Religion / 13 Things No One Ever Told You About The Dreaded Ogboni Fraternity by 91KeepInformed: 5:22pm On Aug 28, 2016
A lot has been said about the Ogbonis but what is fact and what is fiction? I have written this piece on the Ogbonis for your reading pleasure. Have a nice time with it.

1.Like Freemasons and the Illuminati, the Ogboni Fraternity is a secret society.

As a matter of fact, it is one of the foremost secret cults in Africa. Brotherhood is believed to be extremely important in the fraternity and members will always go to any length to protect other members even if that means going against the laid-down conventions of the society. In September 1959, Nigerian journalist, Nelson Ottah, carried out his investigation on the Ogbonis and wrote:
‘A member of the Ogboni Fraternity, for example, is always safe in an office in which a fellow member is in charge. Inefficiency won’t lose him a job. Neither will insurbodination. He is safe in every possible way, as long as the big man at the head of his department is a member of the Ogboni Fraternity too, and takes his membership more seriously than his job. He could even steal from his employers and get away with it, because the police would not be called in without the sanction of the head of his department, with whom he is in cahoots by reason of their membership of the Ogboni Fraternity’.

2.Members of the Ogboni Fraternity are taught certain secret signs which they use to communication or to make their membership clear or send a signal to others.
This is done without a non-member even knowing what is going on. Ottah continued:
‘…even in court I have seen a member of the Ogboni Fraternity, brought up to the dock between two policemen, look around casually and then knock loudly three times on some resonant surface. That is an Ogboni sign. Who was he trying to influence by showing that he was a member. Perhaps he had never met the police prosecutor before, and perhaps he thought that the prosecutor was a member who might help him by presenting his crimes more leniently than otherwise to the court…’

But that is not all to the secret signs and symbolisms of the Ogbonis (Ogbonis means ‘the Elders’). The complementary nature that exists between males and females is always highlighted in the Ogboni society. This is reflected in their unique gesture where the left fist (considered feminine) is placed on top of the right fist (considered masculine) with the thumbs concealed, in front of the stomach.

Politics / My Mandate Was To Deal With Teenage Pregnancies Not Polio - Adewole by 91KeepInformed: 7:17am On Aug 26, 2016
Isaac Adewole, the minister of health, says he was expecting to deal with teenage pregnancies and other challenges, not a resurgence of polio.

The minister said this on Thursday while briefing the senate committee on primary healthcare and communicable diseases on the federal government’s efforts to deal with the disease.

“I wasn’t expecting polio as a challenge, I was expecting teenage pregnancy and other health challenges,” he said.

“The resurgence of polio is an unusual development and a major setback considering the investment of the international community, and the whole world was looking forward to celebrate Nigeria next year.”

Adewole explained that as part of government’s efforts to tackle polio, a loan of $125 million had been obtained from the World Bank.

PUNCH Metro learnt that 45-year-old Idowu, who separated from his wife in 2013, allegedly tortured the girl with an iron in the face and in the private parts on Monday.

Our correspondent gathered that the girl, who stayed with her father on Kayode Toyeso Street, Liasu Road, in the Ikotun area, had been asked by her father to dispose faeces in a potty into the latrine, but she poured it on the floor.

Our correspondent was told that a neighbour, who witnessed the incident, reported at the Ikotun Police Division and the suspect was arrested.

The victim, who is said to be in a nursery school, was reportedly blinded by the burns she suffered on the face, while her private parts were swollen.

A neighbour, identified only as Basirat, said the girl slipped while going to pour the faeces into the latrine.

She said, “The mechanic had a quarrel with his wife and divorced her in 2013 when the girl was just two years old. On that Monday, he asked her to go and dispose of her faeces in a potty in a latrine at the backyard of the house. But the area was slippery and the girl fell, splashing the faeces on the floor.

Politics / READ Why Soludo Believes Buhari's Corruption Fight Is A Goose Chase by 91KeepInformed: 6:58am On Aug 26, 2016
Charles Soludo, former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), says the Muhammadu Buhari administration is only fighting the symptoms of corruption.

Soludo, who spoke at the fourth “Progressive Governance Lecture Series” in Kaduna on Thursday, said for the current war against corruption to be successful and enduring, it must be tackled from the systemic level rather than just dealing with the symptoms.

He added that the Nigerian economy is stuck on a slippery muddy length and would need to be totally reset.

Speaking at the lecture, which was organised by the 23 governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Soludo said the fight against corruption should be targeted at fixing the system.

“I feel we are fighting corruption at the symptomatic manifestation level, at the transaction level. For the fight against corruption to become enduring and to achieve a purpose, we need to get to the systemic level,” he said.

