Award-winning Nigerian singer, Davido has taken a new turn in the Nigerian entertainment industry by branching into movies.

The singer was seen in a new Nollywood movie where he played the role a highly skilled commercial pilot which happens to be the younger character of the lead actor, who’s an oil mogul.

This seems to be the trend in Nigerian music industry as the likes of BankyW, Ikechukwu, Vector, 2Baba and much more have tested the acting water and now Omo Baba Olowo has joined the list, but not forgetting to remain the Olowo that he is.

Another Nigerian singer that star in this movie is Majek Fashek whose music career Davido tries to revive.

A young Nigerian blogger, Oluwafeyidara Adekoya has met her untimely death just two days to the new year after she was crushed to death by a vehicle on the 30th December while trying to escape from two suspected robbers at Anthony bus stop in Lagos state.
 
One of the hoodlums was wounded in the accident, which happened at midnight.
 
According to The Nation, the late Oluwafeyidara Adekoya was returning from church when the motorcycle riding hoodlums pounced on her. As they attempted to dispossess her of her bag and phones, she raised alarm and took to her heels.
 
However, the hoodlums chased after her before an oncoming vehicle ran them over. The rider escaped, but the hit-and-run driver ran over  his accomplice and Adekoya.
 

 
A witness, who gave his name as Uche,  said: “She died on the spot. The other robber was unconscious but he was stabilised by the Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS), that came to the scene with officials from LASEMA.
 
“She was waiting to take a bus and a bike with a passenger appeared. They struggled to rob her and she raised the alarm. A vehicle later came and ran into them. While the rider rode away, the lady and one of the robbers were hit. The lady died while the guy was critically injured.
 
“The suspect was moved to the hospital. I did not get his name but the lady was said to be a journalist with In-Situ Media.”
 
LASEMA General Manager Adesina Tiamiyu said the injured suspect had been handed over to the police.
 
He said: “Yes there was an accident involving a young woman and a man. They were knocked down by a vehicle. The woman died on the spot. We found the man unconscious and resuscitated him. He was taken to Gbagada General Hospital.
 

 
“We were told the man was a robbery suspect and that he and his accomplice had attempted to rob the lady before they were knocked down by a vehicle. So, we handed over the man to the police for further action.”
 
But police spokesman Chike Oti, a Superintendent of Police (SP), said the police were investigating a hit-and-run case and not robbery.
 
Oti said: “I confirm there was an accident. A woman was killed and a young man sustained injury. There was no robbery. We are investigating a case of hit-and-run because the driver fled.”
 

 
A relative, Munir Adebayo Ajisebutu wrote a short tribute on Facebook saying: “Goodbye Niece as your life was cut short by one chance and aided by hit and run vehicle. May your gentle soul rest in the bosom of the Lord.

A young man identified as Jude Chukwuemeka Icon is filled with joy after surviving a motor accident in Ebonyi state.

According to him, he and his sister were traveling back from Ebonyi state university before their bus had an accident and somersaulted mulitple times as they landed in a bush along a road in Abakaliki, the state capital.

He and other passengers came out of the crash alive without even a single injury. Below is what he shared on Facebook;

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, has ordered that a businessman, Ani Paulinus Onyeka, should forfeit $700,000 out of the $1, 909,140 he laundered, to the FG.

Onyeka who was accused of laundering $1, 909,140 in 2014, decided to entered into a plea bargain arrangement with EFCC.

EFCC had filed a two count-charge against Onyeka, over his failure to declare the sum of $1, 909,140, which he laundered from the Republic of Congo, to the men of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) at the Lagos Airport.

The defendant disclosed in his statement that the money was given to him by one, Ikechukwu Frank, for onward delivery to one Jude Okoye.

The Presiding judge, Rilwan Aikawa, ordered that the businessman should forfeit $700, 000 to the FG, out of the seized money and that the remaining sum of $1, 209, 140 should be released to him.

