What a shame! Our Immediate-past President.

Was he expecting a red carpet reception or tea with the Queen?

OBJ definitely has a delusion about himself, his record and his past administration.

Obasanjo Quizzed In London

. Implicated by Ibori

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo was last Wednesday quizzed for over two hours by the London Metropolitan Police, as part of their investigation of James Ibori, the former governor of Delta State. Ibori is currently being investigated in the UK on charges of corruption.

LEADERSHIP Sunday learnt that Obasanjo was invited by the London Metropolitan Police and was only released after he gave a written statement to the police.

Sources revealed further that Ibori had implicated the former president in a statement he (Ibori) had earlier made to the police, in which he made reference to the massive funding of the third term project.

Although it is still unclear what the failed third term project had to do with Ibori's current investigation in the UK, it is however not the first time a former governor will confess to massively funding the ill-fated tenure elongation bid of Obasanjo.

The nation was recently jolted when Ibrahim Saminu Turaki, former governor of Jigawa State confessed that he had spent over N10 billion of Jigawa State funds on the third term. Turaki, who did not mince words, said he made the money available through Andy Uba, a close aide of former President Obasanjo.

The EFCC promptly dismissed Turaki's claims, even as many Nigerians argued that the anti-graft commission ought to have investigated the claims made by the former two term governor of Jigawa state. Turaki is now a senator of the federal republic.

Since the demise of the third term, the nation has been inundated by revelations of the billions of naira expended on the project. The monies were largely drawn from state government coffers, as well as

huge donations by private business concerns, who were favoured by the Obasanjo government.

No formal probe into the financial transactions of the third term has been carried out yet, even though many Nigerians wish this will be done.

Meanwhile, Ibori's investigation in the UK is causing ripples in the anti-graft crusade in Nigeria. Although, some observers believe that the federal government was shielding him from prosecution, the perception is gradually changing with the increased cooperation by the Yar'Adua administration and the Metropolitan Police at dealing with the case in accordance with the regime stance on the rule of law.

Oh yes!  Like we do not know what the deal is between Ibori and OBJ? When London MetPol finish their "turenchi"--- the matter will die down in Nigeria.  I have long changed my mind about going after Ibori.  As long as IBB or OBJ or UBA or any other 3 letter looter is still alive and roaming free---Ibori and co are the least of our concerns because they were only doing what they were told by their "masters".

The British people should go and sit down somewhere!  Like the stolen money was not used to boost their economy?  Having invested and re-invested the loot, they are now playing holier than thou? Oh plzzzzzzzzzzzzz! They should also return the interest yielded from such savvy investments too!  Hooked-nosed robbers! angry

I am not surprise. The foolish old man only brought this upon himself.

IBB clevery has shown to the world what 'thief' OBJ is by massively sponsring him to win 1999 election.

OBJ has rubbished his image. He can never recover from this.

lesson to all others.

We aint seen nothing yet! This is just the beginning. As long as God is still on the throne, all deals done in secret against the people of Nigeria shall be exposed and the perpetrators brought to everlasting shame and condemnation.

You people are just taking this out of context. What is wrong if a former president is asked to provide a statement to help nail one of the governors in his administration?

was OBJ detained or arrested for illegal activities?

People and all this rumors . Kai

Was OBJ questioned as a witness or a suspect?

This is the critical question we need to ask, even Tony Blair was a guest of London Met after stepping down as Prime Minister.

Ibori is diverting attentions and Nigerians are literarily buying the gimmick. If Ibori is saying he used some of his loot to sponsor third term he is in essence agreeing to the fact that he diverted funds meant for development of Delta State.
Maybe he will show Deltans and Nigerians in general what aspect of the constitution compels him to divert state funds for the purpose of politicing.

Before it will be ascertained the destination of his loot he will be jailed first for money laundering which he is simply admiting, that is one thing Ibori is yet to figure out.
Re: Obj Questioned By London Police by babasin(m): 10:26am On Oct 22, 2007
Was OBJ questioned as a witness or a suspect?

Thats irrelevant. there is only 1 suspect on this case, IBORI.

anyother person questioned are just witness; just like AGF who send a written paper.

The fact that OBJ was questioned at all shows he is not clean; its a indirect indictment on him.
Re: Obj Questioned By London Police by McKren(m): 10:32am On Oct 22, 2007
And you don't know that any person mentioned, whether justly or unjustly, by a suspect facing investigation will be questioned to ascertain the veracity of such claims or otherwise.

That a man was questioned in the cause of someonelses investigation does not make him culpable.
These Governors are becoming desperate and are willing to use anything within their Arsenal to regain freedom.

All the Governors claiming they gave OBJ money for third term have forgotten that they need proof to implicate OBJ, they also forget that by making such claim they are simply admitting that they diverted funds meant for other purposes.
Re: Obj Questioned By London Police by babasin(m): 10:37am On Oct 22, 2007
All the Governors claiming they gave OBJ money for third term have forgotten that they need proof to implicate OBJ,

seems that you have short-memory; no offence.

The ex-plateau Governor; Dariye proof was very CLEAR.

OBJ issuesed a cheque to pay back the N100million Dariye gave to him. Atiku published this cheque.
Re: Obj Questioned By London Police by McKren(m): 11:00am On Oct 22, 2007
Atiku had cheques implicating everyone who opposed him then, He had cheque against OBj, when Osuntokun spoke he had cheque against him, when El-Rufai spoke he had cheque against him. I was literarily waiting for cheque implicating Gani Fawenhinmi in the PTDF saga cause they had cheque implicating everyone.

So even a fool knew what to make of Atiku's cheques.

If they produce cheques, they should remember that it can be verified by the court from Bank transaction history going from the Person's account to OBJ's account.

These Governors will do more than cheques to confirm that they released money to anyone at the instance of OBJ.
Re: Obj Questioned By London Police by McKren(m): 11:03am On Oct 22, 2007
Or do I need to remind you who have lasting memory that the case was investigated by NASS who recommended sanctions on Atiku and absolved OBJ of wrongdoing.

Re: Obj Questioned By London Police by IykeD1(m): 3:11pm On Oct 22, 2007
and I wish the governors luck, unless they have a tape recording of OBJ ordering
them where to divert the funds to. You don't get to be OBJ or at his level and not
know how to cover your tracks most especially if you are encouraging an illegal act.
In any case, these are positive developments.
