Akintunde Adegboye, deputy speaker of the Osun state house of assembly, on Monday advised people not to think that legislators in the state are making money like those in the national assembly. Speaking in Osogbo during a lecture to commemorate the 51st birthday of Najeem Salaam, speaker of the assembly, Adegboye said the cash crunch in the state had subjected lawmakers to serious financial hardship. Generator fumes on Saturday killed a man identified by his neighbours as a policeman, and his lover, suspected to be a member of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Anambra State. The name of the policeman could not be ascertained as of press time, but his lover’s name was given as Ifeoma. A former Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation, Mr. Abdulmumin Jibrin, on Sunday said two state governors and three former members of the House of Representatives were blocking him from meeting President Muhammadu Buhari. The Oniba of Iba community, Oba Goriola Oseni, who regained his freedom from kidnappers on Saturday, says he ate concoction prepared with bitter leaves while in captivity. The monarch told our sources in his palace on Sunday that he slept in a shanty built on water during the 21 days he was in captivity. This is just as two of the suspected kidnappers said they collected N15m from the monarch’s family, adding that the money was collected in two batches. Yakubu Dogara, speaker of the house of representatives, says he will not resign his position although that is the ultimate desire of Abdulmumin Jibrin, former chairman of the house appropriations committee. Jibrin is accusing Dogara and three other leaders of the lower chamber of “padding” the 2016 budget to the tune of hundreds of billions of naira.