Tragedy occurred at Umuaka bridge, Orlu road of Imo State after a tanker loaded with Kerosene fell, caught fire and claimed the lives of all passengers in a bus.
The incident reportedly occurred this afternoon after a collision between the 18-seater commercial bus going from Orlu to Owerri, Imo State and the truck conveying kerosene whose driver lost control of its brake, leaving about 20 people dead.

The Nigerian Air Force, NAF, Council has announced the promotion of its spokesperson and 49 senior officers to higher ranks.

According to a statement issued on Monday by Bassey Okon, a wing commander of the Directorate of Public Relations & Information, the promotion exercise was conducted to motivate Air Force personnel towards serving the nation diligently.

“The Air Council has today, November 20, 2017, approved the promotion of 50 senior officers, comprising 22 air commodores and 28 group captains, to the next higher ranks in the Nigerian Air Force, NAF”, the statement reads.

The statement noted that the promotions are in line with one of the key drivers of the vision of the Chief of the Air Staff, Sadique Abubakar, an air marshal, which is to promote and inculcate the core values of integrity, excellence and service delivery among NAF personnel.
“As an annual exercise, the NAF undertakes promotion exercise to motivate officers and men towards rededicating themselves to assigned duties and service to the nation”.

“It is noteworthy that the exemplary and selfless sacrifice of late Air Commodore Adanu Ochai was recognized and rewarded by the CAS through his posthumous promotion”, NAF said

For her Beauty with a Purpose project (a registered charity and a non-profit organisation associated with Miss World to raise money for humanitarian projects across the world), her initiative was called Project Shakti. Super Eagles of Nigeria shared N17.3 million after the international friendly win over South American giants, Argentina in Russia on Tuesday.

The Super Eagles beat Argentina 4-2 in the grade A friendly played in Russia.

According to Sportinglife, the players received $2,000 each for the win as that is the flat rate agreed with them as match bonus in friendly games.

According to the report, the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, are already considering organising more high profile international friendly games before the World Cup in Russia to boost their financial powers.

The government has create a cabinet committee to research the circumstances of the death of 26 teenage Nigerian migrant girls found dead in the Mediterranean in early November.

Siblings of a 12-year-old girl have watched in horror as a giant crocodile snatched the girl while she was fetching water.

A 12-year-old girl is missing after being attacked by a crocodile on the Philippine island of Palawan, police said Saturday.

According to AFP this comes just weeks after a similar incident in the region popular with foreign tourists. It was gathered that the victim was fetching water in a heavily-forested area of the island Thursday when a crocodile dragged her away in front of her horrified siblings, a police report said.

A search is underway but the coast guard and police are yet to find any sign of the child.

It marks the second crocodile attack in Palawan in less than a month.

A woman, also fetching water, was bitten in October but managed to escape after her niece drove the crocodile away by throwing rocks, police said.

Prof. Rahaman Bello, outgoing Vice-Chancellor of the institution, confirmed this at a forum with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

Bello said that the initiative was necessary because drug abuse was on the increase in the nation’s tertiary institutions.

“Drug abuse is a major problem for every institution, particularly, those in the cities. We have gone ahead in the University of Lagos to address it.

“With the test kit, anyone who is suspected, his or her urine or blood depending on what we want to do, is collected for test.
“The thing about drug is that when you take it, it will be in your blood for a long time, so you cannot say , I did not use it once the test kit detects it.
“Before, we start using the test kit, everyone we picked denied using drug since we could not find any evidence,” he said.

According to him, with the test kit, the university has been able to pin down victims, but granted them amnesty.

He said that although the university’s regulation provided that any student found dealing with drug should be expelled, the management had to warn and rehabilitate them.

“With the rehabilitation, the victims are given two or three semesters to ‘get clean’. By this, we mean they will visit the medical centre on monthly basis to get tested.
“If after two or three visits, you are found clean, we will admit you back to the system, if not you are sent out.
“This we do not to unnecessarily punish them, but to assist them to find a way to regain themselves,” he said.

