keep track of different conversations crossing the network at the same time.

E . protocols include a connection-oriented,reliable protocol and a connectionless,unacknowledged protocol

Hi, i'm interested in the Cisco certification advise and Material.

How can i acquire the certification and Materials ?
Re: Cisco Certification Advice, Materials by Hunter(m): 11:36am On Dec 11, 2005
Usually you take a course but you can study it yourself (not recommend unless absolutesly impossible to get any "hands on")
You get 50% off the certification fee if you actually study it at an academy (I'm not sure if the same applies to other countries)

Also those that can I recommend a book called "Cisco Certified Network Assosciate" by todd lammle.
It's an excellent book as it gives you the technical know how without the dryness of the cisco material.
Re: Cisco Certification Advice, Materials by bijorium(m): 8:27am On Dec 12, 2005
Hi, I happen to have links to the latest dumps. Bit I daresay that experience in the networking field is a plus. I have worked with Cisco routers and switches for close to a year and should be writing my ccna anytime from now. Todd Lammle's 5th edition published by Sybex is definitely a material you should read back to back. Try visit a few forums online to test your level of preparedness.

Cheers grin

I like it perticularly because of how lammel makes an attempt to make some of the stuff more interesting that it really is by putting jokes etc in it, and by writing why you would use something and under what circumstances.

[li][/li]

It beaks my heart to see you guys being ripped off by these companies.

For anyone interested in CISCO certification I would recommend self study but you will have to be dedicated and disciplined.
