Our nation is suffering from social pollution that is destroying its morality. We focus on being "Green". We are bent on saving our planet by being green. Green is the new advertising slogan for companies. We see it everywhere. Pollution is our targeted enemy whether it's our carbon footprint, coal, oil, impurities in our water, plastic bags, or our vile landfills.

We fear and fight this onslaught of pollution that we think is destroying us, but we ignore the pollution that truly is destroying us. It's called social pollution. This pollution is infecting our social streams and atmosphere. We breathe it in constantly and drink it daily. Our children not only are afflicted by it, they are increasingly addicted to it. Its effects are evident and frightening. It will destroy us if we don't take action. While we fight off the fox, the social pollution bear sneaks up behind us.

What is this pollution? Some of it is subtle, some explicit. There is a blurring between morality and immorality where right is portrayed as wrong, and wrong as right. A contestant on a major game show says, "I would definitely rob a bank if I knew I wouldn't get caught." The audience smiles and muses over the statement. Lying is portrayed as something that is ok if you can get away with it. Animated children show disregard for adults, disrespect, and a satirical adult view of their child world. TV and movie writers strain to conjure up new twists on violent and horrible crime scenarios. A program has a line about cannibalism and that babies taste the best. Another program has a basic theme of a man whose total life objective is over-use of alcohol and exploiting women. His young nephew who lives with him shows clever insight into these things beyond his years, and that becomes a main "hook" for the humor engine that drives the show's success. But the message to children who watch is that the ideal life is booze and women.

Young people spend hours daily drinking from the polluted waters of the internet, their parents glad they are home and apparently interested in something. In spite of internet filters, the kids enter a wasted world of sex, foul language, depraved interchange, and perversion. They can type any word into the standard search engines and see pictures and descriptions of anything they choose. Sexual predators try to entice unknowing young people. These predators are the product of years of drinking from these socially polluted streams. Young children watch TV commercials about

Celebrities are hoisted up on the shoulders of society as heroes and heroines, even though they live lives of wanton self destruction and disregard for even basic moral principles. They flaunt their celebrity status and care little for the damage they might be doing to young people watching and mimicking their life activities.

Can we see damage from social pollution? Are we getting sick from its waters and breathing its air? Ask any school teacher. These are generalizations, but here are disturbing trends they see. There is less respect for adults than there one was? Young children no longer fear authority or respect it. They cheat whenever they can get away with it? They lie easily and professionally. Kindergarteners and first graders use dramatically foul language or talk about explicit sexual subjects? Teenage boys wear clothes covered with vile words. We see an increase in unbelievably horrible crimes? We have more and more men who have grown up drawn to easily-accessible pornography and who care for little other than their next sexual encounter. We feel a need to access the map showing where the convicted sexual predators live in our neighborhood. Is it increasingly rare to find someone you can really trust to be honest and truthful? If someone finds something that another has lost, we are genuinely surprised if they return it, not if they don't?

How bad can it get? We became aware of the consequences of physical pollution and realized that if trends continued, our air and water would become poisonous and unusable. We began to fix the problem and continue to do so to save ourselves. It took awhile, but people are bought in and committed to making us green. What about the trend in social pollution? For decades, social pollution has affected our society. If people who died in the 1960's came back for awhile, they would be absolutely astounded at the decay in our morals and the behavior of our society. There must be some limit to the direction we're heading, but it gets progressively worse. Again, how bad can it get?

Social pollution manifests itself as a fear-filled, chaotic society. Relationships based on lying and cheating cannot have positive results. Dishonesty causes mistrust that destroys the effectiveness of schools, universities, the work place, and our fundamental institutions. Lack of respect for authority breeds disorder and chaos. Worship of sex destroys marriages and relationships, and fosters sexual crime. Crime breeds fear and mistrust.

Green is good. But while we passionately fight to make our physical world better, a worse enemy is creeping up on us, eating at the roots of our society, and bringing its destructive results. As a people, we need to become passionate about being "green" in countering social pollution. People need to take personal responsibility to fight social pollution just as they recycle, buy green, or make the green choice in everything they do. That's the only way we'll survive. If we don't, then there will be no need to save our planet, because its people will self-destruct.

I am willing to bet $10,000 that you're a hypocrite. All warriors of morality are hypocrites. Morality is subjective.

You want to compare this present times to the 1960's?
You want to compare the blatant discrimination in the 1960's to today? Ask any successful minority how they made it in the past. As someone who has elder relatives from. Nigeria, America and the UK, can tell you that discrimination in the past was 10 times worse. A black man studying in university in UK or US could be lynched for dating a white woman in the 70's. A black man/minority had to prove that he was not a product of affirmative action or that he was 2x better than his fellow co workers. What about Nigeria? What about the rampant tribalism in the 70's, 80's and 90's in the corporate world of Lagos and Abuja. An Ijaw/Urhobo/Efik who are not from the 3 major tribes always suffer to get ahead in the corporate world. In Lagos, the Yoruba cabal suffered many of my uncles working in big Nigerian companies- no promotion if you aren't Yoruba. If you are deemed to be better, you get transferred to another branch, so that you wouldnt threaten them.

What about wars and exploitation of Africa/Asia by America and European states in the 60's, 70's and 80's? Where was the morality then? Taking this straight to religion, what about the constant oppression of atheists in those times in America? It is only recent that separation of church and state is fully enforced

Morality is subjective. We can argue that the past is better or the past isnt

And what has this to do with Morality

The entire Human Race at one time or the other have been guilty of war crimes , it does not matter if they are black / white / Asian etc.

Morality is subjective. We can argue that the past is better or the past isnt

1) Are you suggesting the discrimination has nothing to do with morality?

2) Somethings are getting better, somethings are not.