Bello said that about 100 students of the university were detected to be using hard drugs in 2016.

Sources that know both Justin and Selena told TMZ that Selena's medical emergency, which resulted in her getting a kidney transplant due to complications from Lupus, are what sparked Justin to make up with her.

"Bieber didn't know how much she still meant to him until he realized she could die," a source told TMZ, "That made all the difference."

One other source said that "Selena had to be won over" by Justin.

On Thursday, news broke that Selena and Justin reportedly got back together after her separation from The Weeknd. Selena and Justin had been off-and-on over the years before she got with The Weeknd. Selena had also been seen going out together more than once lately, having gone for coffee and bike rides.

Obviously, none of this has been officially commented on by Justin or Selena. So it's best to keep rumours to a minimum until we hear from them in person.

Rapper Fetty Wap was arrested in Manhattan, New york city, this morning for allegedly drunk driving.

As outlined by New York’s Pix 11, the rapper was driving too fast on the Gowanus Expressway in Brooklyn at about 1 a.m, when the officers of the New York Police Department caught up with him. He reportedly gave the police officers an expired New Jersey driver’s license when they pulled him over, and when they carried out a sobriety check on him, he failed.

The officers hauled him to jail in which he has now been slammed with 15 charges, including reckless endangerment, drag racing, driving under the influence, driving without a valid license, unsafe lane changing, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, following too close, and speeding.

This is the very first time the rapper, who was robbed in March, would be arrested for drunk driving. It is uncertain what the punishment would be if he is arraigned and found guilty by a court.

The United States President Donald Trump on Thursday had his Twitter account temporarily deactivated by a Twitter employee.

Trump’s account was down for approximately 11 minutes, causing people to think he had deleted his account or had been hacked.

A visit to the @realDonaldTrump profile would result in the “Sorry this page doesn’t exist!” page.

After the account returned on, Twitter released a statement stating:

EARLIER TODAY @REALDONALDTRUMP’S ACCOUNT WAS INADVERTENTLY DEACTIVATED DUE TO HUMAN ERROR BY A TWITTER EMPLOYEE. THE ACCOUNT WAS DOWN FOR 11 MINUTES, AND HAS SINCE BEEN RESTORED. WE ARE CONTINUING TO INVESTIGATE AND ARE TAKING STEPS TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN.

Soon after, the @TwitterGov account released another statement saying the account had been deleted by an employee on his last day, possibly meaning that it was done on purpose.

A court order was given of which the deadline is tomorrow and, banks have been gripped with anxiety over fear of a major liquidity crisis.

Justice Dimgba Igwe of the Federal High Court, ruling on an ex parte application filed by the Federal Government through the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation on October 21, granted the temporary forfeiture of cash – bank accounts without BVN – within two weeks unless the owners justify their ownership of such accounts.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) might, at the expiration of the deadline, compel the 21 commercial banks to provide a status report on non-BVN-linked accounts in their books. When that happens, the banking sector liquidity may suffer as lenders begin to return un-linked funds to government coffers.

 The Vice-President, West African Pan African Lawyers Union (PALU), Emeka Obegoru, said (according to The Nation) that if there was no suit challenging the court ruling, the banks will have to produce a full list of their customers without BVN.
The Director-General of the West African Institute for Financial and Economic Management (WAIFEM) Prof. Akpan Ekpo agreed with Obegoru. He said if neither the banks nor individuals complained and the timeline elapsed, the government must find a way to get the funds from the lenders. He said failure to comply meant the banks will have to tell the court why they could not produce the list.

 He highlighted that many people with skeletons in their cupboards still refused to enrol on the BVN network because it will expose their illicit financial dealings.
He, however, said it would remain an uphill task for the government to trace the funds, given that the banks are more likely to protect their customers.

