what's all the fuss about.

It beats me to see people reasoning dust.

Is it too difficult to understand that a computer can mark 1million computer processed scripts in less than a day? Or that the technical department in jamb can upload 1million results in less than 2 hours. Same database from registration to marking, to upload and result checking.

The part that amazes me is how someone who claims to be wise will postulate jamb...joint admission and matriculation board exam to be 3 times a year, just because he has failed it over 20 times.

Cant defend the fact that their marking may have error, because in my time, they increased my result by 30 after some months.

The truth is admission into univeristy is in sessions. If jamb iss 3 times a year, then admission is 3 times a year. Then what happens to old students. Think logically b4 spitting trash.

Such system is only obtainable in parttime or in a situation of harmatan session, spring, winter and co.

How do the OMR reader works ?
Re: How Did Jamb Manage To Release Results In 3 Days by HAH: 9:18pm On Apr 05, 2012
What is OMR?
Optical Mark Recognition, also called Mark Reading (“mark sensing”). Through the technology of OMR a simply and reasonable method of entering data by document into a computer system is enable. Optical Mark Reading (OMR) is one of the fastest and safest method for data-entry into a host until today.

How does it work?

A pen or pencil mark is made in pre-defined positions at the document to indicate each selected response (for example: answers to a survey question or an absent pupil in a school register).
The complete forms are scanned by the Optical Mark Reader which detects the presence of a mark by measuring reflected light levels. The reader interprets this pattern marks and spaces into a data record and transmits it to your computer for storage, analysis and reporting.

What are the main advantages of OMR-Technology?

simplicity: “Tick box answers” are marked with a by pen or pencil
functionality: the OMR-Reader scans the form, detect the presence of marks and passes information to the computer
speed: OMR-Readers can read up to 9,000 forms DIN A4 per hour
flexibility: OMR-readers tests for plausibilities and transmit the processed information to the computer with up to 38,400 Baud.
The interpretation based on a simple “Yes/No” answer.
When to use OMR-readers?

on applications where other entering possibilities are not present
if a large volume of data has to be collected and processed within a short period of time
if the persons who have to collect the data are not regular computer users
if information mainly comprises the selection of categories or “Tick box answers” to multiple choice questions
Where do the OMR-readers work?

examinations at schools, colleges and universities
public opinion polls of research institutes
assessment tests
counting of votes
staff opinion surveys
What is possible?

Barcode
OCR
Double document recognition
Print on the form
Sorting with two pockets
What kind of equipment do I need?

  a computer with serial interface
the appropriate software for your application made by Binary Logic
  specially designed forms

wirinet: I am very disappointed that some people just write without first thinking deeply at issues logically, that is why government, religious leaders and those in power lead us like goats.

How can anybody say that a manual exam can be collated, processed, checked and uploaded within 3 days in a country like Nigeria. It would be difficult even in advanced countries.

Now let's analyze the logistics involved;

1. Jamb is held on a Saturday morning, so most of the answer sheets would get to the state collation points in the capital by evening, assuming perfect transportation logistics.

2. If each state capital has a processing centre then processing can start simultaneously in all state capitals. Even though the marking is processed mechanically, the machines have to be fed manually with the marking sheets, somewhat like a printer or a 201 printing machine. Now considering that each of the 1.5 candidates has four answer sheets, that brings the total number of answer sheets to 6millions. some states like lagos has over 80,000 candidates with like 320,000 answer sheets. So even is the machine can process 1 answer sheet per second, and assuming flawless manual feedings, no power outages, no paper jams in machine, etc, we can assume the answer sheets would be processed in 320,000 seconds, which is 88.88 hours (appoximately 4 days).

3. Then all the results from the states have to be uploaded onto Jambs central server. Considering the speed and capacity of our broadband,(when even checking results can take days), we can safely assume that uploading the results can take a whole day.

So in the most efficient Scenario, it would take at least 5 days working round the clock.

If all the results are collated at one central point, it would even take more time.

So can someone who is more knowledgeable, provide us with the logisics of releasing the result in 3 days.

ALL YOUR LOGISTICS ARE ANALYSED JUST FOR ONE MARKING MACHINE. IMAGINE A CASE OF 5O MACHINES.

IT IS Possible!

Listen guys, all centres around Abuja, deliver their papers to jamb same day, and marking commences. Those outside Abuja all get to Abuja lattest Sunday evening. The are omr forms and the scanning machine can scan upto 50k answer sheet per hr. all things been equal. Don't worry soon, you will all get your jamb results in seconds after u submit