“The way we are going about it is fantastic. You finish, you close here, the other place is leaking. The system, as currently structured, you can only fight the symptoms.”

Politics / Dont End Up Like Jonathan, Sanusi Warns Buhari by 91KeepInformed: 7:26am On Aug 25, 2016
The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Mohammadu Sanusi, says the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration may end up like the immediate past President Jonathan’s administration if it fails to retrace its steps on some policies.

Buhari had defeated Jonathan at the 2015 presidential poll in what was described as a total rejection of the Jonathan-led administration by Nigerians.

Sanusi, who was the chairman of the 15th meeting of the Joint Planning Board and National Council on Development Planning in Kano State on Wednesday, argued that the failure of the Buhari-led government to create employment opportunities for “the over 80 million youths in the country,” made terrorism attractive to the unemployed.

The session was organised by the Kano State Government and the Federal Ministry of Budget and Planning.

The monarch, who titled his speech, ‘‘Nigeria in search of new growth model,’’ said some policies of the government were bad for the economy, adding that Buhari must retrace his steps.

The Jamaican sprinter, who turned 30 on Sunday, was also pictured partying until the early hours of the morning at All In, a club in the Barra de Tijuca suburb of Rio.

Our source has reached out to Bolt's agents for comment.

It was learnt that while the police arrested the two suspects, other members of the gang fled.

Religion / Fake Miracle Syndicate Arrested In Enugu, Says Pastor Hired Them by 91KeepInformed: 6:54am On Aug 22, 2016
Ihuoma Chiedozie, Enugu

Members of a syndicate, which specialised in confirming fake prophecies for pastors, have been arrested by the police in Enugu State.

Our correspondent gathered that the group also faked healings for some men of God, who contracted and paid them for their services.

The suspected fraudsters were identified as Obi Ejike from Ubaho Okija in Anambra State; Mary Kuku from Ijebu Ode, Ogun State; Joy Oluwakemi from Ojo, Lagos State; Nwosu Chizoba from Umunze, Anambra State; and Peter Uchechi from Ebonyi State.

They were reportedly apprehended while on their way to Abakiliki, Ebonyi State, where they were contracted to stage phoney miracles and healings for an unnamed pastor in the state.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the suspects were apprehended on Friday during an argument while waiting to board a vehicle at Holy Ghost Park, Enugu.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Enugu State Police Command, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the development on Sunday, explained that the argument among the fraudsters drew the attention of some policemen within the premises of the park, who interrogated them.

Amaraizu said two members of the syndicate, Ejike and Oluwakemi, opened up on the group’s activities.

Revelations made by the duo led to the arrest of other members of the group at P and T bus stop, Enugu, on Saturday, where they had assembled to board a bus to Abakiliki, the venue of a church service.

A member of the group, Uchechi, said they were usually recruited in large numbers and kept in a house from where they would shuttle to confirm fake prophecies and stage-manage miracles for pastors.

Uchechi said they were usually paid through a coordinator, who acted as a middleman between the syndicate and the pastors.

Upon their arrival in the church, a man, who works for the pastor, would instruct the syndicate on the nature of the assignment.

Uchechi explained that before the scheduled church service, they would list their names and the fake ailments they had, which would be given to the pastor while ministering to the congregation.

During the ‘prophetic hour’ session of the service, members of the syndicate, who were already known to the pastor, would come out when people who had problems were summoned to the altar.

Subsequently, members of the syndicate would announce before the congregation that they had received healing following the pastor’s ministrations.

In other cases, according to Uchechi, members of the syndicate would come out to ‘confirm’ a prophecy, which would be made by the pastor in the course of the service, based on the information they provided before the session.

She added that the members of their group usually fell under the ‘influence’ of the pastor’s anointing, during worship sessions.

“Some pastors use us to grow their churches and ministries and we are paid later through our coordinator, depending on our roles,” Uchechi said.

Ejike, who explained that he worked with the coordinator, admitted that he was in charge of the Abakiliki job, which the group was going for when they were apprehended.

He said he decided to go into the fake prophecy business after his business collapsed in Lagos.

Ejike added that he was mostly involved in the recruitment of personnel for various assignments.

Another member of the group, Chizoba, said she started the ‘business’ in Abuja, after finding it difficult to fend for her baby, who she had out of wedlock.

According to her, she eventually relocated to Onitsha, Anambra State, to team up with the syndicate.

Two other members of the syndicate, Oluwakemi and Kuku, claimed to be widows with four children each, adding that hardship pushed them into the crime.

The police spokesperson, Amaraizu, said investigations were ongoing.

