Elrufai Denies Obasanjo!

Renowned Obasanjo boy and controversial former minister of the FCT, Malam Nasir Elrufai, has denied ever being an Obj boy. He denied the former President today on a posting on his twitter profile.

Nigerians may recall that Nasir Elrufai was one of the arrowheads of an administrative panel set up by then President Obasanjo to investigate then Vice President Atiku Abubakar. The panel eventually found Atiku Abubakar (who was Elrufai's former benefactor) guilty. The panel submitted that money was laundered from the PTDF to procure the Globacom licence. The panel was said to have confronted Atiku with incriminating documents. It questioned Atiku on the coincidence of Adenuga’s payment of the 10 per cent deposit required for Globacom’s licence shortly after ETB received the PTDF deposit. The panel also questioned Atiku on how Otunba Oyewole Fashawe, believed to be Atiku’s business associate and an estranged friend of Obasanjo, was able to secure over N700 million loan from TIB shortly after the bank secured the PTDF’s deposit. Atiku was also questioned about Fashawe's donation of a building to ABTI Academy owned by Atiku.

Elrufai was also famously a member of Obasanjo's kitchen cabinet and during the last days of the Obasanjo administration, Nuhu Ribadu, the former EFCC Chairman, described El-Rufai as the "de facto No. 2 official", tagging him with the role of a Vice-President, especially after the fall-out between the former President and his Vice-President. It is believed that Obasanjo's trust and confidence in El-Rufai angered a vast number of the political elite within the country. Indeed, it was widely believed that the former President was considering blessing EL-Rufai as his successor.

This will not be the first time Elrufai would move against Obasanjo. He had earlier this year claimed that his new found political master, Major General (Rtd) Buhari, is better than Obasanjo
