Just 0.1 only, chei, had it been u succeded in copying that guy's work it would have landed you in other side but as it's now it can't be reversed. Sorry my dear, the deed has been done. Next time u have to be fast in copying but if u insist in knowing ur fate, u can ask the NLC Chairman. |

ishmael: @Mollytinrox: I disagree with u on ur previous post. The labour in nigeria looks at the certificate and grade more than skills. If not, can u explain why polytechnic HND graduates with skills are not considered in most cases, even when it is obvious that they posses the skills employers want?mr man make i hear word. Designing skills and repairing skills is not the same my dear. It's like knowing the external without the knowledge of internal aspect. Don't compare HND with Bachelors degree pls. |

@op your ability to deliver is what matters in the job market. I came out witha almost same grade u have but m working in a good establishment. I will advice dat you look a job n do ur masters same time, developing yourself n getting experience is very important n vital if u want to get a job in todays market. |
Re: Any Hope With 3.49 CGPA? by GboyegaD(m): 7:02pm On May 19, 2012 |
They have said it all. Your degree is not the determinant to your success. All I would advise is that you put yourself together and forge ahead. The only thing the degree class does for you is to give you more options of where to apply to but what gets you the job is how intelligent you are as such focus more on your inate ability than your class of degree. |
Re: Any Hope With 3.49 CGPA? by tlops(m): 7:08pm On May 19, 2012 |
Guy, brace up and wake up to reality. You had a 2.2 and that is not the end of life. you could have had "oriyomi" 2.1 and that in itself could put you in complacency. At least you know you have to enhance your chances. what do you think employers are looking for in a 2.1? do you think they'll prefer a "3.50" 2.1 over a "4.49" 2.1? You'll still get chance to interview and that is when you have to prove yourself. I feel your plight and I know you can still shine. its up to you!!! |
Re: Any Hope With 3.49 CGPA? by ayonuga(m): 7:09pm On May 19, 2012 |
Dude, any cgpa doesn't guarantee that a person will get the best of jobs. As an HR professional, I've seen numerous applications of people with the best of grades but during interview you realize they have just "book knowledge". In Nigeria, life outside school is way different from life in school. I have 2 friends that graduated with 3rd class, they didn't let that get to them-they went for graduate internships abroad(seek for information and take advantage of them) and believe me 3 years after graduation they were blessed-one works for Ecowas (abuja)as a Talent Manager, the other works for GSK as an Assistant Brand manager. They could only achieve this cause of determination and hard work. I think a big mistake alotta students make is while in school, they don't engage in extra curricular activities like involving themselves with meaningful student orgs that help develop you professionally & personally (sometimes academically too). Don't beat yourself over it, personally I think its the least thing you should worry about. To say there's so much hope is an understatement. |

Okoya: All my efforts ended with a CGPA 3.49..... what'sThis is my exact GPA, a point from 2 1. You know what, I got a job the month I passed out from service. Its not really about what's on paper but what you have upstairs. Go out without a depressed look and get the job of your dream. Show whatever interviewer you face, the stuff you are made of. I am away from my PC, if not I would have uploaded a scan of my result. |

Ppl cud rily b silly. 'Wud ur cgpa put food on ur table or guarantee u a good job' 'I made it without setting my foot on any higher institution'...blah blah blah...rubbish! Is it everybody dt wud make it without using dia CGPA?? Dis is hw youths of nowadays re discouraged from hardwrk esp academic-wise since dia re oda shortcuts (scams and 'personal devpt') whereas d literacy and future of d society is at risk. Abroad, many academics are well-paid because der is always a place of research and applying it to improve human existence (wc we fail to do in Naija wen evritin is 'la cram, la pour, la forget')...my point Free d poster joor...it's only him dt knws wat the 3.5 wud mean to him @op...I feel bad for u sha...bur ur lecturers wicked oo...Wish u da best in lyf endeavours.. |

Very sorry about this. For sure, you must feel this pain! I work in a university. I always go against this kind of grade for students during departmental board meetings for results consideration. I cannot tell you how many students fall into this borderline and how many I have helped! You were just 0.01 point away from 2.1 Any reasonable lecturer will draw attention to your case and talk in your favour. But that is passed now. You can still be all you want if you are bold and intelligent. There are still many jobs(maybe not well paying) that still demands 2.2. Once you have experience on your side, the sky becomes ur matching ground! If you dropped your email, I will send you list of recruitment agent websites with jobs of 2.2. |

crackhouse: mr man make i hear word. Designing skills and repairing skills is not the same my dear. It's like knowing the external without the knowledge of internal aspect. Don't compare HND with Bachelors degree pls.Don't make urself look ignorant here. Are HND accontancy graduates not better than Bsc accounting graduates in nigeria? Internally and externally they are better than the Bsc graduates; and it has been proven to be statistically significant in favor of the HND graduates. So don't condemn them. And for ur info i have passed thru both schools and i am speaking from the researched truth and not assumption. |

Wanted to reply you for some time but I have been a bit busy. I want to tell you that if you have goals, plans and focus, then with your 3.49 CGPA there is a hope and life. The first thing you need to do is to drop the mentality which I presume you have now- One which is defeatist, one which radiates a certain sense of hopelessness and certainly backward. You can not move forward with a backward mentality. It is important you plan the rest of your life around goals which you know you have gifts for. And a desire for. Have a dream and work towards if. Leverage on your strengths and try to maximise everything you know you have strengths in. I'll give you a brief of my story. I was in the same shoes as you, slightly the same, some couple of years ago. I had thought the world had ended as I did not get exactly the grade everyone believed I would get (including myself). I felt as if my world had shattered. But God was and is till using that to teach me useful life's lessons. The grade on paper said something different, but I had a first class mentality and I believed I had first class brain as well. I worked with my strengths and my purpose. By the grace of God, I did my service in an engineering multinational which I got there by merit, was retained after that. But I declined the retention, got the opportunity for a masters outside Nigeria, finished successfully. By then I had a first class international mentality. Out there, the western world looks less on paper and more on the stuff you can bring to their organisation. I had an interview/assessment where I was the only black that made it to the finals (with my Nigerian degree that looked unacceptable as you feel now), and at the end of the event, I was given an applause by my fellow interviewees and the assessors. All foreigners. Aside career, there are other useful and impactful things I am also doing because I moved quickly away from a loosing mentality. I would say here that it would never, ever had been possible without the Holy Spirit. Pls am a Christian. Just to encourage you @poster. If you can afford it go for a foreign masters in a specialist course and ensure you don't get carried away. Gather professional qualifications along the way. Engage in youthful team building activities. Improve your public speaking and presentation skills. Develop useful interview skills. Regardless of your degree class, grab any opportunity you meet with strong open hands. But above all, ensure that you change any defeatist mentality you may have now. You will lose a fight without even entering a flight with a defeatist mentality. Be rest assured that even with a 1st class, you are in a fight. You'll be fine, I know. God bless you. 3 Likes |

If you are talking of hope in terms of getting a job, you have great hope! The only bad grade is 3rd class. If you have not gone for nysc, get a gmat and study it thoroughly during your service. While others are drinking and chasing skirts, marry your gmat. After your service, you need to be online everyday. Most banks employ 2.1 and 2.2, but you have to be online everyday so you dont miss application deadlines. Gatecrash tests. Join job forums like nairaland and others. You will surely get a good job IF you are online everyday. There are jobs out there, but people dont get them because they are not usually aware. I was not online in the last three days, and I missed gatecrashing unity bank test yesterday. I am sad right now. So, information ( knowing when jobs are out and applying) is the key, not your grade. |