Politics / We Value The Chibok Girls More Than Our Oil Facilities- Kachikwu by 91KeepInformed: 8:04am On Aug 16, 2016
Ibe Kachikwu, minister of state for petroleum, says the recovery of over 200 missing school girls from Government Secondary School, Chibok, is more important than protection of oil facilities in the Niger Delta.
Speaking to Richard Quest on CNN’s Quest Means Business on Monday night, Kachikwu said it is not true that the government is paying more attention to protecting oil facilities than to recovering the girls.

A critic of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, who was aired on the show said the military was leaving the northeast for the Niger Delta to guide pipelines, adding that this means “the oil is better than the human”.

Kachikwu responded, saying; “not quite so, at all. On the contrary, since President Muhammadu Buhari resumed, I think his first steps were targeted at the northeast and the Chibok girls”.

“If you remember, most of his first state visits were to neighbouring countries, trying to gather alignment among neighbouring countries military forces in fighting this issue, and the military has been engaged in that territory.

“One of the crisis the president had to inherit, was the fact that once he came in, he found that monies that were allocated to the military to be able to deal with these issues, were largely diverted, and he spent a lot of time trying to find funds.

“He first had to deal with that problem, but once he dealt with that, the army has got more brisk in its business, however, we haven’t found the girls and its sorrowful for every Nigerian who thinks about it.

Sports / 10 Facts You Didn’t Know About “KING” Usain Bolt, The World’s Fastest Man by 91KeepInformed: 7:28am On Aug 16, 2016
Usain Bolt is a legendary figure. Although rumours abound of chicken nugget-fuelled world records, and covertly-signed contracts to play for Manchester United once he hangs up his track spikes.

He is, without a doubt, one of the greatest athletes in the world right now, and will go down in history for his achievements:

1. It all began with a bet over a free lunch.

When Bolt was just twelve years old, local priest Reverend Nugent overheard the youngster bickering with his close friend, Ricardo Gedes, over who was the quickest runner. Nugent decided to up the stakes in a bid to persuade the would-be sprinters to commit to the contest: free lunch to the winner. The pair were sold, and Usain Bolt tore to victory. As the priest departed and Bolt tucked into his spoils, legend has it that Nugent told the young Jamaican: ‘If you can beat Ricardo, you can beat anyone’. A star was born.

2. He’s quite the philanthropist.

In 2009, Bolt paid just over £10,000 to formally adopt an abandoned cheetah cub – named Lightning Bolt – in Nairobi, and has since paid £2,300 a year to cover its upkeep at the orphanage. His support of Kenya’s wildlife conservation efforts are surpassed by his charitable work closer to home: the Usain Bolt Foundation works to benefit local youngsters, through sporting provisions, improving community structures, and funding talented Jamaicans to excel in

Politics / Oba Akiolu To Buhari: You Are Not A Military Man Anymore by 91KeepInformed: 7:01am On Aug 16, 2016
The Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwanu Akiolu, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to change his leadership style, saying the president should recognise that he is not a military ruler.

The traditional ruler who said this while making a speech at the opening of SunTrust Bank Limited in Lagos MONday, also urged the president to always listen to advice on how best to govern the country.

Akiolu also faulted the measures being adopted by the federal government in tackling the decay caused by the immediate past government, stressing that all that happened in the past government were not caused by former president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.

“All of us just have to support the president and I advise him to know that he is no more a military man. I am not afraid to say that. On the measures they are taking to tackle the rot of the past, honestly, whether they like it or not, it was not totally the fault of Jonathan.

“I don’t hide the fact that he (Jonathan) is my personal friend. All that happened was not totally his fault. But it is not too late to make amend. With Prof. Yemi Osinbajo as head of economic team, with people like Mrs. Nike Akande as the President of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry and others, they (the federal government) should listen to advice from people in commercial sector of the economy,” he added.

The directive, which came in a letter through the Banking Supervision Department of the CBN to all the 19 commercial banks in the country about four weeks ago, gave bank officials only one week to complete the assets declaration process, sources close to the DMBs said.

Manchester United have completed the world-record £100million signing of Paul Pogba.
The world’s most in-demand midfield talent arrives from Juventus, rejoining the club that he left for next to nothing in 2012.

Pogba, 23, is expected to wear the No 6 shirt and has signed a bumper £290,000-per-week, five-year contract to work under Jose Mourinho. There is also the option to extend for a further year.

1. He has a ‘super agent’

Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola also manages the affairs of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Mario Balotelli.

Former Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson wrote that his relationship with Raiola was like ‘oil and water’ and claimed the agent’s influence was a factor behind Pogba’s departure in 2012.
