1. BB has all the news gathering apps, especially 'social feed' which can link all your feeds and RSS and social networks on one simple app which comes pre installed.
2. BIS is unlimited at N3k and as BB data is compressed so you find it difficult using 1gb - try watching 'youtube ' on an android or iPhone in Nigeria.
3. share information, you can cut and paste from most applications, word, emails, websites, apps and put them into any other app on the phone, ie copy from wikipedia and but it into an ordinary text message
_
Just point 2 will knock all other phones out. Unlimited data for only 3k.

For one you type 4x faster on a physical keypad.
I will advice you to go try out a touchscreen android smartphone with word prediction and word completion before u make such claims.

I think blackberry users in Nigeria need to borrow and use an android phone for a day to really understand what we're talking about. RIM is losing market share daily for a reason. They even had to integrate android into OS 10 so as to allow users run android apps. What does that tell u? Android is better than Blackberry QED.

However, if "pinging" is ur thing, please stay with blackberry.
Re: Blackberry Vs Android by mekaboy(m): 11:30pm On Mar 02, 2012
THE ONLY ADVANTAGES BB HAS IS

1, THE PIN SHARING, U CAN COMMUNICATE WITH PEOPLE WITHOUT GIVING OUT UR PHONE NUMBER, EMAIL ADDRESS OF FB ID.

2, THE INTERNET PLAN, U PAY ONCE A MONTH AND U CAN DO ALL U WANT.

THATS ALL

IF U HAVE UNLIMITED INTERNET PLAN ON ANDROID UR ON TOP OF THE WORLD.

IN TERMS OF APPLICATION, BB HAS NO APPLICATIONS IF U ASK ME

IN GAMES, ANDROID IS THE BOMB

I MEAN THERE IS NOT MUCH U CAN COMPARE WITH THE 2.

No comparison but na naija we dey. You can still get a bb.

Android OS is the only mobile OS that has facial recognition unlock. Imagine if your phone or tablet only unlocks when it sees your face.

I've got the galaxy nexus (the recently released ics), and trust me, I use it only as a fashion statement. All my day to day activities, emails, calls, browsing, are done with my 9900 bold touch.

That unlimited data you talk about only seem so due to blackberry's data compression technology. But as we all know, when u compress data, you lose quality. Try watching you-tube videos on a playbook hooked to a BIS enabled phone, then watch the same video on an android tablet or ipad. The same thing happens when you view a web page via opera mini as compared to a full web browser.
Bottom line, N3k per month for a 1gb data on an android device is adequate. However, I use the N7,500 6GB plan on my android device. When I get home, I turn on my wireless hotspot on the device and share the internet with my laptop and other devices. At the end of the month I usually still have like 500mb left.

Oh please! That's not true facial recog. Put a doll in front of it, so far as it's got an oval 'face', it 'recognises' it.

There's absolutely nothing like loss of quality. And bt dubs, that your 7500 monthly for 6Gb, I'll add 500 naira to it and get 3 months unlimited data. Beat that.

Both are smart phones, but of BB sales is reducing in the world, it is only booming in Nigeria where as Android phones sales are increasing globally day by day.
So, define your needs and let it guide you in selecting a phone

What are your business requirements for a SMART PHONE?
Requirements     Black Berry        Android
1 Push Email                                     Best Very         Good
2 Web browsing                                     Average        Very Good
3 Chatting using IM                             Very Good        Very Good
4 Business document processing apps    Very Good        Good
5 Battery power                                     Very Good        Good
6 App World                                     Few apps)        lots of apps
7 OS                                                     Good                Very Good
8 Software Flexibility                             Fair                Very Flexible
9 Popularity                                             Declining        Increase
10 Hardware                                             Good                Very Good (Various vendor offering)
11 Security                                             Good                Fair (without a good Antivirus)
12 Additional Ace                                     BB Messenger -
13 Gaming                                             Few games        Lots of Game from the App. Market

The Android is clearly a user friendly, multitasking and easily customizable device whereas BlackBerry is an unbeatable email platform that wirelessly synchronizes contacts, calendars and notes

The same bold touch 9900 that bricks itself if u mistakenly overcharge it? or the one that hardly gives u 6hours of constant use? Anyway your decision to use your galaxy nexus as a fashion statement is purely ur choice.

By the way why are we arguing about physical and virtual keypads? These features are common to both android and blackberry.