“I think it will turn a money spinner for whistleblowers as government pressures the banks to get the true position of key accounts without BVN,” he said.

Ekpo said lenders could collude with high net-worth customers or politically exposed persons without BVN or accounts not linked to BVN to ensure their financial dealings are not exposed.
Former Executive Director, Keystone Bank, Richard Obire said for now, neither banks nor civil society groups had challenged the ex parte judgment, hence leaving the implementation of the ruling at the discretion of the Federal Government.

 He said where the funds involved were large enough, the liquidity of the banking sector might be threatened as more cash leave to government coffers.
“If the funds leave the banks to government coffers, the affected lenders may suffer liquidity challenges depending on the level of their customers’ involvement,” he said.

Principal Counsel at Eze & Associates, Chukwuemeka Eze said, “The person has to prove where he was, and why he was not able to enrol on the BVN network. It will be based on individuals making case for themselves when the timeline expires tomorrow,” he said.

“When the banks come under serious pressure as the implementation begins, which is likely, they will have to call for a Bankers’ Committee meeting to decide on how to approach the dilemma. But there are still going to be some exceptions, such as Nigerians in Diaspora and those serving long prison sentences,” he said.

Eze said the government had to be careful in implementing the court order, as it had the capability of causing economic dislocation. The real targets, according to him, are people who open accounts with fake names to hide fraudulently obtained wealth.

The 2017 edition of Calabar Carnival in Cross River State is set to be an amazing one billed to thrill party goers in few weeks as U.S rap mogul, Rick Ross, has been announced as the headliner. 

American Rapper, William Roberts II, a.k.a Rick Ross, Tuface, and Tekno will perform at the Calabar Carnival scheduled for December 26.

Ikobi Ikobi, a Commissioner in the Cross River Carnival Commission in charge of media, disclosed this on Wednesday in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Calabar.
 
Mr. Ikobi said that the carnival, which has the theme, “Migration’’, had been designed to thrill fun seekers who would visit Calabar with life musical entertainment.
 
“For now, we have sealed a deal with Rick Ross; He is expected to be in Calabar on December 26 to perform in the carnival. We are still talking with other international artistes that will also perform.
 
“We have contacted some artistes in Nigeria; the likes of Innocent Idibia popularly known as Tuface, Tekno, Inyanya and others.
 
“As we all know, the first dry run of the carnival was held on October 22 and it was a success. I want to assure tourists coming into the city of Calabar that the 2017 carnival will be fantastic,’’ he said.
 
In a separate interview, the state Commissioner for Information, Rosemary Archibong, told NAN that the Calabar carnival was an annual robust event filled with diverse activities.
 
Mrs. Archibong said that the theme of the carnival was chosen by Gov. Ben Ayade, in recognition of the plight of Africans that are forced to migrate out of Africa in search of greener pasture, food and help.
 
“Most times, we see our people trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea and in the process, many lives are lost and this informed the choice of the theme.
 
“It is hoped that this carnival will bring back the thought of our leaders to good leadership in Africa.
 
“We will have different interpretations of the theme from five competing bands and it is going to be extremely entertaining, thought-provoking and mentally engaging.
 
“We are also going to have the cultural carnival, and I can assure tourists that the smart city of Calabar is set for the carnival,’’ she said.
 
The commissioner said that smart city wireless internet connection (wifi) had been added to the carnival with a view to connecting tourists to free internet use.
 
“It is going to be the celebration of the biggest street party in Africa.
 
“When tourists come in for the show, we don’t want them to start looking for where to buy data; all we want them to do is just to get their Wifi on and get connected to the world.
 
“This 2017 celebration is going to be a time of absolute ecstasy because we will also have the international carnival and more countries have registered to be in Calabar already.’’
 
Mrs. Archibong assured tourists coming in for the annual event of adequate security, saying that the state government was working in collaboration with security agencies in the state to ensure a peaceful celebration.