Good for you, but dowloading heavy data isn't my thing so don't need a bb. One of the main attactions of BB OS is data compression. One of the main attractions of the Android OS is its customization. There are several other attractions, pick what works for u.

@SimonAndal, stop telling blatant lies like a kid here. Windows is 3.3gb and ubuntu is roughly 700mb. How does that make 6gb? And besides, bb compresion rates is not that efficient. If you had said you used only 1.5-2gb to do that, then it's quite plausible.

Re: Blackberry Vs Android by Tinyemeka(m): 3:00am On Mar 03, 2012
I still haven't seen any argument convincing enough to make me dump my BB for an Android phone. I have a friend who uses an Xperia (isn't that an android fone?) But she hardly uses it for anything besides making calls and very rare browsing sessions in-between. Why? Because she gets charged for every single online activity.

With Glo Comonth at just N1,400 per month, I get to do all the browsing possible (Opera mini 6 is there to make my web-browsing more enjoyable with it's multi-tab function, so I can run as many "windows" as I like), download ANY song that comes to my head (I'm not lying), chat for free (I know that is not possible with non-RIM fones), I get all my apps and games from appworld. And I still get to have unused data at the end of the month. Someone said he has access to over 250,000 apps on android. Well how many do you actually have installed and use frequently?

Another guy was yabbing the BB for having 50% of its face covered by the QWERTY keyboard. I've played with someone's Android severally and yes it has powerful graphics, large keyboard-less touchscreen, e.t.c but what's the price of the phone? Now compare that with a BB of similar price and tell me which BB of 90k plus, still has a keyboard or drab performance?

Like I said earlier, I'm yet to be fully convinced on dumping my BB. So until Androids come with reasonably-priced phones and internet plans, they can keep their stuff.

Most of the arguments being made by the android guys somehow sound juvenile to me. Like kids with expensive toys. smiley Sorry.
Re: Blackberry Vs Android by Tinyemeka(m): 3:28am On Mar 03, 2012
Imagine the sort of advice beign given to this fellow who uses an android device: to shutdown automatic updates; close all running apps, bla bla bla. Then what's the point in claiming to have a fone that browses, when the only thing you are comfortable to do is just make calls?

www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-812208.0.html

And you guys tell me to dump BB for that crap? Who is deceiving who? Enjoy your phones. I'm enjoying mine.

I use a Samsung Galaxy Android Smartphone and its Awesome, but the fact is that in 9Ja here, The demand for social networking is high thats y many opt for a BB. I'm not into chatting a lot so i don't see y i need a BB.

BB users also benefit from Telecom Bundle plans. Samsung/Android OS owns 47% of the mobile market just so u all know.
Re: Blackberry Vs Android by Bossman(m): 4:42am On Mar 03, 2012
As far as being productive in a mobile device, the difference between BB and android/iphone is like day and night. BB is pretty much dead on this end. Anyone you see with a BB here, its likely a work phone. Heck! Even the federal govt., one of RIM's biggest client has started to shift to iPhone. That was a big nail on the BB coffin.
Re: Blackberry Vs Android by Bossman(m): 4:58am On Mar 03, 2012
Wanted to modify my post, but could not.

PS. I have HTC inspire, iphone4, BB curve, and Nokia E63. A few years ago, the nokia and BB were ok. But in today's web world, they just do not cut it as productivity tools. With my android/iphone I can pretty much do almost everything I do on the laptop.
Re: Blackberry Vs Android by dmainboss: 8:41am On Mar 03, 2012
This is like comparing apples and oranges. This kind of comparison can only make sense in Naija. The world is moving away from bb. The company is seriously under threat and they could go bankrupt anytime. The best smart phone is still Iphone followed by android before BB and the rest. A BB without pinging is just a nice java phone. BB does have many inconsistencies.

Many of the apps on BB appworld will not even install on all BBs. An app that will install on a bold might not install on a curve or storm. I have many apps from the appworld that wont run on my BB. That being said, in Naija, BB is very useful because more people have it and you can communicate like for free. Android has superb push email. Just set your sync settings. Android has apps for everything and is a superb game machine.

Android is the future. Except RIM will have to come up with some sort of magic. Internet connection will continue to improve in Naija and at a point, you will not need pinging anymore because a good internet connection will give you lots of chat options. Even on my BB, i do more of my chat on facebook and Ymessenger and gtalk, because BBM can be a real trouble when you have like over 300 peeps on. On Android, you can do skype and enjoy a world of free phone calls.

But my advice to you is, because of the Naija factor, you might still need a BB since many of your peeps will have one. But BB is certainly not the future. I knew that RIM would not catch up as soon as I saw the playbook. It was a real joke of a tab. The guy who supervised that project should be sacked.
Re: Blackberry Vs Android by LilMarshal1(m): 8:50am On Mar 03, 2012
Some of you saying BB has unlimited data plans but i ask you this, how much amount of data do you end up using ?? To be honest, Android has alot of advantages over BB. RIM just makes a slight difference in product and yall end up rushing and buying it calling it Bold 5 or Bold 6 but honestly, what is the difference. Most BB users i know are even sick of Their BBM and that was the only special IM it had over Android. I'am not trying to belittle BB but please dont compare them. For an average user like me, 1gb is absolutely enough for a month and 3000 is a fair price.

Shows how very limited ur knowledge of phones is. Not all SE Xperia phones are android. The X1 and X2 run winmo.

But she hardly uses it for anything besides making calls and very rare browsing sessions in-between. Why? Because she gets charged for every single online activity.

Everybody including bb users get charged for every single online activity. Don't pay ur bis and see if u can do anything. Tell ur friend to buy a data bundle.

Ever heard of the Huawei Gaga smartphone? Etisalat sells it for under N20k. Name one brand new bb you can buy for that price.

My brother don't mind these Nigerians who are so resistant to change. They were the ones who refused to accept fuel injected vehicles over carburetors, They said automatic cars were not good because you can't push start it, and front wheel drive was bad because of the CV joint, but today they've all dropped their Peugeot 504 for Toyotas and Nissans. Those of us with insight will always make the move to better technology and wait for the others to play catch up.

I know this topic is not about symbian but since we're talking about smartphones I think I should digress a little bit.

I use Nokia 701 running symbian belle and all the android fans I've come across have not been able to give me cogent reasons why android is better. But on the other hand I always give them baffling reasons

Re: Blackberry Vs Android by amblors(m): 1:31pm On Mar 03, 2012
So i've followed this discussion n i'm goin my input now:
som1 questioned the logic behind having a physical keyboard, thats so old school.
i think its drying pretty fast, n manufacturers opt for the slide keyboard instead, to give "large screen junkies" a treat.
i like a 2.4 - 2.6 inch screen so i'm fine n would always prefer a physical front facing keyboard.
Samsung,HTC have a couple of em, but BB n Nokia seem to the the major brands kipin it alive.

back to the topic:
BB v Android

devices n OS would always get compared
but for a user, wot matters first is what you want from a device:
make your choice according to you needs:

i've used a friends android a lil, when i was still using a Nokia E75, the browser on there put the browser on my Nokia to shame, n i was getting pretty frustrated by the Nokia browser,so that only infuriated me.
I used the android just for a while, and can only say the browser is superb, the OS looks very clean compared to Symbian, but then again, Nokia might hav upped its game with the new OS roll outs.

i'm sure you can do emailing on any devices, hell, my Nokia did it well, i got my mails on my device, n you don't need a special (Enterprise) subscription to get you company's emails.

but it generally acccepted the BB is a MESSAGING king, so if thats you desire you go for it

Android they say has a great App store, there's junk on there too, but also quality, if youre an APP freak thats for you, coz the BB has limited apps, a very small amount.

If you a GAMING freak, go for the Android.

if you're Mr PIN, go for BB, if you don't mind using third party chat apps like WHATSAPP, then you could as well go for the ANDROID as the app runs on most platforms.

Android generally has dismal battery life i hear, some BB fones suffer from this too, e.g. Bold 9900, but generally BB fones are betta

The BROWSING experience in the Android is better than in BB, though i could make an argument that browsing on the bold 9900 is pretty close.

DATA: the Android is a consumer, BB has good data plans in NAIJA, so if you are a heavy DATA user, BB wins, except you don't mind n have the cash to burn on ur Android.

PROCESSING SPEED: ANDROID definitely wins this. They're lots of DUAL-CORE android devices in the market with QUADCORE devices bin rumored, so if SPEED is your thing GO FOR ANDROID as the BB doesn't have a DUAL-CORE device yet.

In General Android wins, BUT
when you consider what you want from your phone, take into consideration the price of ur choice device n if it meets those needs.
you're a browsing/data consumption junkie n ur on a budget n in naija,
the blackberry should be your choice.

if you don't use the NET, you don't care for push emails n ur an app junkie - Android all the way.
